PROTAGONIST: Mickey Haller, defense attorney
SETTING: Los Angeles
SERIES: #5 of 5
RATING: 4.0
WHY: Several years ago, defense attorney Mickey Haller made a connection with prostitute "Gloria Dayton", felt he made a positive difference in her life. Now she's been murdered, and he finds that he has been deluding himself about the success story. He's taken on the defense of her supposed murderer, her pimp Andre La Cosse. A complicated yet engrossing plot involves cartel boss Hector Moya, serving life due to being set up by Gloria; a rogue DEA agent, and a retired cop. The team that supports Haller is intriguing as well. I did find that some of the stuff in Haller's personal life got in the way of the narrative.

The Lincoln Lawyer book series is superb. The movie with Matthew McConaughey is great as Mickey but the book series is much better.

Just to read something easy. Micky got an innocent digital pimp off who was framed in a murder of a prostitute that Micky was previously defending and had tried to save. Micky learns that he was manipulated by the prostitute, who continued in the business w/o Mickey knowing, and in the process he falls in love with another prostitute who did quit. The pimp was set up by a rogue DEA agent whom Micky exposes in the process. Not my style, but enterraining.

Well written suspense novel. Some mystery involved, but the attraction is more the characters and the plot. The story unfolds with colorful characters populating the case that the Lincoln Lawyer is working on. The ending - not to give anything away - leaves a lot of loose ends, like real life.

Excellent, as always. I actually felt sorry for a few of the bad guys in this one. I hope there is more of Mickey Haller to come. I have grown quite fond of the character.

This is a very good addition to the Lincoln lawyer series. I think this might just be the best in the series that I have read to date. This is a 4 Ace book.

Mickey Haller 's new client Andre LaCosse is an online pimp accused of murdering a prostitute. Mickey realises the dead woman is actually one of his former clients, Gloria Dayton, that he represented on a drug charge eight years before. He also learns that she didn't make the fresh start he thought she did eight years earlier. As Mickey investigates, he learns Gloria may well have helped set up the cartel member at the behest of a DEA agent. The more he learns, the more he comes to believe Gloria's death is related to her DEA involvement. Following this line of inquiry Mickey is soon harassed, threatened, and attacked. The La Cosse case goes to trial and Connelly does an excellent job detailing what goes on there and Mickey's thought process/rationale for doing what he does. Connelly's books are compelling, well-written, always with interesting characters and a satisfying conclusion. I really enjoyed this book, it was a good read.

Another excellent book by Michael Connelly - - The protagonist is Mickey Haller - he was the subject in the Lincoln Lawyer book and movie. Connelly makes a reference to the movie in this book and its a pretty funny reference. Like the Lincoln Lawyer, this book delves deeply into how a court room works - the gritty details behind the relationships between the judge, the prosecution, the defense team and the accused. Its a fascinating look at how our legal system works. The case is a murder case but its not straight forward - it brings in many different facets of the case and many different characters. Haller is a whiz at finding loopholes and he's not afraid to put them to maximum use for his client. Connelly writes in short, concise sentences - you will feel a part of the action - a super read!

Love Mickey Haller! This is among the best that Connelly's yet written. Must read for all fans. I love the Bosch series, but this is as taut of a thriller as Connelly's yet written-despite that minor quibble.

Michael Connelly is by far the best author of portraying how things really happen in a courtroom. Of course, there are some cases that are a little outlandish, but that's all part of the imagination! All of the Lincoln Lawyer books and Harry Bosch series books are worth your time!

Well written, nicely paced. No gratuitous sex, no international plots, thank you. Just a good old fashioned mystery.
