Lexy Baker: Books 1-4

Rate this book
This set includes the first 4 books in the Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery Series:

Killer Cupcakes

Lexy Baker has finally opened her dream bakery, gotten rid of her cheating boyfriend and settled into her grandmothers house with her perky dog Sprinkles at her side. Things are going great … until her ex boyfriend is found poisoned with cupcakes from her bakery.

Suddenly Lexy finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation headed up by her hunky neighbor detective Jack Perillo who figures her for the killer. Lexy takes it upon herself to find the real killer aided by a gang of iPad toting, would-be detective grandmothers.

As things heat up between Lexy and the hunky detective, the real killer closes in and there's only one question to be answered -- will Lexy get her man?

Dying For Danish

When Lexy Baker stumbles over the body of her high paying catering client, she finds herself in a race against time to find the killer. Aided by four iPad toting amateur detective grandma's, her best friend and her little dog Sprinkles, Lexy finds the suspect list growing at every turn.

To make matters worse, the investigation is headed up by her hunky neighbor Detective Jack Perillo who she had been hot and heavy with - until he mysteriously stopped calling her several weeks earlier. Add in a handsome rich suspect, an angry gold digger ex-girlfriend and a suspicious son and you'll see that Lexy has her work cut out for her.

Murder, Money and Marzipan

Lexy's off to Las Vegas to compete in the prestigious Bakery Battles where, you guess it, she stumbles over another body. But not just any body. Contest judge Amanda Scott Saunders has been strangled with Lexy's apron. The local police soon discover Lexy had means, motive and opportunity and Lexy must enlist the aid of her grandmother to help clear her name.

3 Bodies and A Biscotti

The bodies are piling up at the Brook Ridge Falls Retirement Center. Healthy people are dropping like flies. And yet no one believes a murderer is on the loose… except for Lexy Baker and the troupe of iPad-toting grandmothers who live at the center.

When Lexy’s detective boyfriend, Jack, refuses to believe that foul play is involved, Lexy has no choice but to find the killer on her own. Along with Nans and her gang of iPad-toting, mystery-solving grandmas, they use everything from hypnosis to high-tech gadgets to track down the killer.

Pretty fast read

These books quickly draw you into the mystery and leaves you trying to figure out the murderer along with the characters. A good series to read. One can add this to their food murder mystery series!

I love these cozy mystery books. This was a 4 story book. Every one of them was good. I love clean mysteries. Killer cupcakes, Dying for Danish, Murder, Money, and Marzipan and 3 Bodies and a
biscotti. Lexy owns a bakery and her Nans (her name for her grandmother) lives in a Retirement Community. Her Nans has three friends and they have formed the The Ladies Detective Club. they helped the Police department once in awhile, in solving crimes. Lexy is always finding bodies and them being questioned by the police. Her antics and her Nans group's antics make for some good reading. I will be looking for more books by Leighann Dobs.

Great beach books

The word "cozy" is perfect for these mysteries. A quick read, no grisly murder scene, (one bloody one but not graphic), great characters and each book could stand alone but so much nicer to have a continuity of the stories and their connections. Some humor and lite romance. Enjoy this and bonus recipes. Looking forward to more in the series but other books by the author plus a cookbook...Can't go wrong

I read the first two books of this boxed set. I stopped after I started the third book because I still wasn't really into the series. Forcing myself to finish the set isn't going to change my opinion, so I decided to quit while I was ahead. I do understand why other people love the series. It's light, but I think it's TOO light for me. It doesn't intrigue me enough to keep going.

Great read

I love these books. They are short and sweet. Reminiscent of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series, they would be perfect series for young girls to read.

Kindle Unlimited, Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles.

The Notch Cozy Mystery Series {5 out as of this writing} and the Blackbore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are not on Kindle Unlimited which as said before about 1 & 7 {the only ones given free, sure would not have bought them} and ditto for Ghostly Paws which is 1 of 5 at this time but did get others free over time.

While some of her other books are Kindle Unlimited none of the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are which doesn't matter to me as read #1 and #7 and was way underwhelmed. Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles. By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.

Yet another goodreads won't hide it don't want to see the badly proofed badly plotted poor excuse for bad soft core porn crap. The 'historical' ones are like that and so are the some of the non cozy mysteries and some of the sorta but not really mysteries because can't write, etc ad nauseum. The most any of them got was 2 changed to 1 for crap cozy, some get a 1 which means basically crappy soft porn 'romance' etc.

3 in Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series so far which are on kindle unlimited, 3 in the Moosamuck Island Mysteries , 5 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mysteries so far {not ku}, Blackmore Sisters has 7 {not ku}, Hazel Martin Mysteries only has 1 so far, Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery series 12 so far is on ku. Others.including Scandals and Spies Book series so far 4 which are basically romance soft core porn dreck but hey you can get them on ku. Witches of Hawthorne Grove 1 so far,Cevonne Bride of Oklahoma, Unexpected Series 4 so far ku.

The Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery Series By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.

Copy/paste fill in the blank seems to be pretty much what she is doing in her books, which wouldn't be half as bad if the plots and ploys and actions were believable at all.Just change the name for a book and maybe change the series list under, and you are right back to copy paste same old same old.

NOTE: I specifically mentioned certain of the 'books'/series were achieving soft core crap status, and specifically said which ones those were, reference AGAIN the above quoted review, and did not specifically mention the blackmore ones as that, BUT and had not mentioned that had went back and rated all no talent no plot cardboard charactered 'stories' listed above as 1 as well. I will change the original review to reflect that, but it is still a 1, and MY review of the crap stands.

Fabulous

Brook Ridge Falls, a quaint town in New England.

Author Leighann Dobbs has created a brilliant masterpiece with this series. I have added another author to my evergrowing list of the favorite ones.

This series is all about a cute and sweet baker, Lexy Baker who has opened her own bakery, ' The Cups and Cakes' with the help of her best friend, Cassie. Her grandma has left her house to Lexy and moved on to Brook Ridge Retirement Community Center to join her friends, Ida, Ruth, and Helen. They might be in their seventies but still are a force to reckon with. These ladies have formed a ' Ladies Detective Club' to solve mysteries without leaving their residence and have surprisingly caught on to the latest technology. Each of them use an IPad and help Lexy to solve cases. This fabulous series also includes a cute canine called Sprinkles. Of course, she is Lexy's pet. It's absolutely a delightful read in spite of murders being involved.

I don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading. I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you.
My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it.
If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I give
If the storyline or plot is poor or contains too many errors, the characters are too weak, the ending lacking something, then the less stars I give.
Simple, uncomplicated and to the point without giving anything away.
Some of the books I read have been given to me by the author as a pre-release copy and this does not bias my reviews in any way

I liked the Blackmoore sisters books by Leighann Dobbs and thought her Lexi Baker series would be similar. I was wrong. Lexy Baker is not a character that could be believable as a real person. I have no idea how old she is. She owns a bakery, yet doesn't spend much time there baking. She wears high-end, pricey stilettos all the time like she's Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City), no matter where she is or what she is doing. One, it's just not practical and two, where did she get the money to spend on Blahniks and Louboutins? Just for the fact that Lexy wore this type of shoe made me not like her. She's not a relateable character and I didn't care what happened to her.
I did get these books for free to download onto my kindle. I read them just to say I finished reading them.

I picked up this set up for free a while back and just got around to reading it. I only made it through the first two stories and don’t want to waste my time with the next two. The stories remind me of a cheesy hallmark movie (and not one of the better ones), unbelievable and predictable. In the second book, she gives some Texans ridiculous accents, which is so minor to the story but annoyed me anyway. She talks about flipping phones closed, but the grandmas have iPads. In one spot Lexy is sitting at a table with her 4 best friends, but only 3 other people are there. I guess you can be your own best friend? The stories are very light and cutsie, so if you like that, this book collection is right up your alley. Not for me though.

Quick bitesize reads

I've been reviewing each of the four books as I finished each.
Book 4 biscotte and 3 murders took me longer then the previous 3 but I enjoyed it as much as the rest the only thing is I think I got burnt out by how similar all of them were.
Saying that given some time I'd happily read the rest of this series as they are quick easy going light hearted "cosy" books I love all the main characters and the trouble they get into. Yes the endings may be predictable but who can turn down lighthearted fun in between the thrills and spills

I finished book 1, and I spent more time writing notes about what the author is getting wrong than time actually reading the book. No real detective would leave a "wake" for the murder victim to invite the main suspect of the investigation to dinner then kiss her passionately in the parking lot. He would be fired and brought up on charges. I read the second book hoping it would show signs of improvement. It didn't. Lexy was still an immature dingbat. Since it's a 4 book set, and I'll only get credit for reading one book, I didn't bother with the remaining two.

Very light reading - I think they would be very short as individual books - but fun. I like the way that the murders Lexy keeps getting caught up in are all part of her very normal life as a baker/confectioner with friends and family.

I particularly love her grandmother and her friends, keeping themselves amused, and mentally fit, by trying to solve murder cases with the help of their ipads and tech gadgetry.

Very Relaxing Mystery

I been reading each book in order and have come to know Lexy, Jack, Nans, etc. I read these mysteries in between nail-biting thrillers. These help me to relax and stay calm during my hectic day. I enjoy these, but I have yet to guess who did it, before it’s actually revealed and I’m usually really good at figuring out whodunit! These cozy mysteries definately keep my attention.

its the end of the month and i'm out of hoopla borrows, so i grabbed a box set to hopefully last til i can get the next ones on my wish list. They're quick reads and i'll probably keep up with the series. Not the best, i think it could use a better editor. the name of the actual love interest is Jack, the one who catches the eye to imply competition is Jake.

The complete fascination of the older ladies using an ipad is overdone and gets tiresome

This had so much promise but failed to deliver. Initially I liked the character Lexy but she was too annoying and immature. A baker in designer stilettos? Really? By the third book ( all really just longish stories) I wanted to slap her. She had no respect for her boyfriend or herself really. Won't be reading anymore, although the iPad totting grannies were fun.

EACH ONE BETTER THAN THE LAST!

It took getting through the first book before I started liking the characters! By the 4th book, I felt like they were friends instead of just characters in a book! Lots of fun & always an interesting murder! Lexy gets help from her Nans & 3 of the other ladies at the Assisted Living Center to help solve the murders!

Not at all what I expected. I read all 4 books in the set, and have no desire to read any of the rest. It felt like the characters lacked depth. The story was predictable, and there was really no suspense.
In this group - which was a quick read - we have two proposals but no relationship development between the people that got engaged.
I wanted the gang of old ladies to be more developed and involved. They were just flat, no back stories.
Just meh.

She did it again

Another Lexy Baker mystery. I love these books very fun and very easy-to-read. Jack has forbidden Lexy to get involved in crime solving and she's torn between helping "the girls" and not upsetting Jack.

Cute for a short read

I like that our main character is stubborn and does what she thinks is right. She has some creative sleuthing skills that makes for an entertaining read. I'd like to continue the book series.

Sweets and Murder

These books are entertaining. The 4 elderly detectives prove that older people can be lively and up to date with computers, tablets, etc. The baked goods made me want to taste them.

another mystery series that is fun to listen to....Lexy and her detective grandmothers work to solve murders, sometimes with the help of Jack and sometimes against his better judgement. As the series develops so does the romance between Lexy and Jack ,the local detective.
