John Randolph Smith is second-in-command of a whaling ship that sets sail from Nantucket Island in 1820. When the ship sinks, killing its captain, Smith takes charge of the stranded crew, finding refuge on a deserted island. On one side of the island, the men discover a hellish jungle, inhabited by a murderous and unseen enemy bent on killing the crew. The other side contains remnants of an earthly paradise, a throwback to the destroyed city of Atlantis – and its last survivors.
Smith’s quest to save his men takes him deep into the dark side of men’s souls. “Even though the idea of eating a fellow human being made me nearly gag at first, “ he writes, “a day later I found myself dreaming what it would be like to consume the young lad’s meat.” A tale of faith woven with supernatural elements into a survival-of-the-fittest story, “Silverback Island” is a white-knuckled ride – a chilling science-fiction novel where only the strong survive.

I was born in Seattle Washington. I have lived in Washington my entire life. I currently am a long time resident of Lake Stevens Washington. I graduated for Shorecrest high school. I have been happily married for more than 23 years, to my wife Jennifer, we have two lovely children, one adult daughter is a fantastic person, and a 12 year old son. He's autistic, and is involved with the Special Olympics. Such a wonder full program. He participates in severally different sports, where he had taken gold, silver, and bronze in state.

I grew up in the construction field, both in residential and commercial construction as a career for more than 22 years. I immensely enjoy building things with my hands.
So when I started writing it was nothing more than a hobby in 2004. It started when I had a strange dream, and jotted an outline of it the very next morning. And the outline slowly developed into a story, one page turned into several. Somewhere along the way I discovered that I actually loved it, and the more that I began to write the more I developed a passion for it. And slowly I started developing my own writing style. I sort of think mine as a writing style across between “Michael Critchen” and “Jack London,” I like to tell a story, an interesting one at that, I like all my stories to be fresh, and exciting. I try to keep the readers wrapping into the story, as much as I can all the way thru. Character that continue to grow, and change all the way thru to the end of the book. Characters that challenge themselves. I also like to weave in messages into my stories. And most importantly I write in unpredictable endings. I also like to cover a wide-range of subjects, for my story lines, this gets me out of my own comfort level, and so challenges myself. The readers benefit by this. I think this helps make for a better storyline in the long run.

I published my first book in April of 2007. But after being seriously injured in a horrible auto accident I then started taking writing much more seriously. As a result the books kept on coming. As to date I have published six separate books, available in both paperback and e-format. I am currently wrapping up my tenth exciting novel due out in just a couple of months, which is a sequel to my best seller, "Alone in the wood.” I have also written my first movie script based upon my novel, “Attila’s Lost Gold.”

After I was hurt I had to try and reinvent myself, some I took up writing a whole lot more, as well as going out walking six days a week on a nature trail near my house. I enjoy doing things around the house, like gardening, and spending time with my family, who mean the world to me. As well as being involved with the Special Olympics. I love to travel; my favorite place to go is Hawaii, and Disneyland! My favorite food is Chinese. I love home cooking, and sweets. So it was a good thing I married such a fantastic cook.

I started writing when I realized I had such a vivid imagination, the only reason I hadn't start writing before 2004 was I was, and still am so horrible with spelling and grammar. One day I just stop letting that be an excuse not to. I learned I have a whole lot of stories still inside my head, just waiting to come out. I have a whole life-time of them, and to my surprise I discovered somewhere in all this putting words to paper, I absolutely came love to write. I actually credit writing for getting me through some pretty dark times after my accident! I write because I love to write, not because I have to. The best part about writing is sharing my stories with others, which gives me the greatest satisfaction. I do infuse things that have happened to me throughout my life, or people that I met being made into characters in one of my books. I have a saying," Be careful you just might end up in one of my books!"
