From fabulous beaches, historic cities, and dynamite cuisine to corrupt politicians, elite universities, and a one-of-a-kind accent, this multifaceted guidebook explores the nation’s smallest Rhode Island. Well-known natives weigh in, including broadcast journalist Jim Taricani, author Mark Patinkin, folklorist Michael Bell, and satirist Charlie Hall. Profiles of Buddy Cianci, H. P. Lovecraft, and the Farrelly brothers enhance this informative resource, as do discussions of Narragansett Bay, the American Industrial Revolution, and the New England mob. Conjuring admiration for Rhode Island, this guide is both practical and informative.
I feel a bit silly for giving this slim travel guide four stars, but it really was a very solid primer on the Ocean State. Better written and wittier than it had any right to be!
