A Taste of Tomorrow - The Dystopian Boxed set includes 11 books from some of the biggest names in dystopian literature in a single collection. Each story contains a brand new foreword by its author.
I'm the author of WOOL, a top 5 science fiction book on Amazon. I also wrote the Molly Fyde saga, a tale of a teenager from the 25th century who is repeatedly told that girls can't do certain things -- and then does them anyway.
A theme in my books is the celebration of overcoming odds and of not allowing the cruelty of the universe to change who you are in the process. Most of them are classified as science fiction, since they often take place in the future, but if you love great stories and memorable characters, you'll dig what you find here. I promise.
When did the definition of "Dystopian" change to "Zombie"?
I have enjoyed the several thousand pages I have read so far, for if no other reason than the epic size and interesting characters. That said, where is my dystopian society? Zombies may be a fantasized future, but you missed the point. Give me a handmaid burning a book in 1984 at an animal farm and then we can talk. The stories beyond where I have read may be great, I may never know.
This is truly a mammoth taster but very frustrating bits of stories nothing complete. Two of the stories I liked but they then abruptly stopped leaving the rest unfinished and unread as I do not need more frustrating glimpses. My fault for not reading the Amazon description properly so if you like some extended tasters of stories it's good value, if you want to read an example of an authors work I suggest you stick to the Look Inside feature
meh... I bought this after I read Sand (hugh howey) because Amazon "recommended" it. I wasn't really impressed w/ any of the stories. usually w/ sets like this there's at least one I really like... but to be honest I read this 2 weeks ago and can't think of one that stood out as awesome/great/good enough to talk about...
This has to be the highest entertainment value anyone could ever get out of a dollar. It certainly is the longest lasting, best $1.00 I've spent. The book went so far beyond my expectations, it has to be one of the most compilation useful I've ever read (though I haven't read very many). I believe this mostly because it isn't made up of just stand alone stories. Many are actually the first book in a series. A number of these "stories" got me so hooked I had to pause my progress through it to read the rest of the series. A few of which turned out to be extraordinarily entertaining for me and I expect will remain on my list of favorites for a long time. With all the breaks I ended up taking, it took me about 8 months before I finally finish all the stories.
Yesterday's Gone was the first one I had to stop for. Gameland was my favorite and is one of the best series I've read. The Tube Riders is almost tied with Gameland. Artificial Evil would complete the list of top three stories.
This book was a really eye opener into the post apocalyptic genre for me. The only other book in the genre I read before this was the "Wool" series (the best of them all). This review is about a year late and pretty much all I've been reading is more post apocalyptic and dystopian future books. Definitely the best dollar I've spent.
Eleven books, by 12 authors, almost 1,000 words in a specially priced box set. Not a bum in the bunch. All good, some great, one I had started reading some time ago, but didn't get to finish, now done. Very enjoyable read
I'd already read Sand and Yesterday's Gone. Only two others stood out, imo. Contamination Zero was a fun, quick read. A zombie book, which I'm not usually into. I enjoyed it enough that I went out and bought the rest of the series on amazon. The Man Who Ended the World was also a fun read. A different take on the end times that I really enjoyed...only because I'm a selfish bastard too. Overall a great collection of dystopian writings by some great authors. At only $2.99, it's well worth picking up because I'm sure anyone that enjoys this genre will find one or two of the works worth the price.
This was a real page turner for me. The writing was clean and engaging. Good read if you're into end of the world scenarios. I liked the multiple story lines going on. But I was so bummed when I got to the end and there was no resolve. It continues on in the next book series. I would have liked some resolve because I have so many books on my wishlist that I'm not sure when I'll get to the next part.
Disappointed. Sand by Howey is awesome, but I'd already read that. Most of the stories have original ideas and neat settings, but I couldn't get past mediocre writing, cliches and indulgent jargon. After reading the tenth info dump in a single book, I usually give up. I only finished a couple: Tube Riders and Artificial Evil. Still 3 books for 99c is good value. I was just expecting more.
Some of these stories are great; TubeRiders, Sand, *Yesterday’s Gone: Season One * (really enjoyed this and am reading the second season). Others were ok, fun reads. I'm glad that I read the book, it was an easy read for the most part and I looked forward to picking it back up when I had to leave it, work always gets in the way of reading time. I may quit. ;-)
I enjoyed this set for the most part, having started it based on reading Hugh Howey's books. One that stood out: Jason Gurley's 'The Man Who Ended The World'. It's not often I write to an author, but this time I did, and was pleased to not only hear back, but get a signed copy of his book, along with another to read. Keep them coming, Jason!
2 solid diversions out of 11. Totally worth $.99. I just didn't connect with the majority of these. 5 stars for Hugh Howey of course. And I've devoured the subsequent Yesterday's Gone series as a result of this.
This Will take a while to finish because you will want to see other works by these authors. I ended up reading several tho find out what happens next. Several of these are authors I have read before. All top notch enjoyment.
Frustrating more than anything... The stories stop short and do not come to an resolution... Really just a taster, not a collection of complete stories
