Leigh Evans’s perception of reality is about to be shifted.
On the night of her high school graduation, Leigh stumbles onto a secret hiding in her sleepy rural town. What appears to be a case of serial abduction and murder is something darker, more sinister.
Enter Peter and Mollie Monroe, twins trained to hunt down and destroy the things that give people a reason to be afraid of the dark.
When the lives of these three intersect, nothing will ever be the same.
Leigh is thrust into a world she never knew existed, faced with dark creatures and secrets about her own past.
Episode 1 is the first installment of the SHIFTED series. Written as part of J.A. Konrath's 8-Hour eBook Challenge, this episode is approximately 10,000 words.
Episode 2 is scheduled for release on January 14, 2014, with additional episodes available every two weeks after that.
Leigh Evans learns that perception of reality is not always the truth. On the night of her graduation, she stumbles upon a dark secret that is much more horrific than she could ever imagine. Peter and Mollie Monroe are trained to hunt down and destroy all the things that go bump in the night. After Leigh’s encounter she can’t possibly continue her normal life so she begs Peter to come along and things will never be the same!
These short episodes, despite their length, have great detail that keep you interested and wanting for more. Reading all four together is like reading one full book. There is enough detail to paint the picture but nothing too graphic, which I prefer. It’s a pretty easy read, but when I got to the end I was wanting more!
There’s not a lot of budding romance like other authors try to shove into these types of books, but just enough intrigue to see if something is cooking for future episodes. Overall, I say this is a pretty good mini series and great for a casual light reading adventure. I look forward to the others and plan to keep reading them!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Shifted features two siblings who track the supernatural and fight it, to protect teh normals. Remind you of anything? Yeah... substantial similarities to Supernatural*, but nevertheless an interesting start to a series serial. I'm going to try and not complain about how I can't afford/justify paying 80p for each short episode in a serial**, when I can buy a secondhand paperback for as little as 59p.
*You know - that TV series that's been running for a decade; long enough that every single person who's even vaguely interested in the supernatural has seen at least an episode or two. **£2.41 for the first four episodes might not sound too bad, until you consider that the first one is free anyway. But hey, not everyone is as broke as me.
I got this because it was free, and I read it in an hour. It was entertaining but not particularly suspenseful. The story has the potential to become really interesting if the characters are fleshed out and the world building is expanded. There wasn't much that could be done within these fifty pages, but it could be a prelude to a good story.
Shifted, It is a free book on amazon that looked good. It reminded me of the show supernatural. But the book was just so-so, There was no real building of the characters and I just could not get into it.
Just okay. I didn't really find anything special about the story. It was a short installment. Hopefully book 2 has more substance. Three glittery stars.
