Trauma changes a person. When I met the devil at eight years old, it changed the course of my life. Lost and alone, anger controlled my every thought. Happiness was out of reach until the day I found my calling.
At sixteen years old, they never saw me coming. As an adult, I’m the Reaper they fear. Seeking vengeance for all the victims who were silenced.
Darkness ruled my world until I laid eyes on her. A sliver of light trickled into my life, and I would do anything to hold onto it. I stole her heart. I own her soul. She’s my wife. The one person I’d give my life to protect at any cost. She thinks she knows all my secrets.
The man she loves is a serial killer and she doesn’t have a clue. Or does she? It seems she has a secret of her own. When lies are exposed and the truth is revealed, our lives will change forever.
Reaper is a dark love story. It contains darker content and may be triggering to readers. Content and Trigger Warnings are listed at the beginning of the book. J. S. Cannon is a self-published Indie Author with a passion for writing dark romance with strong female characters and obsessive male leads. Her writing journey began with sweet and spicy novellas but evolved into a love of creating stories with morally gray characters and witty banter. Whether you’re looking for a book with darker elements, or a tale with gore and torture, she offers something for every spicy reader.
J. S. Cannon lives with her husband, a Great Pyrenees, a Boxador, and a Snowshoe Siamese cat, all adding warmth, chaos, and laughter to her everyday life. She enjoys reading all genres of romance, her favorites being dark, fantasy, and horror. Reading and writing are her two favorite hobbies, as well as gaming and spending time with her family.
I was torn between 3.5 and 4 stars, but the quality of the writing put it over the top. This is similar to a Natural Born Killers type of plot, with our leads, Paige and Logan, avenging their past traumas by killing people they deem dangerous and obsolete, of sorts. They begin a very passionate love affair as they continue their path of destruction, until things take a turn for the worse. The characters are great and the author did a phenomenal job showcasing the love and affection they had for one another. Even with the overabundance of sexual situations, it all built up to a really strange, but somehow endearing, love story. After all, they are just two damaged people trying to make the world a better place through an unorthodox means. And the ending was exactly what it needed to be, too. The story had a good pace and, again, the writing was the star throughout. Now my biggest critiques focus on how one note this was written. It basically alternated between rough sex and killings for the entirety of the story, which made it a bit hard to stay focused. I wish there was something else to break up the monotony, even just a minor side character that had a narrative every few chapters. I also wanted more from the both Paige and Logan to really give us a deeper understanding of their characters, beyond the sex, which could have benefitted from being tapered quite a bit. There was a bit of an information dump on Logan in the beginning, too, which may have been better divulged gradually throughout, as his bond with Paige evolved. And the same could be said for her, too. Again, all of that would have kept the flow a little easier to digest for the reader and improved the overall quality of the book, but it was still a very good outing with JS Cannon.
“You’re everything to me. Every broken piece of you fits perfectly with every broken piece of me.”
I was initially thinking this would be a simple dark depraved novella but why did I feel so much emotions??? Logan and Page stories were heartbreaking but the way they love each other was so beautiful. Logan was so pathetically in love with Paige and the mouth he had on him had me cheesing🤭. Also the spice in this 🫣😏. Anyways the way this novella went was crazy and was not expecting what occur but it flow really well. Anyways I am definitely checking out this author other books for suree.
: ̗̀➛Pre-Review: In the mood for something short and depraved so let's gooooo 🤣
MF/dual POV/dark romance/non traditional HEA/instalove/serial killer/possessive/childhood trauma/mentions of child sexual assault/vigilante/revenge/graphic murder/graphic torture… [I'm sure there’s more I didn’t list… just check if you have triggers]
REVIEW: This book was so good and I just wasn't putting it down until I was done. It was a bit darker then the other books I've read by Cannon. Very vigilante-esque... [yes, were making up words]. Logan has demons that fuel his after dark activities. Paige knows more than Logan thinks she does. Logan struggles with feeling worthy and I love Paige's reassuring nature. This was full of love, like that eternal, I won't live without you type of love.
Within the last 10% of this book, I thought I was going to lose my freaking mind. My emotions were warring, my skin was covered in goosebumps, my teeth were clenched, my eyes were watering.. jesus. I fell off the peak of this climax thinking I was going to need a xanax. I don't think I've experienced that range of emotions that quickly in quite some time. There was one line that just broke me, and I wish I could share it with you without worrying that it would give something away.
This book is definitely a page turner and while I was eager to reach the conclusion (while also desperately hoping things may turn out differently then I predicted), I found myself wanting more time with these characters. This does end with a HEA and a very cathartic one at that. Really enjoyed this one!
MAMA I’M IN LOVE WITH A CRIMINAL 🤩 i cried in the fucking prologue alone … this was so good !! i was not expecting to be in tears for a serial killer romance but alas here we are 😭
this was fast paced as fuck !! check your triggers 🖤 lovable serial killer, trauma, sexual abuse, trafficking, gore, home invasions, hot as fuck smut, morally pitch black mmc, supportive fmc 🥰
logan and paige met at a bar when he was bartending and she was out on a date. and then a couple months later they get married 🥹 the unhinged, serial killer husband and hardworking, supportive wife bond was A1 fucking steak sauce 🤌🏼 THE SPICE HELLO ?!! i loved logan’s rough side and i absolutely adored his soft side. logan and paige have been through so much. their childhood ripped away. and for these two beautiful souls to come together, i literally love them 😩 they’re all about each other. they protect each other. and they would burn down for each other
Thank you so much to the author for sending me the ARC.
HOLYSHIT this book was Dark, Disturbing, Steamy and I LOVED every minute of it. I had expectations going into this and this bypassed those completely. I have yet to find a book in the serial killer trope/genre that I loved as much as Mindfuck, UNTIL NOW! I couldn’t stop reading! That first chapter had my full attention so I knew I would be completely obsessed. Logan had a heartbreaking/brutal childhood and has been through things he never should have. The moment he lays eyes on Paige, she’s his. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The way he swooped in to save her had me swooning so hard. I love a protective man!!! Paige is such a strong FMC and definitely gave me Lana vibes from the Mindfuck series. I binged this book in one sitting and from 50% on I was glued to my kindle. The steamy scenes were HOT!! The love Logan & Paige had for each other was off the charts. They were truly each others ride or dies. My husband is my best friend and I could see that being us 🤣 maybe that’s why I loved them so much. The storyline was fantastic and the ending had me in tears but I also couldn’t stop smiling. I had one heck of a time going to sleep because I kept thinking about this book. Am I in need of therapy? Quite possibly, yes. I’ll be sending J.S Cannon the bill 😘
WOW. This book was amazeballs. How J. S. Cannon manages to write such captivating stories in under 200 pages just astounds me. Logan and Paige’s love story is beautifully told and well thought out. It’s about loving someone to the fullest, accepting all of them, even the darkest parts. Doing anything for them and never being apart. There’s passion and it’s hot but there’s also depth, making this more then just a spicy novella. Don’t get me wrong. It’s spicy. But smut doesn’t make my eyes leak. I was hot and bothered. Stressed. Mad. Scared. Knee bouncing with anxiety and honestly crying by the end. Also, everything was wrapped up nicely and I wasn’t left wanting or unsatisfied. Just emotionally destroyed.
I really enjoyed the idea the author came up with for the story. Paige and Logan were very devoted to each other and emotionally intelligent and I adored that. A little bit more development or depth to the story and characters would have given this story a little more “meat” to it. However, overall I enjoyed their relationship, their devotion, their loyalty, and I really liked the kill scenes. They were f**ked up and JS did a great job setting the scenes.
Unfortunately.. just meh. Repetitive expressions, the same declarations of love over and over again, and even the spicy scenes felt like written from one single template. And don't even get me started about “gush of liquids”.. again and again.🫠😆
And while I really appreciated that for once there were no detailed descriptions of SA(thank you from the bottom of my heart!!🙏), the graphic and violent scenes were a bit too much for me. And yes - of course I have read the warnings carefully beforehand. But I definitely think it just wasn't enough and it would be appropriate to describe it better and also in more detail. Forexample like: Graphic - and really extreme - unaliving scenes Brutal and gore torture…
Anyway, the last fifty or so pages were great, and the closer I got to the end, the more I finally started to like the book. That's why I'm rating one star higher. 5,5/10.
When a writer fuels a character’s purpose in life with their past trauma. There is something delightful and delicious about it … ☠️ The explanation for this is that the character will almost always have a spiteful and dark soul. The recipe of a stone cold killer. ☠️ Imagine one of these well designed killers with a sole mission which is to correct what the justice system fails to do.. 💀 Also…Give that same cold-blooded killer a woman’s heart, and watch him be unstoppable. ☠️ Put all that chaos together.. and You have a well-adapted story and a book that you can’t put down.
Not a very long book but nonetheless a great read. It tells us the love story of our MCs, their backgrounds and especially our MMCs, as this is what turns him to a s3rial k!ll3r. Theirs is a fast move from meeting, dating and marrying. It’s not all sunshine and light though, as he doesn’t tell her what he does at night when he disappears from their marital bed and she hasn’t told him what she’s done. That is until one night when something happens that ensures their secrets come out, it only makes their love grow stronger.
I totally enjoyed the dynamics of the pair, the descriptive writing of his vigilante k!ll!ngs is great 💋 and the smut is spicy 🌶️.
Okay... WHAT?! I was not expecting to cry like that! I was a puddle by the end of this book, I could not put it down. The love and raw emotions that Paige and Logan feel are so deep it's all consuming. They both have dark pasts filled with trauma and they love whole heartedly until the end. This book satisfied that need I have to see two people so consumed by each other that they would kill for it.
It felt like the author was constantly highlighting the abuse both characters had suffered through. Not one chapter has gone by without it being pushed into one's face. It was like I was reading the same thing over and over again.
I get it. You are traumatized. No need to mention it every two pages.
“You’re everything to me. Every broken piece of you fits perfectly with every broken piece of me.”
Wow! Reaper is my first book by J.S. Cannon. It completely ripped my heart out. I love a book that leaves an emotional impact and Reaper certainly accomplished that. But this book is not for everyone. The book tackles several triggering topics - SA, abuse, and graphic violence. To me, the violence was not over the top because it fit the context of the story. The overall theme of this book for me, was to show the affect of childhood trauma on an adult. It was a powerful message and you couldn't help but feel for Logan and Paige. This couple was unique and pulled on your heart strings, especially that ending!
I only had two cons with this book. The first was its short length. The story could have been flushed out more for a longer book. There were several parts I wished went more in-depth. For example, Logan and Paige's courtship. We see their first meeting and then the book jumps to a time after their marriage. The second was the number of sex scenes in the book. This is a short book and a huge chunk of the book are sex scenes. I think the author was using these scenes to show the intimate and soulful connection between Logan and Paige, but sometimes there can be too many sex scenes, at least for me.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It packed a huge emotional punch. I will definitely try another book by this author.
This was such a dark and beautiful story. I loved every aspect of it and recommend it so much for those that love darker content with an emotional offering. I absolutely love a read that questions morality and gives a notion of vigilante justice. Not only are you given an excellent storyline (one that personally made my heart hurt in a beautiful way), but the brutality this read offers is excellent. But the love story of it all is… GOD. No words for it.
You follow our married couple, Logan and Paige. They both come from backgrounds of severe trauma, but they are completely the light of each others life. But eventually, Paige comes to terms with her husband’s activities and how they may be lining up with news stories… and every story has a similar person of interest as a victim… And it just leaves with one question. How long? How long before the truth is revealed?
This was such an emotional read for me. I was both extremely happy and extremely sad for our characters. For a shorter read, I experienced every emotion with them and for them. I cried for them. I loved with them. And that’s how I know this was a five star read for me.
“You always leave me sore, but I always want more.” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ✨Review✨
First and foremost thank you J. S. Cannon author for the ARC copy of Reaper in return of honest review.
“After all the pain, we deserve this happiness. You are mine and I am yours. Until our last breath.”
This book consumed me the same way Reaper consumed his Little Phoenix. The story revolves around Logan "Reaper" Keane and Paige "Little Phoenix" Keane and their darkness. Logan and Paige met in a bar where a cocksucker was harassing Paige and their story went from their. Both Paige and Logan had a dark childhood and they both take our the rage in different ways. What happens with their life after their secrets are revealed is not what I expected. The ending was so well written and it kept me on my toes till the damn epilogue. This book was 🤌🤌. J. S. Cannon author did not disappoint. Read it AFTER reading the TWs.

Reaper is a dark serial killer love story. There is difficult subject matter in this book, so please be sure to check the trigger warnings. That being said, I really enjoyed this story. I was hooked right from the beginning. Reaper is dark, disturbing violent, and passionately spicy. I feel this book is perfectly paced and flows beautifully. I absolutely adore Logan and Paige. Their Insta love is the definition of ride or die. I am always all for an obsessive, possessive, sexually charged, morally black MMC. Beautifully broken Logan checks all of those boxes and I truly fell hard for him. Both Logan and Paige have horrific tragic past, but they are able to overcome and survive with eternal fervent passion for each other. Nothing and no one will impact their love. Reaper is a satisfying wild emotional ride. If you’re looking for a fast unhinged, dark, steamy read, then this is for you. “I’ll always choose now. This moment. This life. For eternity.”
“I was starving for a destiny that meant something. Anything to fill the black hole where my heart and soul were ripped out of my chest.”
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING

This book was a roller coaster ride and I enjoyed every minute of it. The beginning was deep, the middle made you swoon and laugh, and also gave you an understanding of the characters, then the end rips your heart out into tiny bits and pieces.
The beautiful love story of Logan and Paige will keep you hooked from start to finish.
The spice scenes were very spicy 🥵 I need me a Logan in that department 😅
Thanks J.S.Cannon for the advanced copy. The book was so good that I had to buy it as well 😍
This book was such a rollercoaster of events and emotions that I couldn't put the book down.
I'm in love with the Reaper. 😍 Not only does he love fiercely but he also is a vengeful dark angel. He became the Reaper and served justice to those the system should have punished more. The uncle scene was intense to say the least, but so well written that u felt it in your bones.
Paige is Logan's light in life....and in death he is hers. Absolutely the best HEA 😍
Please read the warnings before starting this book.

This book has left me reeling, what a whirlwind of emotions. The darkness always draws me and this book had it all. Obsession, loyalty, raw unfiltered love and the spice was impeccable. The love Paige and Logan have is truly unmatched. The gory scenes are phenomenal I love being able to picture it all! And the end just left me swooning honestly. 10/10 recommend this book
This book was wild! I never knew what was going to happen next! The only thing I didn't like was that it felt like their story ended way too soon, as if there could've been more events. But other than that I love it!
This strange, twisted love story was truly awesome! It has it all, passion, spice, childhood trauma, abuse, revenge, a little twisted justice, and of course muder!!!!
A quick, right to the point book about being madly in love and just how far you'll go to prove you love someone. Lying and dishonesty, being ashamed of their reaction when you tell them something major about your life, but they embrace you and love you for it.
Logan and Paige have it all, both young adults from severely broken homes and childhoods, finding themselves entranced in each other, their soul, bodies, and emotions all intertwined. Together, they give off Bonnie and Clyde vibes, and I'm all for that type of love, They are together until the very end, and even for eternity past the end they will still be together.
Smutty scenes started off a bit rough for me but quickly grew into scenes of passion and lust for one another. Logan marks Paige every chance he gets, whether from bruising or from breeding he did it all. Smut: 🥵🥵🥵🥵 Spice:🌶🌶🌶
Also loved how just much this book touches on trauma in general, focusing heavily on CSA and abusive home lives for our MCs. Hence, how our Reaper came to be, ridding the earth of those whose crimes were only dealt with a slap on the wrist, even though they destroyed many lives.

I was beyond underprepared for the beauty that this story holds. Holy emotions, Batman. I randomly crossed this book on Instagram and added it to my TBR. Queue book rut, I went for it, and it was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. J.S. Cannon, you are too amazing for words. This story grabs you with both hands and holds on tight, right until the end. I’m still flabbergasted and don’t even have the right words to do this book justice. Logan and Paige were so beautifully broken, and perfect for each other. To say they are soulmates is a complete understatement. Their dedication, loyalty and undying love for each other made me feel so many emotions. Keeping this book forever, because I never want to forget how it made me feel.
So many emotions after reading this one. I liked the premise of this a lot! Lots of trigger warnings here so be sure to check them out if you’re a sensitive reader.
I like that the reaper goes around seeking justice for the children who have been abused by torturing and murdering the sick individuals who abused them. I also like the love story behind the reaper and how incredibly spicy it was. The ending was slightly predictable, but satisfying nonetheless. Solid 3.5 stars!
5/5 ⭐️ their love, devotion, their coming together story 😩 some of the scenes were very very gruesomely detailed, which I liked. I am not a crier, but this ending had me in my feels and quietly crying in bed 🖤

It was the ending for me that made this go from a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ was on point and the plot was thought out and executed well for a shorter book.
