Got hooked in this straight away in this 'in between World War' stories. The villain is there from the beginning and has me holding my breath. But then, a big distracting section around the Smallwood family.....I loved the characters, but it went round and round in unnecessary circles...... Hebe Smallwood and her pompous outdated ways got on my wick.......but it came back to the main theme of the story in delivering justice to the abuser and murderer.

The side story of adoption and selling babies of unmarried women could have gone further and had a good outcome.

But I still enjoyed this book and romped through it.

Another good read

I've enjoyed reading this series ( except for the kids of sleep). Anne Baker has definitely written a " can't put down" story

Could not put this book down. Would have liked to have had more in the story about the adoption part but other than that I really enjoyed it.
