'Your mother was a naughty girl. She sinned.' Aunt Maud's cruel words shock Rosie Quest, but they also explain the hostility that surrounds her on the run-down Wirral no wonder her aunt resents having had to take in an illegitimate child. When she fails to halt the romance by conventional methods, Beatrice resolves to try more drastic tactics, even if that means uncovering secrets best left buried...
Anne Baker trained as a nurse in England, but after her marriage lived in Libya and Nigeria before returning to Birkenhead, where she worked as a health visitor. She now lives with her husband in Merseyside.
Once again, Anne Baker has written another engaging novel. Her characters leap off the page, coming to life with pathos and humour. I couldn't figure out who Rosie's true father was until well into the novel. I adore this author.
I just love this author.i feel when i read her work, i am also getting a history lesson. This book was relevent and to the point.it show

This could have been an excellent book. Great story line but way too long.Too much detail. I skipped much at the end just to get it finished. Took me way too long to read this.
