Elliot Sawyer wasn’t supposed to be alive. He’d cheated death by changing shifts with one of his men. Sure, his man asked for the change, but guilt gnawed on his heart every second of every day. If he’d been there, maybe he would have seen something, done something to stop the massacre. Leaving Guardian wasn’t an option for him, but changing assignments was.
Maya Callahan didn’t have time to deal with the threats she’d been receiving. Her business was on the brink of an IPO that would make her a billionaire many times over. Her new bodyguard was supposed to be window dressing. Something to allay concerns for her safety. He wasn’t supposed to be noticed by anyone, especially her. But there was something about the handsome sentinel that intrigued her.
Elliot’s position as personal security officer for one of the top business minds in the country was supposed to be a walk in the park. He wasn’t here to be enchanted by her smile or beguiled by her kindness and flat-out bowled over by her beauty.
When bullets, bombs, and a determined killer take aim at his charge, Elliot will do anything to save Maya’s life. Even if saving her means giving up his own.
USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author, Kris Michaels is the alter ego of a happily married wife and mother. She writes romance, usually with characters from military and law enforcement backgrounds.
Kris was born and raised in South Dakota. She graduated many years ago from a high school class consisting of 13 students (yes that is thirteen, eleven girls and two boys...lucky boys). She joined the military, met her husband, and traveled the world. Today she lives on the Gulf Coast and writes full time.
Kris is an avid people watcher and dreamer. The stories she writes are crafted around the hopes and dreams of a true romantic. She believes love is essential, people are beautiful, and everyone deserves a happy ending.
When she isn't writing Kris enjoys a full life revolving around family, friends, laughing, whiskey, and cold red wine. (Yes cold...don't judge.)
An excellent book. As usual, it's a great story, awesome characters, and great character development. Both characters are a perfect match for each other.
Elliot was the lead bodyguard for Jason's family.l After the events of the Seige, he has been waiting for another assignment. Maya is a very rich woman being targeted by a psycho. She has always just been seen as a means to an end in every relationship she has been in.
One of the things I enjoyed in this book was the difference highlighted between being a boos and being a leader. It really makes Maya much more likeable. Elliot comes across as the usual Guardian protector, but with the shadow of the Seige hanging over him, he exists but is not living. I do like the other Guardians' reaction to him, continuously adding layers to his.
Talk about sitting on the edge of your seat!! Fantastic storyline and the intrigue will keep you turning the page. Elliot and Maya were perfect for each other. I love this series. Definite five stars.
Elliot is book ten in Kris Michaels's Guardian Defenders series. Elliot Sawyer is still suffering from survival guilt when he receives a new assignment to look after Maya Callahan, who is receiving death threats. This assignment is a chance for Elliot and a way to move forward in the Guardian organisation. However, Maya Callahan does not believe she is in danger. Elliot realises he has his work cut out to ensure Maya's safety. Readers of Elliot will continue to follow him and Maya to discover what happens.
I enjoy Kris Michaels's writing style, which ensures I engage with her books from the first page. Elliot was no different, and I found it hard to put the book down. I did it again and started a new series at the last book. I enjoyed the twist at the end of this book that I did not see coming. I love Kris Michaels's portrayal of her characters and how they interact with each other throughout this book. Elliot is well-written and researched. I like Kris Michaels's description of the settings of Elliot, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
Elliot's readers will learn about jealousy, greed, and fraud and their consequences for everyone involved. They will also understand the work of publicising a company on the stock exchange.
Another winner on the books for Kris Michaels. Elliot was everything you'd expect in a Guardian's book but it had a bit of a different vibe. It was no less exciting, suspenseful, dramatic dangerous or spicy. There are some deeply emotional and poignant moments as Elliot and Maya recall past events that have shaped their lives. Maya Callahan is a phenom in the business world. She's smart, driven and tenacious. At first I found her to be a bit too buttoned down with her workaholic attiude and cool demeanor. Having Elliot Sawyer come into her life, like it or not, softens her edges and allows her to show more emotions knowing that he's got her back. She in turn gives him a reason to start living and breathing again. The weight of survivor's guilt and te loss of his team have had long term devastating effects. Their attraction is palpable and the chemistry is electric when they finally give into their feelings. Unraveling the mystery of who and why Maya is getting threats is intense. Ms Michaels throws in enough curveballs and hints to keep you guessing throughout. I loved this book start to finish!
After all the books Ms Michaels has written about her Guardian world, she continues to amaze and entertain with the originality and depth of her characters and story.
Seeing Elliot get his HEA after The Siege made my heart happy. Knowing that the generation of the Siege have found their happy, and the next gen is ready to take over is a testimony to the miracle of Kris Michaels!
Elliot is assigned as personal protection for Maya, a very successful business woman. She is being threatened as she prepares to take her newest company public. After the Siege, Elliot has dealt with massive survivor’s guilt. When sparks fly between himself and Maya, he is initially reluctant to follow through. As the stalker escalates, he and Maya act on their attraction and in true Guardian fashion, Elliot finds his forever in his protectee. This one has some delicious twists and turns you don’t expect and a fantastic ending! No spoilers though.
It definitely did not disappoint and leaves you wanting more. 10/10 recommend!
Oh wow Elliott’s book has all the feels. This one grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go. I started it well after midnight wanting to get a few chapters in. Go ahead insert laugh. I didn’t put it down until I finished it around 8am. So plan if you read like me. Start early and all that jazz. Back to Elliott and Mya. I feel like I know Elliott from the previous books when he and his team guarded Jason’s family. Survivors guilt has plagued him since the siege and he finally got an assignment proving security for an important friend of a friend of Guardian. Mya work hard and expects the same from her employees. She doesn’t like to waste money either. I love her work ethic and her stubbornness as well as her ability to see she really needs security when she gets a special package at her apartment. As they work together these two are attracted to one another. There are lots of suspects, drama, action and suspense. You really don’t want to miss out on Elliott.
Elliot is the tenth book in the Guardian Defenders series by Kris Michaels. With this series, Ms. Michaels delivers a compelling mix of romantic suspense, tactical action, and emotional storytelling. It’s another spin-off from the Kings of Guardian series, and definitely doesn’t disappoint, retaining the same high-energy pacing and interconnected worldbuilding I have come to expect from Ms. Michaels, while also introducing us to new operatives with their own unique missions and personal challenges. Each book can be read as a standalone romance that’s wrapped up in a high-stakes operation - but I would be remiss not to mention that together they form a cohesive web of loyalty, trust, and found family. Once again, Ms. Michaels delivers authentic action sequences grounded in military and covert operations, distinct character voices that make each operative memorable, interconnected relationships that add an extra dynamic to the overall series, and the perfect balance between suspense and romance. Happy Reading…
I really enjoyed the story. The character development was great, as were the relationships. However, I have to admit that there was something missing. It could be that the King family was on the periphery, or even with Con constantly there, it was like that part of Guardian was on the outside looking in, either way, I was a little disappointed.
I think that the one thing that is bothering, and confusing, me is the timeline. It’s only been seven years since the first book in the series, Jacob, came out, but Jacob son is already an adult and a Guardian. The timing doesn’t make sense. This story starts six.months after The Siege, even with the five year addition, The kids should still be teenagers, not getting ready to take over.
I wish the author would create a timeline, with events connected, for the reader to follow across all of the series. I’ve read all of the books up to now, but I’m still confused.
I finally got around to reading Elliot and it was absolutely amazing, I can’t believe I read it so quickly🙈
Anywho, Maya is about to take her company to IPO but keeps having minor incidents which keeping pushing this back. She’s on the homestretch when she receives an unusual “gift”. Calling her mentor, she recommends getting some additional security and makes a call.
Elliot is still struggling with the aftermath of the Siege and losing his men on that fateful day but also is questioning his abilities as he hasn’t received an assignment in six months. He’s being called up now and his assignment is just challenging enough to keep him engaged. But Maya is distracting enough, he has his work cut out for him🥹
Loved Elliot and Maya and definitely suspected who the culprit was❣️
Gah! Elliot is THE BIGGEST protector, the guilt he still carries from The Siege and the death of his team is heart breaking, but he hasn't let it destroy him. He took time and changed his focus and Maya is his first PSO assignment, she is also the only one who can open his heart to trust again. The moment their eyes meet we don't just get sparks, but full on flames, my kindle was sizzling! They both have baggage and fears, trust issues that mean they prefer to work alone, but one simple meal changes everything....becomes everything. I loved this book and seeing two amazing people finally get the HEA they deserve, I also really loved the lead into the new Legacy series which is next in the Guardian world....I cannot wait for January and the first Legacy book!
When I see the next Kris Michaels book come available, I know I'm in for a real treat. Elliott and Maya's story is filled with exciting suspense from the beginning. Maya's success brings many accolades along with dangerous things as well. Elliott gets a huge surprise when he meets Maya as he's always kept things professional but meeting Maya takes him by surprise as he finds himself in a different situation all together. The danger continue's as they try to decipher who's pulling the strings and take them out! This has been another excellent story by one of my favorite Authors. I've read every one of her novels and I only want more, more and more!
Elliot and Maya’s story manages to bridge the gap between the original Guardians and Guardian Legacy . There are still many original characters involved but also some of the next generation appearing. As always with a Kris Michaels story there is a highly convoluted plot line with angles from all directions. I love how her heroines are such strong women and Maya is definitely that. Elliot is strong but with a heart , Uncle Elliot. Another fabulous book, with lots of Easter eggs for future stories.
Wow! Kris has done it again! This story is about Elliott, if course, and Maya. Two people who thought love would never find them. When Elliott becomes Maya's bodyguard, things go south pretty quickly. Needless to say, Elliott got his adventure he was looking for. The bad guy was a total surprise! Glad all of the bad guys were taken care of. Interesting to meet Maya's dad. I don't understand why he didn't want to see his daughter. Anyway, glad these two found love and their happy ending. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would highly recommend this book!
You sort of pick out the bad guy right away but then you realize there is much, much more going on. Elliot is struggling with survivors guilt. Maya is bringing her business into the next level. Things have happened. Con's mom calls Guardian and they send in the best of the best, Elliot. Maya and Elliot click right away. Issues escalate very quickly. A surprise, sort of at the end. So? Is it A good guy or a bad guy???? I love the Kings, Shadows, and Guardians!!...
Maya and Elliot. New York City for a new assignment and danger lurks around the corner for Maya. The chemistry is immediate and the discussions insightful. The role of other Guardian employees who all look up to Elliot was fun and the side story of who Mayas biological dad was, was entertaining. The threat was predictable, but also shown that way with Elliot having concerns immediately. Hearing Con was a hoot especially with his mom’s interactions and Ronnie’s byplay. I love the Guardian world and this book was a great addition.
I enjoyed reading this book. Really liked the MC’s. Maya is a strong, capable CEO who cares a lot about people and her employees. Elliot is strong alpha who is more than capable of being her protector. I like watching their relationship grow and how well they got along with each other. They have hot chemistry. The mystery of who’s targeting Maya was interesting and had me guessing. There’s a good amount of twists that were surprising. This was well written and I enjoyed it. I recommend this book.
Haven't heard about Elliott for a long time. and I had to think back, until of course faith's name came up. It was a great story that of course has been done before bat. That's not necessarily a problem because it's Chris's awesome. Writing that makes this fantastic as well. Is the master of all masters matt haynes. Suspense action slow burn type romance, some tiny steamy bits. And the promise that we all love ever after. It's just wonderful to hear old characters. And then the promise of a new guardian dynasty. So, looking forward to more from Kris. Thank you so much for a great book.
Kris does it again! Another home run for her with Elliot!
Elliot and Maya are hot! 🔥 lived Con and Elliott's interaction as well as Kris bringing in many of the lesser characters. This book is a perfect example of why Kris Michaels is such a great author. Thank you Kris for another wonderful ride with Guardian Security. Loved Elliot for so long and I am glad he got his story out. 💜📚🎉🔥🍾😺👏
Another warrior sees light after the dust of the siege clears. Elliot had lost his entire team, and became an excess asset after other team took over guarding Archangel and his family. He is assigned to guard a young entrepreneur who has made a splash in business and has become the subject of an ongoing threat. This story takes some unraveling, as the threat is multi-layered. There's a good sneak peak at the future, too.
Do you believe in Love At First Sight? Kris must! Here's Lima One, the most fit and best Guardian specimen, devoted to serving, alone, finally getting an assignment in The Big Apple. Upon meeting his client they both feel the electricity in the air. After introductions the action speeds buy like a bullet. I especially enjoyed visiting with Jason, Faith and Reece. Jace has always been my favorite Guardian. Great story, well worth waiting for!
What starts out as a protective detail quickly turns to both having feelings but refusing to acknowledge how deep they really are so quickly. But then things start happening and escalate fast. Elliot is trying to keep Maya safe but someone is determined to kill her. Will they ever get all the players and rind out who is behind it? Can Elliot and Maya see a long distance relationship in their future?
Elliot Sawyer was convinced he was being fired when he was handed a PSO assignment for busy exec Maya Callahan in NYC. Maya’s company was about to launch an IPO with new technology and had begun having inexplicable incidents that her friend thinks are actually attempts on her life. But Maya’s so wrapped up in her business, she shrugs them off as common, negligble accidents that could happen to anyone. With one glance, Elliot’s not so sure. Rating: 4.25stars
Kris always keeps us coming back for more. Elliot's story has been a long time coming. Of course, all the plot twists kept us on our toes. The weave of characters throughout Guardian helps us to not really miss characters that we love as they keep making guests appearances. I am so excited for the upcoming Guardian Dynasty series!
Kris Michael s never fails to deliver. Great story! Elliott and Maya were an awesome team and never stopped the intrigue. I love Guardian and can't wait for Maximus's story. Its always a 1 click when a Michaels story releases. You are never disappointed to spend the next hours in a Guardian bubble of love and suspense!
Elliot and Maya, a dream made in heaven and all the mystery and action you could imagine. It sounds like it’s the intro into the Legacy series and no I can’t wait to read the next series of these wonderful characters. Kris you had better keep writing about the Guardians as I don’t think we can ever let them go. Thank you!
Kris you’ve done it again. What a story between Elliot and Maya. Elliot is now a PSO for Maya who feels like she doesn’t need but as the story moves ahead it becomes clear Maya needs to rethink. We get to see what other members of Guardian are up too and get introduced to some new ones.
What a turn of events, seeing Elliot (in my minds eye) finding the love of his life in Maya and the tumultuous journey that they encountered, was truly a literary experience. Coupled with a step along the path of the transition to the next generation of Guardian, holy fudge balls!! What a treat, I am so excited for the stories that are going to come.
This was a fantastic read. Lots of little twist added to the plot. Maya is a strong and caring woman. A great match for Elliot who is a strong and caring man. It was nice to see how the family really cared about him and I loved how he didn't realize it at first but then came to realize it. I definitely recommend this book.
Elliot Sawyer thought his time was up in Guardian. What he didn't see coming was a new life with more changes than he had imagined. At the heart of the new changes was Maya Callahan, entrepreneur and an award winning under 40 business woman. Unexplained incidences bring these two together but it will be up to them to make a future. So good.
