First, she was kidnapped. And now, she was facing death. She looked around, wondering how she had gotten into this predicament in the first place. All she'd ever wanted was a little excitement.... But she never meant anything like this. What was she going to do? What do you do when it felt like the world was crashing down around you? When a whole group of people in the kingdom was in danger? When the king had signed a death penalty without even realizing it?She had to save her people. She had to save her family. She had to save herself. She needed to be brave. To find her courage. To do what she had to do to save them all.A Christian young adult coming-of-age Bible story retelling.
For Such a Time as Everly is a beautiful retelling of Esther’s story from the Bible. Some details have changed, and there were unexpected plot twists that took me by surprise, but it captures the essence of one of my favourite Bible stories. God’s will WILL be done. His will is good. We can trust him.
I loved Everly in this book. She has such a sweet personality. Even as she tries to plot to get out of the beauty pageant that would make her queen, she does it in a lovely manner.
I also enjoyed the King, and the way he softened and changed through knowing Everly and falling for her. Their love story felt very genuine to me.
A very interesting story. What I loved best was how it made me keep thinking of Esther in the Bible how it must have been for her to go through all this. I have never read Biblical fiction and of course this is not the same but I liked that it gave me insight into how it felt to be placed in that situation and time period.
A wonderful retelling of Esther! I could not put it down after I reached the new queen's wedding night. This book contains a lot of valuable lessons about the importance of character growth and open communication in marriage as well as how hard situations can sometimes bring us into God's purposes for us!
