I have done a lot of Bible studies over the years, some of which weren't legitimately “Bible studies” at all, (more like books about the Christian life), and there were some that were very good. But only twice before was there a Bible study that I would actually call life-changing: those were Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God and Nancy Leigh DeMoss' Seeking Him. Both of those studies helped me to know God in a deeper, more intimate way, and helped me to have an experience with Him.
I am now able to add Behold Your God to this list. This book is a cry in the wilderness asking me to take my eyes off myself and all the things in this world that continually distract me, and seek hard after the holy God of the Bible, digging deeper and deeper into His precious Word. I highly recommend this study to any Christian or anyone who is interested in who the God of the Bible is.
I recommend this Bible study to anyone desiring to relearn who God is from His Word. Every chapter has helped correct and widen my view of Him, and I plan to read it again soon!
Great in depth study of scripture about who God is. Broken down into 5 days a week for 12 weeks makes it easily attainable to do in small sections to really take it in.
There aren’t enough stars to rate this book! If it doesn’t set you on fire, convict you, and help you see how much you—a sinner—needs God, then your heart is still stone (Ezekiel 36:26). This study is now my #1 to not just read again, but to lead me through who God is and what I need to do to seek Him. It nails every corner of our root sins as well as how wrongly we view God. This is a deep study, not to be taken lightly. Nor is it a quick read. Expect to finish in more than 12 weeks. (We watched the videos as a church, but you don’t have to have the videos to fully grasp the teachings.) There were times I re-read certain days, divided up days, or took a few days to meditate on the information because the content was so heavy. I needed time to digest it. Pick this study up if you want to leave it convicted, humbled, and with zeal.
I’ve yet to find a bible study workbook as doctrinally sound and life changing as “Behold your God”. It truly does guide you to rethink the God of the Bible. There are a lot of things that seemed self explanatory to me as a Christian. I’m not in awe of our Creator the way I should be. I don’t marvel at His beautiful character, and how He is revealed to us. That is because I have such a shallow, superficial understanding of God. This is the type of workbook that takes a while to sink in and digest. I know that I will need to repeat this course again and again, and I’m looking forward to it!
If you’ve been looking for a study that will challenge, provide biblical viewpoints, and also provide hope for the future of your church-going years, do this study.
It’s one of the best I’ve ever completed and it provided so many thought-provoking questions that I’m thankful that God has provided me as He prunes my heart. The historical information is also wonderful.
Great In-Depth Bible Study. There is a lot to digest through in each week, but definitely a great study to get your heart back closer to God. This study has been great for me to come back to knowing God as I should. It was also helpful to the the book along with the companion DVDs.
We did this study for our churches Sunday school and we were blessed by the discussion that resulted from our weekly study. The video series is done well and gives you a deeper hunger for God’s truth and learning about faithful men / women who have gone before. This could be done with or without the video series, but that adds to its value.
This was such a great study! Are we worshipping a god of our own imaginations/of our own making, or are we beholding the God of the Bible and His great glory for His great Name? Thank you for this study!
Pretty solid study. The book is good stand alone, but the video’s which accompany each week grant greater context to a lot of the themes within. Completed it with my church Bible study. The videos are pretty long, so you have to be willing to stay for a while to really discuss.
This comment refers not to the book but the bio connected to your description. The bio connected is not the correct John Snyder. The author / pastor is very good and deserves attribution.
Pretty good. Would of made a great book. Overall I think we need to stop doing workbooks and calling it a bible study and start actually studying our bibles.
This is one of the best studies I have done. What I studied and absorbed in this book will shape my walk with God for the rest of my time here. His name, glory and fame permeate the pages and caused my heart to see a bigger God which is always best for me to be less and Him to be more. I can’t recommend this study high enough for any wanting to walk closer or know God better.
This book was intended as a study guide for a video series, but it stands fairly well on its own. I went through it with Andrea as part of our courtship. It was very helpful in bringing up questions that spurred self examination. But it was a bit of a mixed bag - you would go from very deep, meaningful questions, to fill in the blanks for scripture passages.
Two particular things that I learned from this book is that there is an aspect of sanctification that occurs immediately after salvation. Upon justification we are set apart from the world as a holy people to God. The second is that although it is proper to be driven to evangelize by a desire to save people from hell, we should have an even greater design to see God honored and and his authority respected by having one less person living in rebellion against him.
One of the best ways I have ever used my time. This was a life-altering "rethinking" of who the God of the Bible is and how we are to live in light of that. There is a DVD set that goes along with it that is vital to the study. We did this as a group in our church, and the discussion was extremely rich and helpful.
I've learnt a lot from this sturdy;more of what God is and how I should worship, and how I should love Him more;to deal with my root sins, not just the fruit.
This is an excellent Bible study that we completed over the last 12weeks at a local church. Highly recommend for group discussion and great for exploring who God really is!
