"An auspicious initial science fiction saga of epic dimensions and vast intergalactic scale which chronicles the struggles of JT Wayne as he endeavors to cope with injuries, heart break, and loss. Rife with riveting characterization of exotic species and galaxy spanning civilizations. A captivating, taut military campaign allegory wrapped in political commentary with faint science fantasy elements. A thought provokingly relatable everyman whose access point illuminates wider questions about the nature of being and meaning. A genuinely heart felt five-star score."

- Ronald B. Kline, Jr.

Author of Strange Visions Lerner Publishing Group, Inc.

Meet Sergeant John Thomas (JT): the sole survivor of a devastating battle and mankind's only hope for possibly defeating the Gnoracs, a race of alien aggressors, in the 4th Great Inter-Stellar War. Will JT be able to make the peace his superiors strive for a reality? Along the way he meets a host of characters, some shadier than others. He also encounters a young part alien doctor who may hold the key to his heart. JT wants to get back home to visit his surviving family. But that goal is lofty.

With a myriad of species and alien races from across the universe, JT finds himself in a race against time. His mind conflicts with his better judgement advising him not to follow his emotional instincts. This is because he is a Federal Marine sworn to duty first. However, when his healer who is also his protector seems to care more for him than is professionally acceptable, what can he do but react humanely? After all, JT is a human first and only after that is he a Marine. Will he survive to become the savior of the Federation and its allies? Will he find love? Will the Gnoracs be defeated saving humanity and Cybrinthian-kind? Read John Thomas and the Last Flight Home to find out.

Sci-fi isn't my typical genre, but I enjoyed this. The author (and I declare an interest, I first met him in elementary school) excels at world-building, crafting backdrops and technologies that draw enough on others in the written and especially visual mediums to be familiar but possessed of more than enough novelty to be interesting. He draws upon historical analogy and myth to leaven the story and rise above the tried and true notion of dueling starships. He is an Army vet and there are enough references to and riffs on contemporary military culture to add an additional wrinkle for those who are fluent in the same. The end result is an ambitious, far-reaching tale with a handful of memorable side-characters supplementing the main duo, a page-turner with broad appeal that should strike a particular chord with those who enjoy sci-fi set in outer space. I read it in just two days.

The Last Flight Home is a thrilling, heartfelt, and ambitious science fiction saga that explores both the vastness of intergalactic war and the intimate struggles of one man’s humanity. Ricky Hausler crafts an epic that’s as emotionally resonant as it is action packed blending the grit of military sci-fi with the philosophical depth of classic space opera.

Sergeant John Thomas (JT) emerges as a compelling everyman hero a survivor torn between duty, loss, and love amid the chaos of the Fourth Great Inter-Stellar War. The world-building is rich with diverse alien civilizations and moral complexity, while the relationships, especially JT’s connection with his part-alien healer, lend the story a moving emotional gravity.

An exceptional debut that delivers both scale and soul perfect for readers who crave adventure that challenges the heart as much as the mind.

I wrote this thing. Of course it's awesome! A little bit of everything: Sci-Fi, Romance, Fantasy, Military Campaigns, Nasty Aliens, Gorgeous Half-Aliens, Weapons that can destroy entire planets and stars... etc. You get the picture.
