Love Addict's RPG V1.00 - The Tutorial Girl: A Dating Sim LitRPG Slice of Life Romantic Comedy Harem Series

Rate this book
Oliver Chase only has two things going for him; an addiction to dating sim RPGs and a spotty mental health history.

Stuck working a dead-end job, another lonely Valentine's Day passes Oliver by. There's a coworker he's kind of into, but irl flirting isn't as easy as choosing the right dialog option and clicking a button, sadly... but what if it was? After a lonely night jackin' it under the influence of Special Californian Gummies™, Oliver awakens to what appears to be a complete psychotic breakdown. System notifications, menus, stats, and so much more RPG crap gets injected into his life faster than you can say, 'I Can't Believe It's Not Schizophrenia'.

Even crazier, Oliver starts earning 'Love Points' through having romantic interactions with certain girls, which can then be spent on skills ranging from passive buffs to reality-warping insanity. He wants to make the most of these new powers, but he won't earn enough to do so if he isn't working multiple angles, and between his chill coworker, his evil boss, and the girl who ruined his life? Well...

It's best to start with the tutorial.

World's End Harem Discussion (Anime) |

"Love Addict's RPG V1.00 - The Tutorial Girl" by Punished Kom appears to be a unique entry in the growing field of LitRPG, specifically targeting the niche intersection of dating simulation games and harem tropes within the genre. As title suggests a narrative that likely follows a protagonist navigating a game-like world focused on romantic interactions, particularly during a tutorial phase.

is “That time I got reincarnated as a slime” an ecchi? : r/anime

Plot and Premise:

The novel presumably centers around a character thrust into a world that operates on dating sim mechanics, with the "Tutorial Girl" likely serving as an initial guide or love interest. This setup aligns with common LitRPG tropes where characters must learn to navigate new, game-like realities. The "V1.00" in the title hints at a possible series or system updates, a concept familiar to both gamers and LitRPG enthusiasts.

Genre Blend:

"Love Addict's RPG" appears to be a bold attempt at merging several popular genres:

LitRPG: The inclusion of RPG elements suggests the presence of stats, levels, and possibly quests related to romantic pursuits.
Dating Sim: The focus on romantic interactions within a game-like setting is a core aspect of dating sim games, translated here into literature.
Harem: The title's implication of multiple romantic interests (starting with the "Tutorial Girl") suggests harem elements.

This combination of genres is relatively unique, as most LitRPG works focus on combat, adventure, or general life-simulation rather than specifically on romantic pursuits. The dating sim aspect, in particular, sets this work apart from many of its contemporaries in the LitRPG space.

Comparison to Contemporaries:

When compared to other works in these genres, "Love Addict's RPG" stands out for its specific focus on dating sim mechanics within a LitRPG framework. While novels like "High School DxD" explore harem themes in a fantastical setting, they typically lack the explicit game mechanics that define LitRPG. Similarly, many popular LitRPG series like "The Land" by Aleron Kong or "Awaken Online" by Travis Bagwell focus on combat and adventure, with romance as a secondary element at best.

The closest contemporaries might be found in web novels and indie publications that explore similar themes. However, the combination of a dating sim focus with LitRPG elements appears to be a relatively unexplored niche, potentially giving "Love Addict's RPG" a unique position in the market.

Potential Strengths:

Niche Appeal: The specific combination of genres could attract readers looking for something different in the LitRPG space.
Humor Potential: The dating sim premise within an RPG framework offers numerous opportunities for comedic situations and misunderstandings.
Character Development: If executed well, the focus on relationships could lead to deeper character exploration than some action-focused LitRPGs.

Potential Weaknesses:

Narrative Depth: There's a risk of the harem and dating sim elements overshadowing plot development, a common criticism in similar works.
Character Stereotypes: Harem genres often face criticism for relying on character stereotypes, which could limit the depth of character interactions.
Niche Limitations: The specific genre blend might limit the book's appeal to a broader audience.

Critical Perspectives:

The intersection of LitRPG, dating sims, and harem genres in literature is a contentious topic among critics and readers. While some appreciate the escapism and fantasy fulfillment these works provide, others argue that they often lack depth and rely too heavily on tropes. "Love Addict's RPG" enters this debate, potentially facing scrutiny over its handling of relationships and character development within its game-like framework.

The success of the novel likely hinges on how well it balances its various elements. A well-executed blend could offer a fresh take on LitRPG, providing both the satisfaction of game-like progression and the emotional engagement of a romance narrative. However, if poorly balanced, it risks falling into the pitfalls common to harem stories, such as shallow characterization and plot stagnation.

My Top 20 Ecchi/Harem anime | Anime Amino

Conclusion:

"Love Addict's RPG V1.00 - The Tutorial Girl" by Punished Kom represents an intriguing experiment in genre blending within the LitRPG space. Its focus on dating sim mechanics and potential harem elements sets it apart from many of its contemporaries, offering a unique experience for readers interested in the intersection of romance and game-like narratives.

Very entertaining

This one was a bit of a surprise. I went into this with little knowledge about the plot and have to say I was incredibly entertained the entire time. My only complaint and truly it's not much of one is the extreme slow burn of this novel. Given its length the total time that passes and how far the relationship progresses are a bit underwhelming but I only say this because of how much I want to see the characters go further. I hope the other continues this series and can't wait for the next book.

phenomenal relationship writing

This has some of the best awkward relationship writing that I’ve ever seen, it seriously manages to capture everything from flirty texting conversations to deep, introspective character moments. A phenomenal story about falling in love and building a relationship!

Love Addict's RPG V1.00 - The Tutorial Girl by Punished Kom - 4/5 Stars

First and foremost, I want to state that I am not an author. I have no idea what it takes to write a book. I am a consumer with an OPINION, and only an opinion, based on my life experiences. For reference, I quite easily ignore typos, errors, and logic issues, and spoilers don't bother me as I easily get engaged enough to forget what will happen next. I have a 2.6% DNF rate.

This slow-burn slice-of-life romcom LitRPG is a thoroughly enjoyable read. The book introduces harem elements and hints at future additions, which are handled well. The main character's issues are relatable, especially to those who remember their teenage years. Interestingly, the MC's girlfriend is the one pushing the harem talk, which might seem a bit unrealistic but adds an intriguing dynamic to the story.

The LitRPG system appears as a form of wish fulfillment, with no real explanation given beyond a possible marijuana-induced psychotic break. This leaves room for fascinating interpretations, such as the entire system being a hallucination with positive real-world outcomes. The boss battle at the end is well-written, although the logic behind it seems somewhat forced. However, the author provides in-world explanations that make it work within the story's context.

It's worth noting that the entire book spans only 4-5 days of in-world time, creating an interesting contrast between the slow-burn romance and the rapid timeline.

Rating Scale:

5 stars - Exceptional, life-changing, or will reread multiple times
4 stars - Highly enjoyable, likely to reread, would recommend
3 stars - Decent read, might not remember long-term
2 stars - Not for me, struggled to finish
1 star - Poorly written or factually incorrect

Overall, I give this book a solid 4 stars. The slow-burn yet highly erotic relationship, the engaging LitRPG system, and the well-developed characters and their interactions make for a great read. While it may not be life-changing or warrant multiple rereads, it's definitely a book I enjoyed and hope to see continued in future installments.

Expected fun, got the deep end

If you are asking 'should I read this?' Welp, the answer is a solid 'yes but not why you might think'. I got this expecting a typical b tier power fantasy but got much more.

The characters read more like actual people then characters. They talk about trauma and healing in very real ways. The MC is not just 'insert popular dom-esque name here over an everyman without personality' but an actual human being.

This was not the harem slice of life trash throwaway timewaster that I thought I was getting, instead it made me think a bit and cheer for the MC.

The novel could use some editing for flow, and built in illustrations to see the characters / scenes, but that is all that is preventing a 5 star review.

Kudos to the author. When I find the sequel comes I will be reading it that very day.

I ended up really enjoying this lengthy novel, despite it's fairly rough start.

The MC starts off as an abject loser. He's a 22yr old virgin working a dead end job as a grocery clerk, who has a habit of getting stoned on gummies and playing dating sims while edging himself for hours. Not exactly who you want to see luck into a harem. But in one of his stoned/hung-over states, he half-consciously wishes that his life was more like one of his dating sims, and lo-and-behold, he wakes up the next day to that being his new reality. And it's slow going at first.

The first LI is a co-worker who is actually just as awkward as the MC, and they have a brief shared history he doesn't remember initially. Actually, the MC has a shared history with the 2nd identified potential LI, who was a high-school bully to him and is also a co-worker. The book primarily focuses on the first LI, who is the only one he's gained any real traction with. I liked her, and the sex scenes (not fully consummated by the end of the book) are extremely well done.

It's been a while since this book came out, and the sequel is anticipated by quite a few people, myself included. Hopefully it comes out soon.

So I can't say I wouldn't recommend this book since I'm not the the audience for it. It is competently written but with a few minor grammar errors that look like spell check issues more then anything. The story is good if you are into dating sites and visual novels because the author makes you fell like you are in one of those better then other who used this twist. So if you like lots of build up to a relationship then this is for you.

One main criticism I have is that I felt the author spent way to much time describing everything. It felt like he'd introduce something give a brief explanation then proceed to give a detailed explanation of everything aspect of it. I skipped pages just looking for the original thought to be picked back up. So every plot point felt like it took forever to get through.

As for the reason it's not for me it's because I'm an Aromantic Aegosexual Asexual and it was way to much build up for not enough payoff. It just felt like a long winded build up to a first date to me. I'm not a fan of to much romance or relationship building in the first place and the payoff was just lackluster for everything I sat through. So I can say I won't be picking up the next book in this series and after reading his other books I won't be following this author any more. His writing style just isn't for me but I can see most haremlit and light novel enjoyers finding more fun with this book then I did.

It is very slowburn.

"Say the word, and I’ll arrange a one-way trip to dehydration station." LMAO, Mia is great. The humor in general was very good.

Story:

Spice:

Well written with great characters, but not really a pageturner, but that might be a me problem. Took me longer to read than normal, but on the other hand I also didn't stop reading the book. The first half is just veeeeeery slow, but also sets up the characters well.

If the next one picks up where this left of it's gonna be an easy 5 star.

way too long

More than half of the “narration” in this story should be shortened or entirely removed. There is no reason for this story to be this long and the author changing character pov (sometimes with multiple characters in the same scene) is jarring. Many times it felt like other chapters or scenes were being inserted into the scene and then the narration would switch back and it just became too annoying. Speaking of annoying, the MC is not likable or believable … I honestly only made it about a third of the way through the book before I started skimming / skipping forward multiple pages at a time only to discover that nothing changed despite skipping over pages and pages. Like I said —- a lot of the text should be shortened or eliminated.

It’s rough to start with, the mc get’s odd reality warping powers and expends almost zero thought as to where they might come from, could all be a simulation, or the last vestiges of a dying brain after he got smashed by truck-kun....was frustrating. The MC is autistic, so long as you accept that quickly there is a lot of drama/slice of life here to read. Nothing really happens, the relationships are very slow to move anywhere and only one gets any focus during this book, kept reading because I expected a twist, or for the power to get some kind of explanation, it doesn’t. The whole focus of the book is the MC’s day to day mundane life as he and his first gf struggle to overcome their debilitating social ineptitude. grew on me after awhile and committed to finishing it. Toes the line of mind control with the reality bending, doesn’t seem like it’ll go there as the author has made the mc opposed to it. Ending isn’t the greatest if you don’t have the option to read the next book.

Ahem, I shouldn't but I did...

I picked this up on a whim to keep my kindle reading streak alive not to expecting to get much out of it, and it was a slow/tedious start that nearly had me giving up. Boy am I glad I persevered through the, as it turns out, necessary introduction. The characters are just deep enough to be fun, there's just enough action to not be tedious, and the dirty writing was surprisingly hot (and I'm a little concerned about what that says about me). The only bad thing I can say about this book is that it came to an end... will absolutely be buying book 2 as soon as it's available.

Compelling

This book was a lovely binge-read for me, it's wholesome, it's funny and it's horny, each in all the best ways, I have no outright complaints other than the fact I can't have more of it yet.

All the characters are unique and interesting and their dynamics play well off each other, Bradley is plain hilarious and one of my favourite fictional characters yet. And the pacing is just right.

I can't promise it'll perfectly suit anyone's taste, perfection is a subjective illusion, but it should spark joy in any harem fan with a proper grasp of the English language, I recommended it.

well that was… actually really nice.

I’m a little surprised at how things the first litrpg lewd book I’ve read that directly spins the eroge dating sim game into a book. And you know what? It’s actually not tacky and I really enjoyed it. I’m not entirely proud of how many references I understood in here but I will say kudos to the author for actually knowing what’s in these games AND being up to date enough on them to put the references in here.

So that was breakfast but… what about second breakfast?

Best work yet

I have read a number of Punished Kom's books and enjoyed them all. With that being said, I genuinely think this blows them all out of the water! It's an interesting take on litRPG, and you can tell it was made with a lot of passion for the genre it borrows tropes from as well as passion for the work. I heartily recommend it, and look very forward to the next. You nailed it Kom!

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did

As a bibliovore, I devour most books in a matter of hours. This one took me an entire day and I was sad to see it end so quickly.

Great characters, each one memorable and unique.

Just enough cheese and side garnish to make the story fun and lighthearted.

With the exception of the sexting scene (which I thought went on for far too long) it was perfectly paced.

Gimme book two, kitten. Now.

Oddly sweet eroge LitRPG

Dating Sim LitRPG doesn't scream sweet and wholesome but here we are. There are certainly elements of an explicit nature, and the MC's particular likes mean it's going to get pretty wild as the series continues, but the core heart and soul of this book is a set of flawed people doing their best to overcome the scars of the past and make something beautiful together. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

Incredible Otome-style romance-comedy

This is easily PunishedKom's best work to date. Deep character design, relatable situations, ever-present (sometimes lewd) comedy, and a new spin on a System that I've never seen done before in a novel. If u like romance and/or comedy, this is a MUST READ.

A surprise find!

I was a bit put off by the title as I wasn't sure how serious the book was, the blurb and page count made me take the chance and I am glad I did. This was easily one of my favorite reads in a long time (wouldn't get a 5 otherwise) and I am glad I didn't judge it solely by the title. lol I am already looking forward to the next book. c:

Thoroughly enjoyed

First time reading a book by this author, glad I decided to pick it up. Just a fun book to read. Characters were great. Oliver and Mia are pretty fleshed out but still a lot of room for growth. Other characters are interesting and looking forward to their development. Will be back for book 2

Beyond Addictive!

Once you pick this book up and get 1 cheaper in, that's the end for you. It hooks you deep and doesn't let go. I personally ended up dropping all other books and binged this one all the way through.

Great character development, funny quirky moments, great attention to detail. It's got it all.

11/10!!!! GIVE ME MORE. STAT!

This is far better than it sounds, which makes it pretty decent, but Oliver is so angsty it sent my own stress through the roof. Got about halfway through.
