Rather than promising to transform your child's challenging moments into a state of zen-like serenity through magic, this book takes a refreshing lighthearted and humorous approach to the unpredictable journey of parenting, spanning from the toddler years to pre-teen tantrums. Urgell acknowledges that parenting is like a wild rollercoaster ride encompassing various stages of childhood. Instead of offering complex theories or one-size-fits-all solutions, the book provides a practical toolbox of tricks to help parents maintain their sanity in the face of broccoli battles, homework resistance, and teenage mood swings. This guide is a blend of real-life anecdotes, relatable situations, and a hefty dose of humor, making it equally relevant for parents of both young children and pre-teens. After all, laughter is the best armor against the chaos of parenthood. The author invites you to grab a comfy chair, and a soothing or caffeinated beverage (depending on the hour), and join her on a journey through the chaos, laughter and occasional eye-rolling moments of parenthood. Welcome to the world of "Cooling the Flame", Your companion for finding moments of calm amidst the parenting storm, making it a must-read for any parent looking to navigate the delicate dance of sippy cups, school assignments, and, of course, those notorious tantrums.

I am re-reading this book, because I need a refresher course. This is the best parenting book I've ever read, and probably the only one I ever needed to read. It will not be applicable to most family situations, but it is excellent. This should be on the bookshelf of every school counsellor, along w/every parent dealing w/children w/behaviour problems regardless of where it stems from.
This is a fantastic book for those of us who have an explosive child. It explains why the standard parenting approach of choices/consequences/consistency isn't/hasn't working for this particular child (when it has worked for all the others). Laura explains a comprehensive approach to working through problems differently and teaching our children how to work with/through frustration in a calm and humorous manner.
Getting to a new level of understanding and action, Laura Urgell presents some new solutions for any parent that struggles with the a child that is lacking in skills to manage difficult feelings like anger or frustration. It's a quick, easy read with easy to implement plans and realistic scenarios. This book was an easier reading book, which is good for me with this kind of topic. Wasn't too wording, in that I could understand what the author was talking about.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I hate books that do not think of children as people with their own feelings and thoughts. This book is very respectful to children while understanding the frustrations of the parents as well. This book may be particularly relevant in our 21st century world and the world our children are growing up in today. A must read!
Having a house of 6, ranging from 3-18, this book is welcomed to my literary rotation of tools to use during my Warden duties running my family camp. Packed with an arsenal of ideas to defuse and apply methods behind parental madness when dealing with our house of multiple personalities. Anger is a huge issue and this guide helps you get through a lot of questions on how to handle the situations in nonproductive behavior. Well written and I enjoyed how the author is direct and to the point within her writing. It’s a No Holds Barred approach to anger management for our Children. Highly recommended from me to all parents.

I just finished “Cooling the Flame,” and it came at a perfect time when I was struggling with my 4-year-old boy as his daycare tells me that there are some behavioral issues. I was skeptical when I first started reading, but the book spoke to me like a friend would. It gave me tons of practical tips that have already begun to make a huge impact both at home and at daycare. I appreciate the author’s insight and sharing her experience. I recommend this to all parents and caregivers. It will come in super handy!
As a single dad, I found this book to be a great resource. The author provides strategies that seem to help my kid get out of their anger and into a more calm space. Within a couple days, we were understanding each other better. I definitely recommend to any parent that’s struggling.
I picked up this book because my grandkids can be a handful sometimes and I know my adult child struggles- I wanted to check it out. After reading it, I am now buying them a copy because I truly feel it will help them. The author does a great job of being pragmatic, funny and staying on point.
Easy to read and follow. Respectful of children and an inspiring take on how to be more proactive in stressful situations. Highly recommend to all parents!
