Sanctuary #5

Hoards and Harbors Part 2

Rate this book
One of my worst nightmares came to fruition, and I was separated from some of my guys. Not knowing their fate left me in a state of constant anxiety. We were determining our next move and waiting for the hordes to pass only added to the stress of the unknown. Of course, leaving the prison and embarking on our next journey was also fraught with additional dangers. Once again, our eyes were fixed on returning home to Sanctuary. *** Trigger Warning since this is a post-apocalyptic, why choose romance; violence and all that entails are mentioned.*** This is part two of a two-part book. Books must be read to experience the correct effect.

I will still continue with this series BUT I hope maybe one day author sees my review:

Please, less their family history and reminiscing their past, it got so exhausting I started to skip those segments.

I really wanted to read about planning what to do next with the vice president. I want real action and shit going down.

Also, we are 5 books in- we only are told their group play but I wanna read about their group smexy times in detail. About h discovering her sexuality.

I just feel we got all this family history in all those books while we should have gotten their relationship development emotionally AND physically.

And plot! There are great snippets of plot but it gets buried behind the mundane everyday shit we don’t care in that detail.

Basically

Action
Plotline
Sex
Romance
Emotions

But, still ai enjoyed this series so far and it is really good. I just hope author will cut some things down and give space to actual plot line what is stellar! It just needs development.

🔶 another man added to their harem ( 7 men now)

Also that is a bit too many imo. I hope we will stay to that and no more men added 😅

So yeah part 2 really was just a continuation of part one with all the slow mundane stuff that doesn't do much for the plot. Getting all the backstories in detail for the very larger character list just slowed everything way down and seemed rather pointless to get the story going forward. Then you add in all the descriptions of basic domestic stuff and I found myself skipping quite a bit. Will I continue on with the series, I'm undecided but by the time the next book is released I will probably have forgotten everything from this last book.

Did i devour this book? Yes.
Was i so surprised to wake up and see part 2 had been released? Also, yes.
Did i love this book? Yes, again.

The good -
Its back! The guys are back.
Avery is still a badass bish and i love her
The evil twin did not make an appearance
Ari - i mean, this guy 🤌🏻 can he just join already?
Zeke showing Avery just how much he is with her. That maaan.. lawd. His mouth.

Bj and Avery’s relationship is what i wish i had with a sibling if i had one. They are truly bffs and care about each other so deeply.

The weird-
The twin sitch / i dont want to spoil anything but i questioned this. It had a very soap opera-y vibe and listen, i love this series and i am here for avery adding all the men to her growing group, but how many more weird twin plot additions are we adding? Ill take them, i just need to know.

The sad-
BJ - what happened to him just hurt my heart bc BJ is truly a standout character and deserves nothing but the best. I hope his guardian angel continues to watch over him.

As much as i hate emery, i wanted more of her drama from her mouth and not in memories or stories of her. Im including this under the sad bc i really would have liked that emery drama 😅😅

Overall, this was a good read. I felt like there was a lot of filler and it’s setting us up for the next one. I wish we could see more with the guys and not just the smutty stuff, just interactions and whatnot. There are so many of them, that I am sure it is hard but I miss some of them. I wanted more of Axel and Easton. Maybe some King action.. something.

Regardless, I am and will forever be a fan.

I Love These Books. This One Was A Little Too “Slow”

I really like SM Oliver’s “Sanctuary Series Books” Yes you have to suspend disbelief…I mean, come on, it’s the “end of the world as we know it” and flesh eating zombies are roaming around taking over everything. But if you enjoy a good contemporary RH with a dash of horror and “weird” you’ll enjoy this series, IMO.

**SPOILERS**

Ari pretty much proclaims toward the beginning of the book that he wants to date Avery too…and see if their chemistry can lead to a relationship…even though her plate seems overflowing -lol-

The guys split up (including Avery with her team) and they come across a MASSIVE luxury boat. While they’re all taking different parts of the boat they realize there are VERY FEW SURVIVORS!

Avery and her men are furious. Because the “big wigs” more or less barricaded “themselves in the boat area that had the most amenities and food and living supplies. After Avery gives the stuck up, know it all, a-s.s (and his dumber than a plastic Barbie doll) fiancé the “run down” they pack what they can salvage and prepare to board the helicopter to get them all home.

Ari is taking things REALLY SLOW…he’s announced his intentions towards Avery, but hasn’t spent almost any time with her. Outside taking care of the kids, and a few missions, no date per se. But you can tell it’s going to be explosive when Ari and Avery finally get together.

When they loaded the copter and found survivors, the last person that Avery expected to see (heck Zeke too) was Zeke’s ex-fiancé that dumped him when she believed Emerson slept with Zeke even though he didn’t. She didn’t trust him. Avery is a good sport about it all (heck she’s a saint. The girl is like always so level headed and understanding). She tells Zeke she understands that he can’t just rid himself of 15 years of shared history with his ex, and that’s ok, as long as his future is with her. Zeke whole heartedly agrees…and then has to dodge and avoid his clingy, whining, annoying ex (she can’t do anything. And expects Zeke to do everything for her and protect her, she’s delusional - acting as if they never were apart.

A conspiracy is uncovered, when the copters pilot informs Avery’s dad and uncle that they were 1. Either supposed to leave them amongst the infected on the ship 2. Or, get rid of them by pushing them out the copter or something, either way neither was supposed to make it safely back to sanctuary. The “fake figure head” VP and his goons want to get rid of Sanctuaries leadership so they can take over. They’re no longer content just “ sharing” people and help, they want it all. But apparently that’s a story for another day a.k.a. another book…

**THOUGHTS**

This was my least favorite Sanctuary Series book thus far. Don’t get me wrong, Oliver continues to spin a great tale, writes well, and gives us cool, protective, awesome heroes and heroines, and evil, corrupt heinous villains. The problem for me in this book stemmed mostly from the fact that NOTHING REALLY HAPPENED. Other than rescuing the boat survivors, encountering Zeke’s whiny co-dependent ex, and learning about the conspiracy…this book just felt like “filler.” Just stuff to “get out of the way” to make room for the “ action” that’s to come…and the potential additional harem member, music star, Ari.

Avery and her guys hung out, took care of their growing brood of children, talked strategy and next steps with Avery’s dad and uncle in the war room, and that was that. The conclusion was “bittersweet,” as they all looked at stars and tried to push the thoughts of the oncoming conflict/fight with the VP and un-loyal soldiers living in the bunkers.

So in conclusion; read this book so you aren’t totally lost when book 6 comes out. Just don’t expect a very exciting or drama filled plot. Plus (I know they have lots of kids) but the “steam factor” is much reduced in this book as well. Again, Oliver writes well…just thought this wasn’t her best offering.

P.S. it pissed me off really pissed me off when she said at THE VERY END “We might not succeed in beating those who wished us harm. At some point WE WERE GOING TO LOSE…..”

Hellooooooo does anyone 1. Feel that very anti-Avery and 2. Not to want to read book 6 if her guys, or kids or even she just LOSE. Get captured, lose!!!

Great way to end the year off!
I love anything this author produces. I can't wait to see what Avery and Co get up to in the upcoming books. It will be well worth the wait. I cherish reading all about their adventures. The characters in this series are my comfort characters that I will always be missing. I see multiple rereads in my future. Highly recommend that you read this series!!

this whole series was a 5 star for me the only negative thing is I almost died from the misspellings halfway thru but it was an overall great read I personally loved it some people may not like it because Avery is " can't do wrong" or " best at everything" character but i paid no mind to it

This series is possibly the best post apocalyptic series I’ve ever read. I still talk about it weeks after finishing it. It has started my rabbit hole free fall into post apocalyptic/dystopian series and I am hooked. Also with that being said I haven’t found a series yet that is as good as this one. I loved the found family, survival, and of course the spice of the book! While the spice was spicing, the plot did not disappoint!!! It’s equal parts plot as spice and well, that’s a perfect combination in my opinion. Just read it already! You will not be disappointed I swear!

My god … speechless is what I am!!!

‼️note there are major spoilers because im terrible with keeping secrets and talking in half truths

The author has done it again… ripped out my heart, chucked it around it a few times and glued it back together 😂😂

I devoured the part 1 and 2 in a few days. Having ensured that the ending of part 2 wasn’t a cliffhanger

*for those who HATE cliffhangers or endings, I will gladly say, all is wrapped up and they are safe and sound however you are left with so many questions of the threats they face.

You have been warned for spoilers

⚠️⚠️⛔️⛔️⚠️⚠️

My heart is absolutely shattered about BJ. I’m trying to think what this boy has done to deserve this !! All I pray is he either finds a way to live happily with his condition of being blind or he does regain his sight back, either fully or partially.

However in saying that, whilst i question if it was a good or bad character development for BJ… it does raise the theories on how those with disabilities live in an apocalypse, especially with being blind. How does he protect himself? How does he contribute to the community? What does his life now look like? All I’m praying for is a happy and safe one please !

This book has made me cry so much !!!
First with BJ
Then with Avery’s mums twin! Like my gosh! My heart strings were being pulled hard in this book

I absolutely loved the book … however I agree it should come with a warning of don’t read this late at night when you are reading the scene with the Nightmare on Elm Street song and killer people !! For someone with an overactive imagination… it certainly took me awhile to get to bed lol

My only issue was the long reminiscing of the past when I felt like it didn’t add much to the story or the development of characters.

But Avery’s men are freaking hot 🥵🥵🥵

In the next book I need :
more group scenes !!!
Emery being kicked to the bunker
A WEDDING!!!!!!!
Dad, ave and BJ going fishing (no emery)

Aghhh I need the 6th book now please 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Final book

I’m so disappointed in where this went. The first two books I really enjoyed, but four and now five just didn’t work for me at all. Huge portions of the book were telling, so much time spent on characters telling stories from their past or telling us the info to wrap things up. Why didn’t we get shown this? Why did we need more of the past? What was with wasting time with the cruise ship and her mom’s twin and Zeke’s ex? It was just completely absurd and felt like it moved nothing in this story forward. After investing so much in Sylvia and then Mike in earlier books to have them be completely absent in this one was just a disappointment. Makes nervous to dive into other series by this author.

When the good has to fight evil both alive and unlive to just stay alive

I really love this series and am sad that the n3xt book isn't out yet. My heart broke for BJ. And I hope his condition is temporary. I still think that Ave thinks she better then anyone else. Even tho I love reading about their past it also makes me think of the 1st book. They changed the narrative with Trevor and honestly I didn't like that. It's like cause he did he wrong let's make him different then what was said at 1st. Because it was always Trevor Bj And Emery til she did something else. Corbin and Wyatt always was a pain. And they didn't get along. Now we see them always together did things cause they are together. And as far as the packages I'm not sure that would ever happen. The military is serious not saying there isn't pranks but to these extents I doubt it but it was great to read gave me some laughs. They other thing was when she was getting the info about the injured b3fore BJ they said Simon one of Sylvia's men had been injured very seriously and had just woken up but yet he was there on the ship with the rest of them I got confused. Also what happened to the kids Roman and them. They were suppose to come back and they had their dog too but we haven't heard anything about them after they rescued people from the prison. Did they go for them. Did the go to the Sanctuary are we going to hear more about them. I wanna knkw how Roman and the others are. Anyways not important. Even with my rambling about this stuff it's probably one of the b3st series I've read and this author is so good. She bring out the laughs the sadness the inability in some of the character. It's what writers are suppose to do. Make you feel all kinds of ways. Even if it's ment to be one way or another reads have their own feelings lol. I love this series. I wish I knew how many books this was going to be. I cant wait for the next one to come out. Please enjoy this. Don't take my rants seriously cause this really is a great series. I hope it comes in paperback I want to buy it bit only when completed.

I have such mixed feelings about this series by this point. I can't wait to see what happens next. But I can't say that I actually liked this book. The overall plot is so stretched out that, at times, it feels like nothing is happening. We got so much inner thoughts and reminiscence in the middle of a conversation that I often forgot what was happening in the present and who's talking. It also felt like the same old song as much of the previous books.

Avery is the saviour yet again. Because of course, in a room full of military men with guns, she is the only one who can disarm someone holding a hostage... There are now quite a few times where she is in danger right in the middle of her men, but no one is helping her. This was maybe a way to make her more of a strong independent badass, but it doesn't work when the situation makes no sense. But let's not forget the mandatory "shutting down of all emotions" first. This phrase is used so often that it's bordering on ridiculous by now. Along with "I can't break down now."

She continues to be the perfect perfection that she is. We've seen her look the other way when all the other evil women hate her and talk lies upon lies about her. Well, in this book, she will turn the other cheek and disregard being physically assaulted by yet another ex (by this point it shouldn't be a surpise that every ex that is mentioned so far, finds their way to the fmc and her guys). Because she's just that morally superior.

I do find the world the author has created and the many well developed characters intriguing. The writing is good and interesting enough to keep me reading even with all the things that have started to annoy me in the last 2 books. The found family, the community, and diversity build into these books are mostly what keeps me reading. I hope the next books bring more plot development, but I'll be there for the ridiculous drama that will surely follow.

And because I don't think I've mentioned this before - I think the covers of all the books are gorgeous.

This is my follow up review after finishing this series (which does not in any way feel complete!). Where is the closure?? Yes we find out the villain, but there is no definitive plan or follow through to neutralize the parties involved. And Avery has some unfinished business from some of the rescues and one of her maybe men. I started this series after it came highly recommended and feel so let down.

Add to that the poor narration. I originally gave it 3 stars, but it got so bad that anyone not able to read along would be potentially lost or confused because the AI narration referred to Avery as “avenue” sometimes when she was referred to as Ave by other characters. There are plenty of other instances where AI completely mangled the narration, leading to confusion and having to stop and go back to read what was actually meant to be read.

Not to mention the grammatical mistakes. Punctuation occurs for a reason and should be used correctly. Incomplete sentences when not making a power statement are not ok. Use of the wrong word type (adjective vs adverb, etc) also not good. All of this should have been caught in editing. For me, it takes me out of the story while reading while my brain tries to determine how the author meant it to be read.

Overall, it had a lot of potential but only met average standards when it could have been phenomenal.

I’m Sad I Can’t Give This Series 5 stars

The story in this series is amazing so far. This would be a five star read if it wasn’t for the editing issues. They throw me out of the story. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read way worse and that’s why I only deducted 1 star. I highly recommend this series and I will be eagerly anticipating the next book. I would say if the author is having them professionally edited, they are decently edited, though I’m not sure they’ve had more than one pass, so I’m not sure if they don’t just have some thorough alpha readers, they should follow up with a professional proofreader for clean up. There are too many missing words and misplaced punctuation incidents. There are a few places where I had to reread because who was doing what or what was going on wasn’t quite clear also, which an editor should catch. Otherwise, this is an almost 5 star series.

Loved it - and hope get a follow on series

This series has repeatedly kept me up until the early hours, as it's so addictive. There's no exception with this book.

From the outset, I was on the edge of my seat for these characters, who I have grown to love throughout this series. Although there are always some that you love to hate, like Emery, the evil twin!!

I've enjoyed the journey this wonderful author took me on to get here. And I very much hope SM Olivier will gift us additional books for this series, in time, as hinted at.

I 100% recommend this series, and the very talented author.
It's a series that has really made an impression, in a good way, with the FMC, MMCs and other good guys now having a place in my heart.

Really hoping the author considers selling the ebooks as a box set, so I can afford to buy them.

Thank you SM Olivier, for an amazing rollercoaster ride with Avery and her great guys.

really good

Sm you are an amazing writer, but it takes for ever to come out with the last book in your series *sigh*. I’m waiting on Peyton path series, Gifted Connection series and now the last one of this series I hope. So please don’t make me wait too long.

This book and the last 4 I just read was amazing. I wonder how many guys she is going to end up with lol. I do like Ari and Ben. I do NOT like her sister Em at all. I’m sorry, but i would not forgive her at all for what she had done to Ave . Just no way you can come back from all that she’s done, that’s just evil 👿.

I love that you get kids, baby, animals, in the story, but it sad too because, you get lost loved ones and friends or co-workers. It’s steamy, jealousy, action, drama, violence, her POV only wish I could have the guys too😉.

I feel sorry for Ave , because all she has to deal with, with the guys exes that is where a lot of the drama comes from.

Happy reading

Obsessed!

This book was amazing! I really wish I had a way to find out if there is going to be another one because the ending was left open there were so many questions unanswered I am obsessed with this series and now I have to find something like it because I know I will go into a book slump! That’s how amazing this book is Avery never got on my nerves I do wish that she had more time with each guy so I can fall in love with them a little bit more.
But I need there to be another book for Avery and her men. I don’t see an ending coming in the next book either I would love for them to be just as long as this one.
I 100% love this series. I think you need to give it a try. I do believe that there were errors, but they were nothing that you couldn’t overlook and again these would make fantastic audiobooks with real narrators, and they would do fantastic if we were able to see what was going on in the men’s head but all in all I recommend this series.

Yay!! Another instant hit to entice us...

Emotion ranges take on a totally different meaning in this book.

The book picks up where part one left off... But the hits, the laughs, the intimacy, the fights and the love just keep coming.

This book was packed with so much and you cannot help but cherish each moment, each page and each interaction...

The twists, the fight scenes are intense and the interactions blow your mind and I cannot count the amount of times the Kindle needed to be put down to message my book bestie.

No more details because #spoilers but I will say this was just as enjoyable if not more enjoyable then the last

No cliff hanger at the end of this book so the characters are left in a good place ... well as good a place as they can be...until next time.

I really enjoyed the whole series, the guys and Avery were great. I liked the dynamic and the post-apo situation, which was quite believable. So I'm just disappointed and excited? At the same time.
This was supposed to be the last book, however, I still have a bunch of questions - SPOILER AHEAD
And it just bugs me. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the books, I would be glad if they doesn´t ended and at the end it says "The End (For Now)" but I don't like unfinished things. :D Who can stand the wait?

Another 5⭐️

This is one of my favorite series. I can’t wait to see where Avery’s story takes her. Book 4 introduces new, important characters. I typically have a preference towards multi 1st POV but Avery’s story is so great that I couldn’t care less about any other characters thoughts 🤣 I can’t wait to see how those story lines play out! Also…. So. Many. Characters. The list in the beginning really helps!

❗️Spoilers Below❗️

The cruise ship scene was amazing & so creatively written. Definitely a scene that I won’t forget!
Also, I really like to see an RH that continues to grow with outsiders. I’ve not seen it often, but SM Olivier did a great job! I will be watching FB very closely for the next book to drop! 👀

What the heck!?! So, I knew going into this series was the last book and I was expecting it to wrap the story up since it came out in 2023, but it doesn’t do that. If anything, it starts more issues since we finally know who’s behind a lot of chaos from the previous book but then we just end. It just kind of makes me mad after so much work put into reading this series for it to just end like this and then there’s no closure for a lot of the big things. I would say there was probably another book or two planned but just never ended up happening, and it’s been over a year since this one came out.

Wow

I really love this series, and each book just gets better. I know there is more to come, and I am looking forward to that. Thank you for no cliffhanger ending.

Lots of questions that still need to be answered. Liking that Avery is pushing back a bit on adding to her men. I didn't think I wanted Ari but he has grown on me. Lots to explore with the bunker, crazy ex's, kids, new people, and family drama.

Looking forward to all of that but feel it ended in a very satisfying way and I will try to be very patient for the next book.

Amazing

This series continues to build, the world post apocalypse and the characters surviving the aftermath. Fiction, yes but it mirrors truth. Evil abounds in every society, and in the fall battling not only the infected but also those who covet power and control are challenges being faced. I love the story of Avery and Sanctuary but deeper than that is what would happen when the face of society is destroyed and checks and balances no longer exist. It’s not just a fight for survival but a dawn of a new world. I’m here for every moment.

Though I’m sad this book is over, I’m so relieved to know the series isn’t coming to an end. Honestly, I’ll be happy if I’m still reading this series 5 more books from now on. I love it that much. Action, exciting action, adventures that have you feeling on edge, drama, never ending love between the families and main characters, this series literally has everything you couple hope to want in a book. I’ve reread every book multiple times and will continue to each time a new book releases.

Still a good story just lost steam

I got super invested when this series started. I still like it and will continue on with it but I have not felt a huge connection to the hoards and harbors. Sometimes feels a little to preachy. But all and all good story. Avery finally gets reunited with all her men. Ari while still not official will clearly be added soon. And it sounds like the boys want a nice little wedding. The bunker is bad... shocker... just saying that was no surprise.

Noooooo

Please don't tell me the story ends here. I will be so sad if it does. I want to find out if that Evil man and his minions get their just desserts. I want Ari to be with her and the guys. I want to find out what happens to her sister and whether or not she changes. I want to find out how the new family members that are actually her flesh and blood get along with the rest of the people there and if they're able to form relationships with her. This story cannot possibly be over there still too much of it to tell

Beyond Devastated!

I went into this book thinking it was the last one only to find out it's not! I was wondering with so much going on how it was going to get wrapped up with this book welp it's because it's not. Aside from that this series is absolutely amazing. The last few chapters of this book had me laughing so hard I was almost crying! This book that has darker content had a lot of humor. I can't wait to see where Ari and Avery's relationship goes. I can't wait for the next book!

Exciting

This series is excitement from the first book to this one, hopefully not the last in this series. Avery is a fun, sexy badass character that I wish I knew as well as her 7 boyfriends. SM Olivier has written a series that draws you and makes you want to know what happens next in this highly entertaining series. I’m hoping, praying, wishing I don’t have to wait to long for the next installment of the Sanctuary Survivors! Thank you SM, even your acknowledgment page is entertaining and sweet.

I enjoyed this series...but

I really enjoyed this series and stayed up far to late multiple nights to see it through but I'm not 100% content with the ending, I still have to many questions left unanswered. I feel like it's ended on book 3 instead of 4. I know the author had. left it so that they can return if they ever decide but it's just not sitting fully right with me. I will re check every now and then to see if a new book has been released as I would like it to finish off in a better way
