As I type this I am about to turn 70 years of age. My birthday, July 3,is the same day and same year as Alfy Franks who led the work in India for many years and has continued with his wife Addy to be two of our most faithful coworkers and friends. h is book which we have been working on for some years is written specifically for India. Due to my own stupidity (there was no sin involved) and my unwillingness to pay a bribe to Bombay customs, my name ended up on the persona non grata list and this has kept me all these years from visiting my beloved India. Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of copies of my books, Literature Evangelism, here's Dynamite in Literature, Revolution of Love, Hunger for Reality, No Turning Back and Out of the Comfort Zone have gone out in many languages all over the country. Letters and now emails have poured in from all over India. I have tried to answer all of them, mixing it with prayer.Do not expect this book to fl ow like most books. It is more of a compendium of articles and messages mainly by me; and also from Introduction910 Drops from a Leaking Tapa few others whom I really want to thank. Actually I have written more for this book than any other except Literature Evangelism. My other books were all largely taken from my tapes and then reworked by me and an editor. You might want to go to the contents' page and just read a chapter that seems to grab you. If you tick it off after you read it. . .and read, say a chapter a day or even a week or month, then some day you may finish it all, but don't worry if you don't. h e chapter on "Pain" or "7 Global Scourges" for me is worth all the effort we have put into the book. You can also copy anything you want and pass it on, with permission from Authentic Media. Over these 40 years my second book, Hunger for Reality, has brought me more than 25,000 letters; I have read and answered most of them. h e letters keep coming even now and what I have said in my books is still relevant and important today. All these 53 years in Christ I have tried to live out an hour by hour basis which I have shared in this book. I hope and pray it will be a blessing to you and your friends. I have mentioned about other books which I hope you will try and read many of them. I hope you will also spend some time visiting my web www.georgeverwer.comThanks.In His Grace and grip,George Verwer.
A collection of messages across decades that definitely were more powerful in person than in book form. I was hoping for stories and illustrations of God's work through OM so was disappointed there.
There were some good thoughts throughout though. One I really liked had to do with the importance of discipline.
"I want to be very honest. I learned from Billy Graham, my spiritual father, that unless you are ready for a disciplined life then forget your Christian commitment. You can get blessed in this meeting, you can be filled with the Spirit, but if you don't learn something of daily discipline, you'll never amount to anything for Jesus. I have had young people all over the world tell me, that they do not have disciplined lives. Discipline means doing what you know you should do rather than what you feel like doing."
Another interesting chapter was on actions and reactions. He listed ten reasons not to overreact. For someone who can often overreact it was a very eye-opening message. Here is why it is best not to overreact.
1)I may be wrong 2)It makes the other person over defensive 3)It is fleshly and not of the Spirit 4)It breaks unity 5)It can hurt others 6)It is not biblical 7)It shows a wrong concept of God - forgetting that he is sovereign, in control 8)It shows a wrong concept of man - we are made in the image of God, people must be handled properly. 9)It shows impatience -"Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger." 10) Christ our example, did not over react
Fantastic quick read from the founder of Operation Mobilisation. What a life he has lived. A powerful servant of God. Quick anecdotes and biblical exhortations. Encouraging and challenging!
I briefly met George Verwer a decade ago at a Moody Bible Institute Founder's week. It is hard to believe that such an unassuming, down-to-earth guy could have had such an amazing impact on foreign missions. That is what makes this compilation of messages that he has given so helpful. You don't have to be anyone special to participate in world missions.
George gives some of his best insights from the last 50 years. Operation Mobilisation has sent out thousands of young people to countries all over the world to share the Good News. O.M. learned a lot about missions and a lot about preparing people for outreach. All Christians should share George's love for the lost. All Christians could benefit from at least some of these 27 chapters. I found the two chapters on prayer meetings especially helpful. Other areas of my Christian life were challenged too. I've already shared some of this information with others. This book is a keeper.
A collection of different messages from George Verwer's ministry focusing on Christian living and, in particular, missions. The book gives some great historical insights into the life of George Verwer and the beginnings of OM. George Verwer's life is exemplary, but not aloof. He admits and talks about his own struggles with sin and yet also shows the need for living a holy life. Both a challenging and encouraging book for Christians, especially for missionaries.
A wide range of interview, sermons and seminar notes from George Verwer. Lots of powerful, easy to read material here relating to missions, but I would sooner recommend one of his other titles, such as Hunger for reality.
I love the title. As usual George is very honest and transparent. He has profound things to say, but says them in simple easy to understand ways. This is a collection of various talks and writings, so there is some repetition.
The book gives a mixture of different messages from over 52 years of ministry from George Verwer. It is good stuff what helps you to get exited again about the Gods command to GO. The radical message in some chapters is giving me a boost.
A must read book. Very well written and it describes how the "Operation Mobilization"(OM) was found. Trust me you will not disappoint reading this book.
