I've been working my way through Fr. Mike Schmitz "Bible in a Year" and have been using the Navarre Bible as my companion. In terms of accessible annotation for a Catholic reader, it's the best out there, from what I understand.
Navarre's approach to St. John's Gospel doesn't disappoint, and every passage is explained and placed in its exegetical context.
My only critique is that there is so much to unpack in this Gospel that, at times, the broad stroke approach of Navarre can't explore the richness of some important passages. For example, I recall being a bit surprised that there really wasn't any commentary around Pilate's famous quote, "What is truth?" But it's understandable given the need to maintain readability with crisp commentary.
Highly recommend.
