In the New York Times bestselling tradition of Linda Lael Miller and Diana Palmer, comes R.C. Ryan's stunning new western trilogy about the MacKenzie brothers of Copper Creek, Montana.

First love always burns hotter . . .

Ash MacKenzie broke his share of hearts when he left Copper Creek all those years ago and struck out on his own. Tall, tough, and proud. That's how Brenna always remembered him, and from the looks of things, he hasn't changed much. Once, she thought he could save her—whisk her away from her rough childhood home and start fresh together. Now she knows better . . .

Ash isn't planning to stick around town long. As soon as he uncovers the truth about his father's death and makes sure the family ranch is safe, he'll be back out on his own. And then he runs into Brenna Crane. It broke his heart to leave her once—a herd of stampeding horses couldn't make him do it again. But Brenna has made a new life for herself, one that doesn't include him. Now he just has to convince her to give their first love a second chance.

When I was first reading I felt the book was all over the place, I wasn't sure whose point of view we were getting. Then finally Ash got to talk to breena and things started to get okay, I loved that he was so sweet to her when he first met her and brought her home. Hopefully in the other books we find out who the killer is.

Terrific start to the new series and great second chance story. Ash is the oldest son of Bear MacKenzie. The story opens when he is nineteen years old, and shows a young man trying his best to earn his father's respect and approval. Unfortunately, he seems to be fighting a losing battle, and the latest confrontation is the final straw. Ash leaves home after a blowup with his father, determined to make his own way in the world. The story then picks up a decade later. Ash has his own ranch in Wyoming, and though he is struggling, he is proud of what he has accomplished. Then he gets word that his father has been murdered and immediately makes plans to go home. The first person he sees when he arrives is Brenna, his former best friend and the girl he'd loved and left behind.

Brenna had grown up with an abusive drunk for a father, living on the ranch next door to the MacKenzies. She met Ash when she was eight years old, and he became the most important thing in her life. She was heartbroken when he left without a word and worked hard to move on with her life. Her father deserted the family when she was young, leaving just her and her mother to keep the ranch going. Her mother died when Brenna was sixteen, leaving her alone to keep the ranch going. Brenna is also a talented sculptor who is slowly making a name for herself. She has recently become engaged to a "city fella."

When Ash is informed of his father's death, he is in shock. He always thought that he had time to reconcile with Bear and show him what he had done with his life. He immediately goes home to be with his family. I loved seeing his realization of how much he had truly missed his family and his home. Though his initial intention is to stay as long as he is needed then return to his own ranch, he begins to realize that his heart belongs in Copper Creek. I loved his reactions to how much things have changed since he's been gone. He's almost shocked that Whit is no longer the kid he left behind, but a grown man. Like the rest of the family, he's stunned by the news that Bear had another son that no one knew about. His reactions are understandable. He also carries a lot of guilt for staying away so long and allowing his pride to keep him from staying in touch with his family. As the days go on, Ash is determined to make amends with them.

I loved seeing the renewal of Ash and Brenna's relationship. He had thought of her often, expecting that she was probably married and had children by now. He's stunned to find out that she's still single (though engaged). I loved their first meeting as he first saves her puppy, then saves her from being hit by a speeding truck. Both of them experience a flare of their old attraction. Knowing that she's engaged to someone else, Ash tries to resist it. Brenna is not happy about the resurgence of her feelings, because of her engagement and because she wouldn't want to risk getting her heart broken again. When they experience another near miss, Ash's protectiveness kicks in, and he is determined to keep her safe. I enjoyed seeing them first renew their friendship as they shared memories from their past and caught up on each other's lives. Brenna has some issues with her fiancé, whose jealousy is pretty blatant. He exhibits some uncomfortably controlling behavior, and a confrontation with him makes Brenna realize the truth about her relationship with him. I loved seeing the differences between her fiancé and Ash and adored Ash for his support of her. I loved seeing them grow closer as they work together to discover who is after her and why. I loved Ash's big moment at the end as he makes a huge decision about his future. His awkwardness and vulnerability show just how much Brenna means to him. The epilogue was sweet and romantic.

The suspense of the story was really good. There were two mysteries going on. The first involves the murder of Bear MacKenzie. There are no witnesses and no clues, leaving his family searching for answers. Is it someone from his past with a grudge against him? Could it be one of their friends and neighbors or someone further back in Bear's past? Then there is the problem of the attacks on Brenna. She isn't the type of person to have enemies, so who could it be and why? Does it have something to do with her father, who recently contacted her, claiming to want a reconciliation? I loved Brenna's compassion for her father and her desire not to hold onto the past. There are several possible suspects, and there are good reasons to suspect each of them. I had an idea of who it was, and I turned out to be right, but the story behind it was unexpected. The final confrontation was intense and had me on the edge of my seat until it was resolved. I loved seeing how everyone pulled together to make it happen.

A theme that ran throughout the book was the importance of family. The family is stunned to discover the existence of another son, and Ash and Whit's reactions are completely understandable. Bear's wife Willow seems to arrive at acceptance much faster than her sons, thanks to some discussion with her father-in-law. Griff's arrival at the ranch is especially shocking when they see his resemblance to Bear but also makes it easier for them to accept him. I ached for Griff and his feelings of loss and confusion. I really enjoyed seeing the family come together. There are some pretty fun scenes of the three sons together as the work out their relationships. The bar scene was fantastic as they stood together against outsiders. I also loved seeing the way that Brenna had become part of the family since the first time Ash brought her home when they were kids. The MacKenzies were so different from her own experience. I loved the way that they all came together to help Brenna after the attack at her ranch. I also loved how Ash and Griff and the rest learned more about Bear and the person he was and how it changed their perceptions of him.

Though I read the books out of order, it made no difference to my enjoyment of each story. Though I knew the identity of the killer by the time I read this book, I was still able to get involved in the search for the truth.

Ash McKenzie broke hearts when left Copper Creek and he knows that just as soon as he uncovers the truth about his father’s death, he’ll be leaving town again. That is until he runs into Brenna Crane and realizes that a stampede couldn’t make him break her heart again… now he’ll just have to convince her of that in this captivating contemporary western romance.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers shivering in anticipation with suspense and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination, while the well orchestrated suspense and action adds excitement and drama. The characters are strong, compelling and invite the reader to visit Copper Creek and get to know them.

Brenna tried to move on with her life but the truth is she never stopped hoping that Ash would take her away from her troubled past and now that he’s back she knows better than to trust him but the attraction stills burns hot. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their story as Ash and Brenna tries to work out their relationship as well as find Ash’s father’s killer.

Escalating danger builds anticipation and excitement throughout the story as the it seems someone has it out for Brenna and I must say that was a bit of a surprising and exciting situation. The story has some side plots that adds depth and spice to the story and the captivating characters ensure that the reader want to know all their stories as well. I was completely caught up in the story from the beginning and I am looking forward to reading Whit’s and Griff’s story… hmmm… I can’t make up my mind which brother I like best.

The Maverick of Copper Creek was entertaining. It had a family of characters that I loved and would enjoy seeing more of them. It was full of drama, action, mystery and romance. It had a few love scenes that I skipped over. It also has lots of food that made me hungry.

Ash MacKenzie left home ten years ago because of a fight with his father. Now he has come back for his father's funeral. He left behind his best friend Brenna Crane. He has his own ranch in WyomingB now.

Brenna Crane is engaged now to someone else. Brenna works her ranch and is a artist. She had a tough childhood.

The day that Ash comes back to Copper Creek first person he sees is Brenna and someone tries to run them over. No one knows who is trying to kill them and who is the target.

With Bear MacKenzie's murder and will comes surprises for the MacKenzie family. Bear was a tough father to his two sons. He has a big Montana ranch. He left behind Willow his widow. Ash oldest son. Whit youngest. Griff surprise. Mad his father who is in a wheelchair. Myrna his long time housekeeper and cook. Brady his forman. I hope Griff and Whitt get their own book. I would love to see these characters again.

I was given this ebook to read from Net Galley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing). In return I agreed to give honest review of The Maverick of Copper Creek.

I liked the idea of the story and I have always been a fan of RR but the verbiage really threw me. for instance, oh Vern, oh Ash, oh Willow, oh Bear...over and over with the 'oh'. It was almost like it was a historical and made me think of Scarlet Ohara. The story just seemed really happy go lucky. If he is gone for 10 years, there is no resentment from the brother? Just flat out accepting a new brother without having doubts and letting him just move on in without getting to know him? After being gone for 10 years, she is just willing to forget that and drop the guy she agreed to marry without being mad he left without a word? Not my favorite BY FAR.

I wanted to like this book, i really did. The overall plot seemed interesting and the characters for the most part were all interesting / likable. But there were several major issues that ruined it for me.

The first is that I can't stand Brenna. Everyone talks about how strong and great she is to keep the ranch going. We hear time and again about how hard she works. And yet, we never actually see her doing anything. The place is in complete disrepair and she appears to be doing jack all to fix it. The most she does is muck a few stalls while the poor elderly cowboy has to do everything else. Hell, she can't even cook him a decent meal for all the work he does. Then, when times get tough, she relies entirely on the generosity of the MacKenzie family and their workers - and once again can't even provide them with food!! She doesn't even seem to take her supposed "career" as an artist very seriously. If it is the money stream that is financing the ranch why isn't she aggressively pursuing commissions, opening a gallery in town or at the very least building a website. It seems she just sits around until one of the people in town ask her for sculpture.

Next is the non-relationship she has with her fiance Chris. It seemed to be a completely unnecessary addition to the story line. The is not chemistry or even friendship between them and , thus, no internal conflict over whether to end the relationship. Brenna mentally checks out of the "relationship" the second Ash hits town. Was this supposed to be a love triangle? An obstacle they had to overcome for true love? It all seemed pointless.

Additionally, while the characters are likable, they act naive to the point of stupidity. Every time something bad happens they seem to look around bewildered asking if it could possibly be connected to the other events. Of course they are!!!! The worst is that they constantly refer to Noah as "the drifter" and yet they don't seem to find him at all shady and don't even think to mention to the sheriff that there is a random stranger now living on the land who Brenna "hired on the spot." By about the 2/3 mark I was literally screaming at the characters for being morons and greatly tempted to toss my tablet across the room in frustration.

And last, but very not least, if Brenna did not have the deed to the land this whole time then HOW THE HELL has she been legally living there?!!! Why is she paying taxes on land she doesn't legally own? If her father is still the legal owner, property taxes would be in his name. It didn't really make any sense.

I really enjoyed this! The story kept at a steady pace and was filled with love, laughter and heartache aplenty. Following the MacKenzie's, we see how family can come together even in the hardest times and can withstand the might of the storm. After suffering a loss in the family, they are left in turmoil as they are faced with the future and have to pick up and keep moving. Ash MacKenzie, after leaving years before, has come back to help his family through their loss and offer his support and make amends. When he comes riding back into town, he rides back into Brenna Crane's life, just as she is moving on. She is forced to decide wether it is worth risking her heart a second time or stay where she feels safe, even if it isn't what her heart wants.

But even as they rekindle an old relationship, they realize that someone may be after Brenna's life. After facing so much from her past, Ash knows he won't let her face this alone.

The relationships are loving and real in The Maverick of Copper Creek and I absolutely adore these two as well as the whole MacKenzie family. A clean 4.5 star rating and I would recommend this to any romance fan.

I have sure enjoyed the books that I have read by R.C. Ryan and this was no exception. This is a story of Ash MacKenzie and how he ran away from home when he was just a teenager because his father never approved of anything that he did. He had put up with all he could when he decided to leave with just the shirt on his back but unfortunately he also left his girlfriend and best friend Brenna Crane. After the murder of his father, Ash returns to Copper Creek to be with his family and see if he can return home again. This is a great story.

I enjoyed the overall story, but I did feel the relationship development was lacking. Ash had been gone for ten years with no contact with Brenna, I needed more from them in how to repair the relationship.

The Maverick of Copper Creek by R. C. Ryan is such a great book. It has a little bit of everything: mystery, murder, friendship, romance and heat.

Ash MacKenzie left home almost a decade ago because he could no longer take his father’s anger and criticism. He left behind his father, mother, brother and grandfather and his best friend, Brenna. He is determined to prove to himself and especially his father that he can make it on his own and become successful. He does not return home until he receives word that his father has been shot in the back and killed. When he gets back home, he realizes how much he has missed his family and his home and especially Brenna. He realizes that he no longer has a chance to mend things with his father, and that is one regret he will always carry with him.

Brenna remembers when Ash left her and all the heartache she felt after he was gone. She has tried to move on with her life, even going so far as to become engaged. But old feelings are hard to forget and after seeing Ash once again, Brenna realizes she has never gotten over Ash. Will they be able to get over past heartaches and have a second chance at love?

Besides the murder of Ash’s father, someone is targeting either Ash or Brenna and making attempts at their lives. They were both almost hit by a speeding car twice and a fire was set on Brenna’s ranch. Which one is the intended victim and what is the reason behind the attempts? They need to find out the answers to these questions before the murder attempt becomes successful.

The mysteries involved in the story were both carried on throughout the entire book and although I had figured out the who, I did not know the why. There were a lot of twists and turns and a lot of suspects to choose from. One of the things I liked about this book is the fact that, for a change, the police chief was very capable and is not displayed as incompetent. In so many mysteries, the police official are made to look as though they have no prior experience solving crimes. I found this refreshing.

The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. They are people that seem very real and human and they are very easy to like and care about. The MacKenzie family is very close knit and and take care of their own and those they love. That is another thing I really like about the book, the fact that there is a whole family to fall in love with and care about. Brenna realizes that, at an early age, she not only fell in love with Ash, but with the whole MacKenzie family. It is a family that you would want to be a part of or be friends with. No one knew that a third brother existed, except for Ash’s father, and I like the way he was accepted and made to feel like part of the family. This is a family that I want to learn a lot more about.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The descriptions of the ranches and ranchers and the community are very well detailed and at times I felt like I was right there, watching the activities first hand. There is a lot of action contained within the pages of the book and there is never a dull moment.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a family saga with romance and mystery. I am not sure that I would want a young adult to read this book because there is some heated romantic scenes, not too explicit but more than I feel would be appropriate for an young adult. There are three brothers that we were introduced to and I am hoping that each of them will have their own story. I enjoy reading romance books and I enjoy reading mystery books. This book is a perfect blend of both genres and I found it hard to put down. I have not read any other books by this author but I plan to pick up more of them to read.

Maybe it is because I was born in a city and grew up in a suburb, but I love a good country story to swoon over. To escape to a place where cute, sweaty, hardworking cowboys say "ma'am" and save their hearts for true love.

"He had the loose easy stride of a cowboy. His muscles, toned from years of ranching, rippled beneath the sleeves of his plaid shirt. His dark hair...."

Ok, you get it. Hot stuff.

Ash has lived through some hard times and has a mystery (or two) on his hands. With a full cast of suspicious (in my opinion) characters, I found myself constantly changing my mind as to "whodunit." I just had to find out! The more I read, the more I couldn't seem to get enough of it.

The Maverick of Copper Creek was a nice sweet read, with a twist. Gotta love that! With tears in my eyes (happy or sad....you need to find out for yourself), I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Another hot brother's story! ~ Krissy, 4 (hat tippin') stars.

~~~
There’s something about cowboys that I can’t seem to get enough of, so when the opportunity to read The Maverick of Copper Creek arose, I grabbed it both hands and sat back to enjoy the ride. This book took me back to one of my favorite cowboy states, Montana, and introduced me to a slew of new characters – and one in particular that I would like to get to know a little bit better.
When Ash MacKenzie left Copper Creek nearly a decade ago to strike out on his own, he never intended to stay gone for so long. He wanted the chance to prove himself worthy, but leaving like he did broke the hearts of many...especially Brenna Crane.
When Ash rides back into town after his father’s mysterious death, he brings back with him all the feelings that Brenna sought to bury for so many years. Ash is just the same as Brenna remembers, and seeing him again reminds her of all the things she had and lost when he left.
Leaving Brenna was the hardest thing Ash has ever done, and seeing her living her new life without him just as tough. Ash knows that he can’t risk leaving Brenna behind and breaking both their hearts again, even though he never intended to stay in Copper Creek long.
Can Ash convince Brenna to give him another chance, or will her broken heart stop her from falling all over again?
For a book that’s nearly 400 pages, The Maverick of Copper Creek felt surprisingly short. Perhaps because I was so engaged in the mystery of Bear MacKenzie’s death? Ash’s father was a larger-than-life figure around town, and his death is a blow to them all – and you get that sense easily from the exceptional writing of R.C. Ryan. I loved the vivid pictures she drew of Bear’s life and the people that he shared it with.
There were numerous secondary characters, all of whom had their own stories to tell, and all of whom made this story that much better. And while I wished at times the story had remained more focused on Ash and Brenna, I couldn’t help but enjoy the little interludes that gave insight into the thoughts of Griff and Whit, Willow and Mad, and the grizzled cowboy, Vern. Particularly Griff. I’m thrilled that his story comes next, and I will be among the first in line to read it.
The Maverick of Copper Creek was an interesting story and one that kept my attention, but I did find it a little slow-going early on. Once the story picked up, however – specifically when Ash came face-to-face with Brenna again for the first time – it became the kind of book that I wanted to spend an afternoon reading. And while I couldn’t do that (damn you responsibilities!), I did find sneaky minutes to read wherever possible. Make a cake, read a chapter while mixing. Waiting in the school pick-up line, read a chapter. Get the idea? Like cowboys in general, I just couldn’t get enough...
The Maverick of Copper Creek is the first book in the Copper Creek Cowboys series and can be read standalone and while there is no cliffhanger, there are unanswered questions. You’re going to want to come back for more. ~ Beth, 4 stars.
Review of The Maverick of Copper Creak by R.C. Ryan:
Alright, time for some honestly here...I am just breaking into the world of Western Romance. I've read quite a few but I'm still no expert for sure. That being said, this book was a nice, easy read with a sweet love story, as are most Westerns that I've read.
We'll begin with the story line. Everyone loves a "Rogue comes home to a long lost love" story. Jealousy, regret, passion, banked home fires, etc., etc. In this, our author does not disappoint. The action keeps you coming back, the love story is ever evolving, believable, and fun, and our secondary characters leave you eagerly awaiting the next book in the series (Griff's book, BTW).
Our Heroine is tough as nails and ready to take on the world. You know me and my love for a strong heroine so, of course, I bonded with Brenna immediately and hung with her to the bloody end. Never one to whine or complain, she makes for a fast moving story line that never bores. I was hard pressed to find anything I didn't enjoy about her...in fact, I can't think of a single thing.
The very same can be said for our Hero, Ash MacKenzie. A true cowboy to the very bone, his fast-acting, no non-sense way of life and love makes you long for a Montana man of your very own. *swoon* Superman is quite apt here, quite apt.
The only issue I had with this novel was a couple of cheesy lines and the overuse of "bro". This may end up just being Whit's personality and something that you just kind of get used to as the novels move along but it was almost to the point of cringe-worthy here. "Bro" and some of the rather uncomfortable and awkward dialogue can occasionally make for some areas of the book being skimmed through but what's good sticks with you, rather like Mad MacKenzie's Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
Verdict? A good book, for sure. Characters you want to invite over for dinner. A series worth watching out for and an author that's going onto my "To-Read" shelf.
This is the first book I have read by R.C. Ryan, I was a lucky winner of the second book in this series on Goodreads. I bought the first one because I like to read them in order whenever possible.
The story was very well written, it sucked me in right from the beginning. Ash MacKenzie leaves his home, his family and the girl he loves, after a fight with his father. He heads out to make it on his own in hopes to gain his fathers respect. I do not believe anyone would have guessed it would be 10 long years later, after hearing of his fathers murder, that he finally came home.
He comes back to his family ranch to help ease the pain of his grieving mother. When he gets home he finds that a lot has changed. His younger brother, Whit, is no longer a kid, but a grown man that was left to handle a family that was never fully whole after he left. He finds his father had a child he never knew about until just before his murder. Griff, the older brother who never knew their father, is on the ranch dealing with finding and losing his father all within a blink of an eye.
Then there is Brenna the girl he left behind without a word of good-bye. She in engaged to be married. But seeing Ash has her confused about her future. As the MacKenzie's try to find their fathers murderer, there are a series of events that at first seems like someone if targeting Ash as well. But they soon realize that the person being targeted is Brenna. And when Ash appoints himself her protector the whole MacKenzie family follow his lead in keeping Brenna safe. The two find themselves back where they were 10 years ago, only now they are both adults. Is there a second chance for these two...
I was sucked into this story right away. It was very well written. It left me wanting more, which thanks to Goodreads, I have after winning the second book in this series on their website. This story had everything, mystery, action, suspense and second chance love. Highly recommended!
An amazing start to a new series by R.C. Ryan. Ash MacKenzie was a first born son to one of the toughest and biggest ranchers in Montana. At age 19 after years of trying to please his father and win his approval he never seemed to find a way to make that happen. Finally after spending the night in freezing conditions out on the range only to come home to find his father still saying he's not in the right place at the right time and not doing what he should be doing he's had enough. Taking only the clothes on his back he takes off. Leaving everything including the girl who had become his best friend and who had depended on him to be there for her. Nine years later tragedy bring him home and that's where the drama and excitement really begins. This series kicks off with a murder mystery that i assume will span the series but this book also has a couples romance as well. The story begins with a explanation of Ash's separation from his family and then shoots ahead nine years and picks up with Ash coming home to deal with his father's death. He also want to see if coming home for good is the right thing for him as well as finding out if the girl he left behind is the right woman to spend forever with. The book slowly but steadily picks up and the characters find out that not only do they have the mystery of Ash's father's death but someone is out to get Ash or Brenna. You have some action, some suspense and of course some romance. You are kept wondering who the bad guys are. I had several ideas but was never sure until it was revealed. You won't be finding out what happened to Ash's father in this book but you might get some clues. I loved the characters and the intensity between Ash and Brenna and the action toward the end was intense. You feel for the characters and you might even shed a tear or two along the way. It left me with a feeling of investment in the character's and wondering what might be in store for the MacKenzie family.
You gotta love cowboys and drama and long lost love (or is it lost?) along with family drama (the really good looking kind of family drama!) and this book has all of that. But, something was missing. I think it was the connection to the characters that was missing. I mean, I love them all to pieces. Bad Ass gramps and a housekeeper who keeps said gramps in line along with two more (yes, more) hot brothers who are also sweet and nice and work on the ranch. Also, food. Food is really nice.
So this book begins with murder. (That makes you interested, doesn’t it?) It’s the murder of small town royalty and the father of these three boys. One of the boys, out main one as a matter of fact got tired of living under his father’s critical eye and left all he had ever known to make something of himself. He left without a goodbye to the only girl he ever loved. His best friend. Also known as the main girl in this book. Brenna and Ash. If these two aren’t soul mates, I don’t know who is. *throws up hands in an exasperated manner*
I love the whole down-home feel with the ‘we’re all in this together’ front everyone puts on. I also love the fact that everyone is so genuine. With all the genuine feel-good feelings, one would think that I would like (or at least connect) to all the characters more than I did.
Some of it was a tad bit too nacho like for me, such as the rather excessive use of ‘bro’ but other than that, I really have no complaints.
OH! And I really want to make the mashed potatoes at the end of the book. FOOOOOOD!
Happy reading
I’m not much of an R.C. Ryan fan but was pleasantly surprised with this book. This story is full of sexy cowboys, action packed adventure, and a loveable family who is learning to laugh again after tragedy strikes.
Ash left home years ago after a big blow-up with his father. Not only did he leave his family’s ranch but his anger and pride caused him to lose touch with his family and best friend Brenna and left them wondering where he landed and if he was surviving. It takes his father’s murder for his family to track him down and Ash immediately returns to their fold to help his loved ones through their sadness. Ash is a hard-working, smooth-talking cowboy who is able to get in touch with his emotions. He knows he lost years with his loved ones because of his anger and pride and is determined to make up for lost time. I could feel his unrestrained sadness over losing those years and never being able to apologize to his father.
Brenna is a talented sculptor who is working hard to save her own ranch when her first love returns for his father’s funeral. She realizes she does forgive Ash for his untimely departure all those years ago and still has very strong feelings for him. Ash and Brenna are quickly thrown together when it becomes obvious someone is out to hurt Brenna and Ash wants to protect her.
Ash and Brenna have exploding chemistry and fit together perfectly. I really enjoyed watching them find their way back to each other. The book’s secondary characters have me intrigued. I can’t wait to read more about Griff, Whit, Mad, Willow, and Vern. The characters play off each other well and make for a very interesting family.
I've read another RC Ryan book and enjoyed it and this one was definitely the same. The beginning of the book, we see Ash interacting with his father, and it wasn't good at all. Quite honestly, I thought Ash's dad was a gigantic jerk. I don't blame for Ash leaving for a decade.
Fast forward to present day. Ash is back in Copper Creek because his father was murdered. Throughout the story, we are shown that his father wasn't always a hardass. He's starting to realize this, with the help of Brenna. From the point they see each other again, it's blatant that the connection they had previously is still there and the pull is hard to deny. Once Brenna realizes the jerk she was with was not who she wanted to be, the story really started to take off. Bad things start happening to the couple whenever they are together, which makes everyone think that Ash's father's killer is out to get Ash. Things go from weird coincidences to craziness which had me breezing through the story as fast as I could.
Between the mysteries, twists, and the love story, this book had me glued to the pages. And I loved the secondary characters and after reading the little snippet from the next book, I cannot wait to get my hands on it. The Copper Creek Cowboys is going to be a very enjoyable series.
THE MAVERICK OF COPPER CREEK by R. C. Ryan is an exciting Western Contemporary Romance set in present day Copper Creek, Wyoming. First in the new and exciting series, "Copper Creek Cowboys" and what a beginning.
Meet, Ashe Mackenzie, tall, tough, and sexy plus proud. And Brenna Crane, Ashe was her first love and broke her heart.
With suspense, mystery, murder, second chances, family, passion and the power of true love, what's not to enjoy. Fast paced and action packed. Danger is always just around the corner, as Ashe searches for the truth of his father's death. I loved the way Brenna and Ashe, come together, their passion and romance is genuine and realistic. A touching love story with mystery, and danger.
Second chance love, a tender, sweet love story makes for an unforgettable story that lingers long after the last page. I look forward to the next installment. An epic family saga, to be sure! Well done! A must read. Western Romance fans look out for THE MAVERICK OF COPPER CREEK!
This book has it all, sexy as hell moments, action packed bar fights, shootings and zooming trucks and best of all a family full of love and laughter. I love how strong and a survivor Brenna is, omg she's been through hell with a drunken father, a run down ranch and love lost but she's amazing. Ash...holy cow he's sexy as hell, strong and muscled and hardworking but most of all loving (and superman) . Love these two, they started as best friends then moved on to more then lost each other, very emotional journey but their love shines. Love the Mackenzie family..all strong, hardworking, loving and funny as hell. Whitt and Griff just as sexy as Ash...love Brady and Mad too. Great characters, great story, kick butt moments and WTH moments but love love love. I can't wait to read more about this family and by this author... 4.5 stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
A sweet romance as two people who had been best friends growing up realized they were more than friends.
Ash MacKenzie and his father Bear were two strong-minded men. Ash could never do anything right according to his father and finally left home to make it on his own. Now years later, he is back in Copper Creek. His father was shot in the back and the sheriff has no suspect. Ash runs into Brenna Crane, his best friend since they were kids. Now she is engaged to another man and Ash realizes just how important Brenna is to him and wonders if it is too late for a second chance.
Great new book to a new series. This author knows how to write western romances. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Ash broke Brenna's heart once and she will not let him do it again since he has returned to town to see about his father's death. Someone seems to be out for Ash or Brenna which was a nice twist. The love is still burning with them both can they survive long enough to make it happen.
I really liked this story of Ash Mackenzie and Brenna Crane. It has several themes running through it, that I always enjoy. The sexy, hard working cowboys. Long, lost, first love. Family drama. Murder and mayhem. All of it together equals the kind of story that pulled me in and kept me interested to the end. Great characters, setting, storyline and writing. I'm very interested in continuing this series to solve some of the mysteries that still linger.
I didn't like this book as much as I thought I would, but Ash that boy is smooth, "sunshine, 'nice' is hot chocolate on a cold night. 'Nice' is flannel sheets after a bone-chilling ride through waist-high snow. But you naked against me..."" He grinned. 'It may be a lot of things, but I'd never call it nice." It was an okay read, I had to force myself a few times to continue reading the book.
