Dragons, Daddies, and Danger

MMM romances are my jam, so I was super excited to dive into this one. Daruss has everything: a dragon shifter Daddy, a motorcycle club, and a spicy romance with two very different mates. The dynamic between Daruss, Jude, and Raylee was sweet, and the steamy moments delivered, but something felt… incomplete.

Maybe it’s because the MC setting is new to me, but the world-building didn’t fully pull me in. While I liked the action and danger, the emotional depth between the trio felt like it needed more time to develop. It was cute and had its moments, but it didn’t leave me fully satisfied.

Still, if you’re into MMM with some shifter spice, this one’s worth a shot.

A MMM paranormal romance with dragons & humans in a motorcycle club, action & feels, daddy with his boys, & heart-racing climaxes! I devoured my #ARC in 7hrs, loved Daruss, Jude, Raylee.

Daruss is the alpha dragon shifter of his Dragon Skulls MC, a hardass bastard but protective, caring daddy.
Jude is a human, confident, snarky but jaded, vulnerable too. His bro is part of D's enemies MC, it's a secret but not for long.
Raylee is a sweet, innocent human & sassy, smart nurse too. He's their needy sunshine. D's fated mate.

Damn, this book has dual climaxes. 1 at start that hooked me in, & 1 at end which is a culmination! I liked that the relationship grows b/w the 3, things with R are low angst. Things b/w D+J are oh boy, complicated! The chemistry & daddy kink is HOT tho.

This is my 1st Kelley book, I felt like I was thrown into an established world at start, but getting to know the MC & finding trickles about D+J's past helped.

I wish we'd gotten to see J+R ride D's dragon & an epilogue! On world building front, we got just enough but ya know I always want more. I'll look forward to this series.

Could not finish!

This was a very stupid story! I stopped reading around chapter 19. I was more upset with Raylee than anybody else. His fated mate tells him he's in love with someone who isn't his mate and he doesn't even protest or quarrel. In fact, he ran to the hospital to play nursemaid to this stranger. This is not normal behavior. What's the point of having a fated mate if they can choose anyone over you. This doesn't align with the other mated pairs in this shifter/vampire/human world the author has created. Raylee should have kept his distance from Durass and made him come crawling to him, begging for his forgiveness! That would have been more believable. This story was labeled as an MM novel, but it's really an MMM novel. Normally, I steer clear of books with multiple partners. Maybe this ends differently from the direction it was heading towards. But I was so turned off that I didn't stick around to find out. There's nothing romantic about these types of relationships whatsoever! I regret that I wasted my time reading any portion of this book!

A Joyfully Jay review.

Daruss is the first book in April Kelley’s new Dragon Skull Daddies MC series. I was drawn to this one from the blurb and the idea of Daruss being in love with Jude and then finding his fated mate. While this doesn’t end up really being the conflict I anticipated for any of the three men, I did enjoy the relationship dynamic between them all. Daruss and Jude have fallen for each other while Jude is in hiding with the Dragon Skulls. With Mitch a well-known Chained Devils member, Jude has been keeping their connection quiet. So when he finally shares the truth, it throws a wrench in things between him and Daruss.

Overall, I found this one a nice start to a new series. I am intrigued by the Dragon Skulls club and curious to see where the series goes from here.

3.5 stars A MMM Daddy and boys story.
A good start to the book with a little bit of background on Jude..
Prelude: Jude was in a tough situation where all he could do was help protect his brother, Mitch or vice versa from a beating. (Mixed feelings why Jude was included in with Mitch’s dealings in the prelude)

Being a member of the biker gang?? Jude tried to stay away from the CD’s leader, since he hated Jude. The Chain Devils MC club were bad bad news and Jude and Mitch needed out.
Trouble was still brewing catching up with Jude.

I wouldve loved Daruss and Jude first meeting to have been included but it wasnt. I thought I’d missed a prior book because where there story started.
Fast forward and Jude was with his dragon Daddy Daruss are in a committed DS relationship.
Enter Raylee a innocent human in all ways, was returning home after being away from his family at collage for nursing.
A secret that Jude holds makes it tough for Daruss .
This is a heart breaking story for Jude after what he has been through, I couldnt help feel for him esp when he gets badly injured.
Jude desperately wants to find his brother knowing hes in trouble.
I think Raylee was the glue between Daruss and Jude especially when situations get tough. But Raylee is very innocent to Daruess’s club business. A rough start with the three of them sorting out the relationship.
A great romance for all of them, hot sexy scenes included. But they were missing something for me to love this book.

This is a new to me author, and I will be reading more of her work! The characters were well developed and the storyline is intriguing, exciting and suspenseful. This story follows Daruss, Jude and Raylee. Daruss is a dragon shifter, and also the alpha of the Dragon Skulls MC, Jude is a human just trying to hide and stay alive while Raylee is is a nurse and a dragon’s adopted son. They form a beautiful triad. This story is packed with danger, action, and past enemies that are out to cause the three much suffering. Will they come out on top?

Queer paranormal romance with some spice. The relationship development between the main characters happened unrealistically fast. Less paranormal world building than expected. Likely won’t be reading on.

"Daruss" received TWO AND A HALFstars.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book. It definitely snagged my attention. I think Jude is my favorite of the trio. I liked Raylee as well when he showed up, but I didn’t like the way his behavior changed and how he suddenly lost his sense of agency as soon as he started calling Daruss Daddy. I’ve seen that happen so often in Daddy/boy books and it turns me off.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

1/2 * gained for: "I thought about the book when I was forced to set it down and re-enter society." Definitely lost my interest in the story about three-quarters in.

* gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."

The novel failed to gain stars for this item:

NO STAR gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."

I shouldn't have finished this, I'm not sure why I wasted my time finishing it, inertia clearly took over. Badly written, childish characters, and a distinct lack of editing.

Going to cleanse my brain with a more skillfully written and edited book.

I won't be reading anything else from this author.

I’m not sure what I feel for this story. It was a bit unusual in that Daruss was in love with someone who was not his mate and then decided to basically make his mate accept this man into his relationship. This story would have played better if the three men would have all been fated mates. I think that Raylee was way too accepting right off the bat. Overall, this story was okay.

Daruss, leader of his motorcycle club and a dragon shifter, is confident in his life. He’s not a good guy but doesn’t care. His violent and unlawful lifestyle suits him fine. Jude, desperate to find his brother and convince Daruss, the man he loves, that he is not a traitor to his motorcycle club goes horribly wrong. Raylee, A new nurse, content with the way his life is going. Then he meets his mate Daruss, and his life takes a totally different track. Three different people come together. Daruss, An Alpha, brought to his knees by his headstrong boy Jude and the sweet innocence of Raylee.“As dominant as Daruss was, his dragon ruled almost everything he did. His protective instinct. Wanting submission from his boys. His willingness and ability to fight for what he wanted. Even the fact that he didn’t like following the rules, including the ones imposed on him by society.”

Triads are sometimes hard to read because of seeming inequities. Here I felt that they were all completely equal. Even though Darrus said to Raylee…“You’re the missing piece.” Daruss held out his arms. When Raylee went to him, Daruss lifted him off his feet and held him. “You’re ours. Our mate. Our love. Our baby.”…It didn’t mean that Jude was any less important. I think Jude needed the most support and love and he received it from both of his partners.

Seeing Daruss basically turn to mush with his boys was sweet. My first impression of the boys was that they were the weaker characters but that opinion changed rapidly. The author gave each one a spine of steel that didn’t affect their softness.

I liked this story. I thought it was well written with good, well developed characters, some action and I will definitely read the next in the series.

I'm not usually a motorcycle club (MC) fan but hey, menage and dragon shifter. This is apparently set in a pre-established world but I was fine starting with this book. Daruss is an alpha dragon shifter and head of a MC of misfits, dragons, other shifters and people they've rescued from bad situations. He has a relationship with Jude, a human, but when he finds out Jude's brother works for the opposing MC, Jude runs away and ends up captive by the bad club. When Daruss goes to find him, he meets Raylee who is also human (but raised by his dragon shifter dad (step-dad? I forget)) who is Daruss's fated mate. But you can fall in love AND have a fated mate.

Raylee is pretty innocent but gets mates and after they get Jude back, recently graduated nurse Raylee helps him heal and they get to know each other and ... you know. They then decide to take down the human traficking ring of the bad guys.

There is lots of violence, although it wasn't too graphic for me. They are a MC who sells drugs and are rough and ready to fight/kill, but they also have good hearts and want to rescue people held captive. So on the whole I really enjoyed it and while it seemed Raylee moved reallly quickly (Jude and Daruss had a relationship) the whole fated mates made that easier to just roll with. I'll definitely follow up the next book which is Jude's brother's book.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

3.5 stars

This one really teetered between a 3 and a 4 for me. I liked certain elements of it and I think it made for a decent start to a new series, but I also thought there were a several pieces that felt like they were missing. I know there is a prequel story (author's newsletter) that I haven't read yet, and I'm hoping that will fill in a couple of the missing pieces. The mating between Jude, Raylee, and Daruss was interesting in that you have Raylee and Daruss as fated mates, but Jude is an equal partner in the relationship. It's rare to see a shifter story with a non-fated mate still being included in a triad.

A "daddy" kink isn't necessarily my favorite, but it can work in certain stories. But the MC's father being present while he is calling his father "daddy" takes me out of the story. I also felt like there were several hints about the relationship that Raylee's parents had, but there was a big missing piece to make it actually make sense.

I did find the book to be an easy read escape. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next story.

"A Gripping and Exciting Dragon MC Romance"

Dragons, Humans, Warlocks, Foxes, Wolves, and MC Gangs..oh my!  Daruss, by April Kelley, is an upcoming MMM Paranormal Romance filled with plenty of nail-biting, exciting, emotional, difficult-to-read yet heart-warming moments that will make any reader eager for more!

Daruss, is the first book in a Shifter Daddy Series that is definitely to be considered a wild ride.  With plenty of paranormal beauty, a wide range of likable characters, and triggers to be wary of, this is a story full of nitty-gritty biker dealings, newly-found family members and plenty of tear-jerking hopeful moments as well.

It is also in this reader's opinion, on-the-other-hand, that another round of editing would be recommended for not only a few typos but also for the depth, development as well as for the clarity of the plot, characters, as well as for a bit of the pace as well.  All of which would make this story even better.

Nevertheless, Daruss is a very good story with soaring and fiery dragons, lots-of-love, and a redemption that will have readers anxious and eager for more from this new Paranormal Series.

Exiting to the point of leaving you wanting more. Life is about to get real for the Dragon Skulls MC. Daruss is the club Alpha. Jude, human is hiding out from Terrell of the rival MC Chained Devils. Mitch, Jude's older brother is trying to outsmart Terrell for whom he formerly worked. Terrell considers Mitch an enemy and Jude a candidate for human trafficking. Raylee is new to town. He's a recent graduate with a nursing degree and the adopted son of dragon, Enzo. There are lots of characters introduced and the character development is intriguing. April excels in character development and creating story challenges that make them shine. I want to learn the back stories of all the key players. This story brings a lot of mystery, danger and intrigue. Lots of surprises and many characters are not whom they seen. Characters are likeable and fun. There are mysteries within mysteries, some get solved. Excellent story, well done. I look forward to reading more. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The book is built on other series from April Kelley. I read Joni first. Jonik and Wren are introduced in a that short. About a dragon motor cycle gang the Dragon Skulls.

Jude’s brother (Mitch) worked with a rival game. Things got bad when Mitch overheard a suggestion made to sell Jude. Mitch sent him to the Dragon Skulls, knowing the are anti-trafficking. Whilst there Jude and Daruss become lovers.

Things get more complicated when Jude mentions who his brother is. And Daruss runs into his mate Raelee. Jude runs and things go from bad to worse.

The book builds upon learning to trust. The three forming a triad. That forming because of emotional bonds held by Raelee towards Jude and Jude and Jaruss’ past. Battling a rival gang who traffics humans and other nefarious misdeeds. I liked the bond formed. That both Jude and Jaruss felt with their ray if sunshine Raelee, they wouldn’t be together.

With Daruss begins a new series in a world well developed by April Kelley. You`ll find old friends and foes here if you have any familiarity with the Wingspan and Secret Lakes series you`ll find yourself at home with this book.
Nowhere in the blurb is said that this story is MMM, there`s no harem, no triangle, no cheating, I think it`s something you need to know because it`s not clear reading the blurb.
Jude and Raylee are quite the pair, how they both leave space to each other to be Daddied by Daruss is touching. And the way Daruss is willing to change his life and the lives of all of his club makes him quite a character.
I found this story quite engaging and with enough action and argument to sustain the heated scenes.
I recommend this and will read the next books to see how this group of bikers evolve.

This is the first book in a new series which takes place in the dragon town of Wingspan. The alpha of the Dragon Skull MC, Daruss, finds his mates. His fated and his chosen mates. Building a triad is set against a territory war with a rival gang and some human traffickers.
The chemistry between Daruss, Jude and Raylee is hot. The book moves fast. There's angst and violence. Jude and Raylee call Daruss, daddy, and he calls them his boys and his baby. But this is daddy lite. A passing nod at the lifestyle. Mostly in the bedroom, where the sex is inventive and quite hot.
A fun, quick read. There are characters from the Wingspan series, but the story doesn't revolve around them. And there's already a setup for the next book in the series.

I received an advance copy of this book and this is my review.

This is a new to me author and I am glad that I took the chance. This was an action packed and intense story that I enjoyed very much. This is the story of Daruss, Jude and Raylee. Daruss is a dragon shifter and alpha for the Dragon Skull MC. Jude is a human who is hiding to stay alive. Raylee is a nurse and a dragon's adopted son. The three of them come together to form the perfect for them triad. There are territory fights and human traffickers to deal with. Life within the MC is not easy. But together they can survive the storm. The book was written well and easy to read. I look forward to the next book in this series.

A paranormal romance with MMM, bikers, dragons, and Daddy vibes ? Sign me up! Now this is told on 3rd person POV which is not my fave, but the story was intriguing and entertaining enough that I got pass that. This story revolves around our dragon daddy Daruss, a sassy human Jude, & a sunflower empathetic human Raylee. Raylee and Daruss turn out to be fated mates, but Daruss & Jude are already involved before they meet. They quickly fall for one another throughout all the drama of the rival biker gang situations. This was an easy book to get through in one day. It flowed very well. I am interested in continuing this series.

Daruss, Jude and Raylee story was intense, packed with danger and unexpected things.
They had their past and trust issues as well as an enemy that is hell-bent in causing troubles and suffering.
Hidden agenda and life experience, as well as fear are driving forces that cloud judgement and help suffering and pain to came to front.
They have a complex relationship and have to make decisions to guarantee safety and happiness.
Danger is a constant friend but when protectiveness is front and centre as well as determination and love all become possible.
I liked the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

Daruss is the first novel in the Dragon Skulls MC Daddies series. This is an MMM story just so you are aware. Daruss is a daddy dragon shifter and his two boys Jude and Raylee who are both human. Raylee is Daruss' fated mate but he also has feelings for Jude. This book kept me involved from the beginning. It has plenty of action and a great plot. I enjoyed seeing the dynamic between these three. I loved all the characters and the world building that April Kelley is known for. This is a great start for the series. I would definitely recommend this book and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

One word: Dragons!

Daruss has his hands full with Jude and Raylee. He’s more than willing to be the daddy they need and boy does he. I enjoyed this story and look forward to more. Enough action, and enough spice for a fun read.

This is a new series by April Kelley, and a new to me author. I can say I’m looking forward to more! There are some content warnings on this series and I’m here for it. I did see this series is a “spin-off” sort of from another series. I’ll be checking that one out.

Daruss seems to be set in a world the author has already written in, so there was a lot of back story and side characters. But the action in this book starts so quickly that I didn’t feel like I knew or cared about Daruss or Jude very much before everything falls apart. Raylee on the other hand we follow around a little while he slowly gets settled working in his sister’s bookstore.

The characters’ motivations seem inconsistent from scene to scene. They’re set on avoiding each other, then suddenly pursuing a relationship, then on the outside again. Raylee is so innocent that Jude can tell from looking at him over only minutes. He certainly didn’t seem to fit in the crude and gritty motorcycle club life.

The premise was promising but didn’t quite land. This may be more appealing if you’ve read previous books in this world.

Even though I am completely invested in this series, there are moments I want to just say, "Seriously?"

I am going through a stage where I prefer light sex scenes as opposed to the "contorting" that is done when we are dealing with a triad... but it is what it is!

Watching three men who are complete opposites figure out how to make a relationship work, is well... work! Daruss has his hands full with his boys and Jude has to learn how to trust, while Raylee has to figure out how the world works... but don't worry, they got this!!!

It looks like Mitch will get his book next. I wonder how that is going to work with Seyrn being... Seryn? LOL!!!

I loved this book! I don't know how April manages to kept such a great momentum going from Wingspan to the Saint Lakes series she has now branched out to this new Dragon Skull MC series where we meet plenty of our favourite characters and catch up with them. I loved
Daruss, Jude and Raylee who are absolutely perfect together and Daruss is he perfect Daddy putting his boys first. Such a well written storyline with great word building I cannot wait for the next one!

So we are getting the story of Daruss the Alpha of the Dragon Skulls MC. This story has some definite twists and turns. He has a bit of an awakening when he discovers his human mate Raylee. He also has to figure out how to make the situation work with Jude. These three have some work to do but if they can figure it out, they just might get their HEA. I did enjoy these characters. Jude is a bit of a brat. Raylee is an angel but he isn’t naive. Daruss has his hands full! I think some interesting times are in store for the Dragon Skulls.
