Knee Deep in the Game

Rate this book
Pop is a young kid from the projects looking for a way to make a quick dollar, and an even quicker way to escape from his crazy mother's house. His whole life takes a turn when he bumps into Fresh, the neighborhood dope man who's on the lookout for a tough soldier he can trust and depend on. When their paths cross, the two immediately bond, but when trust issues, two sisters, and a freshly released convict come into the picture, things hit the fan faster than a New York minute. Pop's courage, loyalty, and heart get put to the test when he has to decide how far he's willing to go in order to come up.

Summary:
Picture a young kid from the projects in New York sitting on a bench right outside of his building, his home life is full of chaos and hatred, and he is hungry. That young kid that I just described is Pop. He did what he needed to do in order to feed himself and he wanted to leave his mother’s house as quick as he could. But in order to leave home, he needed money! All his troubles seemed to disappear the moment he met Fresh or so it seems.

What I thought:
Mr. George has a very special way of drawing us into his world through vivid descriptions and realistic scenarios. I felt like I was there beside each character as I read this book. If that character felt pain, sadness or anger I felt it. This book gave me goosebumps because it tells a story of what are young men and woman go through just to survive another day. If you haven’t read this book I highly recommend that you borrow it or purchase it and read it.
