Lettie’s house is falling down around her. And no matter what they do, she and her sister Sana can’t keep up.

Every day, some new part of their house splinters or cracks, but Lettie’s faith is unbroken. After a lifetime of leaving gifts at the ancient yew tree near their crumbling home, the Old Kind finally speak to Beware the vandal in the night.

And now she knows. The loose floorboards, the broken door latch, the mysterious leak in the sitting room – maybe these aren’t just signs of an old house in need of repair. Maybe there really is someone creeping about at night, removing nails one by one…

Anna Cackler is a lover of story – and a sucker for drama, romance, and dark beauty. Which is odd, considering how generally unserious she is most of the time. She’s married to her best friend, and they have a lovely little family in Arkansas. They have two dogs, a cat, a slew of chickens, and a pond in their front yard that won’t hold water. She’s pretty sure there’s a metaphor in there, somewhere.

Starsong is a short fantasy novella with special, magical moments that are such a charm to this novella. Furthermore it includes romance and family dynamics.

I absolutely adore the sister dynamics, of loving, teasing, arguing and all in between. The novella is written beautifully, almost magically and despite it being a short story, it doesn't feel rushed. It had a medium pace, one that pulled you in from the start and introduced the characters enough to immediately feel a connection to them.

Go check out this book, it's beautiful! Definitely recommend Starsong to all fantasy lovers! 🌟🎶

Things that go bump in the night aren’t always what they seem.
Whether it’s the Boogeyman, brownies, house elves, or monsters under the bed – be prepared for anything and everything. Many a night creature lurks in dark corners and hidden spaces. And never, ever forget that ‘the Old Kind should never be ignored’. They not only need appeasement, but demand sacrifice. Something meaningful; something precious. But what does one do when sacrifice isn’t enough?

I’ve already read ‘The Glass Wheel’ and ‘Bluewater’ and look forward to more by this author.

Another great novella in the Sibylline series. I have to say, I really enjoy these short stories, as Cackler is such a talented writer and storyteller.

Star Song is another mildly dark fantasy story. The writing is so smooth, and flows effortlessly. The characters are well developed, and the world building fantastic.

I always love reading about the underdogs fighting against people in power, so this fit the bill perfectly. The side love stories for both Lettie and Sana were sweet and enjoyable, and the supernatural element intriguing.

If you haven’t read any of Cackler’s work, I would highly recommend. Everything I’ve read so far has been 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Let me start off saying this was a such a lovely novella. And coming from someone who has not read any of the other Sibylline Saga, I easily understood what was going on and honestly it made me want to get the other books. I truly loved the characters. Then not really sure who to believe when it came to what was going on with their house. The sister bond of Lettie and Sana is great. Both are so different and both are each others anchor. Total fighters. This is a short novella and it is easy to get through in one sitting and it holds its own. Which is why I must read the others. Thank you so much for allowing me to read such a great novella. I am looking forward to more of the Sibylline Saga.

I received an ARC from the author and am leaving a review of my own free will.
Positives:

The old ones - Loved how they were portrayed and discussed
The sisterly relationship - I wish we had more of their interactions and past but i loved their relationship
The older sister - She was trying her best under tough circumstances and stood her ground

Negatives:

The boys/love interests. The characters felt thin but my biggest annoyance was the MC's internal monologue and interactions with them. I do not find annoying banter and winding people up cute or funny. If you do, you will like this story better than me
The ending - It felt a bit rushed and unsatisying

This is a really lovely short story, that's written well and has beautiful messages about sibling love and the community around them. It was quick to get into and has as much depth as can be expected from a short story. The relationships between characters seem very genuine and easy to relate to. I like the bits of magic throughout too.
