Some shadows are not shadows at all but Death, watching, waiting.
Only sometimes, Death is not content to watch.
Sometimes, he comes with purpose.
And tonight, on this darkest of all nights, Death came not for the wanderer, as it had so many times, but for his friends. To save them, the wanderer will have to stand in the darkness and face down the shadows lurking there. Shadows trained by none other than Assassin, the greatest killer ever to walk the face of the world.
Wounded, the wanderer plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse through the streets of Celes, one that isn’t over until his corpse, or those of his pursuers, falls lifeless to the ground.
But those are just the beginnings of his troubles, for even should he survive the night, the darkness will return. Death will return—he always does.
Only this time, Death is not a he at all…it’s a she. And not just any she. Assassin has come to Celes…and no one is safe.
This book started off much better with the rescue of Veikr. I don’t want to imagine what Ungr would do to the person that hurts him. The Shadows are a worthy opponent, but Ungr has some creative plans ahead for them. The cannibals also are a creepy addition to the story. But they play an interesting part later on. It’s a read with one eye closed kind of thing. Decker has a crazy idea about how to get more help to take back the city. Is this a good idea? Probably not. But will it work? I really enjoyed how this book ended.
Trained by the deadliest assassin they hunt their prey. Knowing he will be vastly outnumbered. Skills of death tested against one with a talent to survive.
Book 6 delivers! Action packed western inspired & tons of fun. The hunt last Eternal nears its end!
I have been following this series for some time now. It took a little to get into, but, I'm always up for an adventure. The last Eternal is most assuredly a flawed hero. He keeps trying. Since he's been with Dekker and his family, Clint, and the perishables, I feel better. I feel like he's understood, and cared about. He deserves that. I'm looking forward to the next installment because he will be facing the Assassin. She's going to be one of his toughest challenges. She's taught him much. Its going to be good. Thanks Jacob. Can't wait!
It is quite interesting that the place should be called Celes. One cannot help but think of things celestial. Doing so in Celes would be a big mistake. Instead, Celes is about death. Many deaths. Violent deaths. For the Assaassin arrived and she is looking for Ungr. Two new arrivals, however, attracted my attention, however. One is called Boulder. The other is called Elizabeth. And it is clear these two people are due to make a huge impact, too. But, it is early days yet. For now, even the poor reader had to duck his head. Enjoy.
Ungr, the Wanderer and the last of the Eternals, continues his battle to save all mankind. He is mortally wounded trying to save his horse and the stable owner and barely makes it to an apprentice healer. He continues to be chased by the Shadows who were sent to kill him. He manages to escape bur not without more injuries. As the story moves forward, we find Ungr and his friends trying to find a way to end this evil attempting to takeover the world. The non stop action with another awesome storyline will be keep you glued to your seat !
I freaking love this series. It is extremely rare that I am 6 books deep into a series and still can't get enough. I usually lose interest by about the 2.5-3rd book. Can't wait for the next book in this series!
This book 6 was definitely a page-turner for me the entire book. Soooo much suspense nearly the whole time. Yassss!
Also, Hollywood needs to make these into a show or movies. I'd watch the hell out of this. And since The Witcher screwed him, Henry Cavill would literally be the perfect Ungr. MAKE IT HAPPEN. I'll hold my breath.
This was an epic tale of starting a fight where there is no amount of reasoning is going to explain the outcome. As we regard our heroes, we are left with a horror no person wants to face but Unger must and we’ll see how it turns out in the next book . Well done, this was exciting….. phew!
Like a fine wine, Peppers gets better with each additional story of the wanderer and his friends. Action packed, humorous, intriguing, with the slightest hope of romance all together in a fast paced well scripted novel. The false Eternals and the wanderer are quickly heading for an ugly confrontation in the city of Celes. I know I want to be there for that chapter!
Great continuation of the series. The stakes keep getting higher, with all the thrillingly written action you'd expect from Jacob P, but the continued standout in the series is the character building. (Mildly Spoiler) Dekker gets some backstory, our Wanderer makes some new contacts, and the cliffhanger has me salivating for the next installment.
This story focuses more on the character development than the big picture stuff. The plot rumbles along nicely enough, but it is the fact that it is funny, rather than the ‘world building,’ that I loved.
Stumbled onto the first book by chance and have loved the story so far. The pace is great, barely a moment to breathe really imposed the constant desperation of the characters. Can wait for the next book.
Very engaging series. The characters are fun. The hero is likable but fallible. This book was way too short though. For that alone I took off one star.
Really liked the beginning of this and thought this book in general was engaging. The shadows and cannibals were both rather interesting. I really liked the ending of this book.
