I first heard about the book through the art of charm podcast and found the author very interesting. But the book is too much of a project for my liking. I thought it would be insightful and informative, but instead it is full of actions, pledges and things to do. I know this may come across as me being lazy, however I feel that unless you are specifically looking for what amounts to course material, then this book is probably not for you.
A brilliant book for all Dad's and soon to be fathers out there. The book forces you to do a lot of introspection and gives you valuable guidance for the journey ahead.
This could be a quick read, in which case you will remain stuck as a passive/absent/abusive father, or a profound life-changing exercise that will astound you and change your relationships forever.
Although aimed at fathers, this is a book all men should read simply because of the frank look at how our society is falling apart from the lack of true masculinity (note that masculinity has nothing to do with sexuality) being shown by the men in our society.
Mr Wilkinson has taken the lessons he has learned from fathering his own children, his societal observations and studying, and compiled a book to engender new thought processes and behaviours in men worldwide. Even if you are not a father, you are still a role model to those around you and need to examine the way you live your life. The book consists of three sections: Part one looks at fatherhood in general and masculinity as a word which has lost its meaning and authenticity. Part two looks at the 12 ‘dadverbs’ – dad action words to help fathers in their quest to raise well-rounded children. Part three consist of various challenges for men to look at their own lifestyle and to see how well they actually know their children along with simple practical exercises to assist them going forward.
Honestly, this book deserves a place on every man’s shelf, even if they are not a father yet.
