Sparks fly when the Perfect Match Agency matches two exes who had a bad, bad break-up. But the real fire starts after an emergency heat leads to a surprise pregnancy…
John
It’s been a year since my relationship with Michael imploded and my life fell apart, and I’m finally ready to date again. Especially with my heat about to come at any moment. I never thought I would resort to a matchmaking agency to help me find an alpha…and I never expected that alpha to be my ex.
Michael
My heart was in shreds after John kicked me out of the life we’d lived together for five years. So I when my therapist suggested I sign up with the Perfect Match Agency, I was skeptical. And then they went and matched me with John. My John! On top of that, what does he do on our “first date” but go into heat!
Now we have a far bigger problem than suddenly seeing each other after a year. We have a baby on the way and a mountain of baggage to sort through if we’re going to build a life for him. Can we take this second chance we’ve been given and do better the second time around, or will my family get in the way and ruin the best thing that’s ever happened to me?
Perfect Match Agency: Springtime is a multi-author gay romance series. The stories are non-shifter omegaverse, with high heat and low angst. Male pregnancy is possible in the world. Each individual book can be read as a standalone, features a new couple, and a satisfying happily ever after. Ex Match is the first book in the new series and features a second chance, emergency heat, surprise pregnancy, learning to love again, working it out, horrible parents, and a happily ever after.
Be sure to check out the first Perfect Match Agency series as well!
This was a nice first entry in this new multi-author series set with a matchmaking agency. (I believe there was already one with these authors last year.)
Imagine you’re still angry and hurt with your ex boyfriend even one year the breakup. You try to finally move on. You sign up with a matchmaking agency that promises you the perfect match. You go on that date at that coffee shop to meet this alpha only to discover that they paired you up with said ex.
So what happens when in the middle of a hissing argument over the menu your heat suddenly starts, he offers to help you out because really, what other option is there in this situation? and because the universe is not laughing already at your expense the ex you desperately wanted to get over manages to get you pregnant?
To get that answer you have to read this novella. *smirk
I enjoyed books by this author before so I was fairly certain this would work very well for me, especially with this premise. But I must honestly say tho, that the plot line (and writing) felt pretty cheap and even cringe at certain points so don’t expect something exceptional here.
Still, I’m intrigued by this series and looking forward to reading the other books as well.

Ex Match is the first book in the second collection of the ‘Perfect Match Agency: Springtime,’ written by various authors. This story stars John, an omega and teacher, and Michael, a financier. This is told in first person from John and Michael’s povs.
I’m glad to see that another collection of the ‘Perfect Match’ series is out. I read a few books in the first set and enjoyed them. The original authors have added two more authors to their group and I’m interested in seeing what stories they come up with.
First the cover. I really like it, it’s gorgeous. The cover model even looks like John, the omega teacher.
The blurb. It might have been either written hastily, or the formatting wasn’t done well, because it’s difficult to read on Goodreads. First thing I suggest is that the blurb gets fixed. As to the information in the blurb, it gives the basic idea of what to expect in the plot. What it doesn’t cover, is what the characters are like and how they interact.
I’m going to expand on the blurb. The men have been broken up for a year. We learn gradually from John’s pov that Michael ignored him and paid too much attention to his work. When we meet Michael, we learn that John isn’t quite honest in his pov, he’s biased. While both tried to get over the breakup, Michael went to therapy and learned many things about himself and other coping strategies for stress, so he uses them in his interactions with John. John has only submerged himself into various activities to forget Michael. Anyway, they meet through the ‘Perfect Match Agency’ and of course, start to fight right away, which was started by John. They deal with John going into heat almost immediately upon seeing Michael again. From there they must learn how to deal with the pregnancy and their conflicting emotions.
I’d say John is the more difficult personality, he seems to still hold on to resentment from the past, while Michael uses his therapy to help in work through what is happening with him and John. John is impressed with Michael’s restraint, honesty, and the way he uses calming techniques. Because of Michael’s openness, John is forced to look within and realize that he was also responsible for their breakup. There were misunderstandings between the two, but they worked it through by talking, which was wonderful to read. There wasn’t any of the long angsty, manufactured misunderstandings that so many other authors use to create conflict between their characters. John and Michael talked. That’s what I like about this author’s books. There’s often advice for the characters to get therapy to help deal with their problems, or they’ve gone to deal with their problems like Michael had. I think this is an excellent topic to bring up in MM books because too many people, men, and women, think that getting therapy is a weakness, but it’s not.
I really liked how the author developed the relationship between Michael and John and I could believe in them as a couple. I wasn’t sure how the author was going to do it since this was a couple that had already broken up. I wondered how was she going to convincingly bring them back together? This is one of the most realistic second chance stories I’ve read. Most others I’ve read were too rushed, with the men not having received any therapy to help them grow and realize what they needed to change about themselves and their situation.
I wasn’t to keen on the characters that played Michael’s family. They were overbearing caricatures of a bossy and cruel father, and a cold, vain father. They created great insecurity in Michael because he could never be perfect enough for them. I wish the parents were more realistic instead of over-the-top.
There was one scene that seemed inconsistent. John’s principle wanted to speak to John privately the following week after he found out that John was pregnant. John is pretty sure he’ll lose his job. For me, this emphasis by John is an important topic that almost reads like a foreshadow and needs to be completed in a later scene, even if it’s just a passing thought. Instead, nothing happens. It’s not mentioned again. John just goes back to school, I don’t remember if he changed classrooms or what, but nothing was mentioned on John’s part about him getting angsty about what the principle had said. So, for me, that’s an incomplete and dropped scene in the book.
Overall, Ex Match is a cute, fast read. The author did a great job with bringing the characters back together. It was believable because Michael was going to therapy during the breakup, and had more understanding of his life, and how to cope. I recommend this book to others and give this, 4 Stars.

Ex Match is the first book in the second season of the Perfect Match Agency series - Perfect Match Springtime. This round, we have two new authors, Anna Wineheart and Amy Bellows, joining MM Farmer, Roe Horvat, and Wendy Rathbone.
This is a second chance low angst, high heat omegaverse story. Michael was in a long-term relationship with John, but due to misunderstandings and lots of unresolved issues, they ended up separating. Michael has not been with anyone since, and with his heat coming soon, he wants to find someone to not only spend his heat with but also create a relationship and family with.
The agency reaches back with a match - an 88.8% compatibility score - and it happens to be his ex, John! He goes into heat early and now with a child on the way, John must learn to stand up against family for mate and child. It’s a low angst quick read; if you’ve read the first season you know what to expect.
I really liked how they both knew that they were at fault for why their relationship did not work the first time, and through trials and errors, they actively worked on being better, communicating, and trusting one another.
It’s a short read, so it’s fast-paced and very insta love, but they already have a past so it didn’t feel too rushed since there’s history between the two.
Overall, I enjoyed Ex Match and excited for the next books in the new series.
- Second Chance Romance - Omegaverse - MPREG - Surprise Pregnancy - Instalove - Horrible Parents - Health Scare
I'm so glad that the Perfect Match Agency is back with new stories and updates to their matching processes. I wasn't sure how they were going to do this with ex's because they should've already been strongly drawn to each other and bonded, being together for five years prior. The author managed it though because these two were strongly drawn to each other but neither fully opened themselves up to the other in the past, not allowing them to fully bond. Also, their match is 88.8% which is high but below the strongest reactions of couples with over 90% as their match.
John and Michael were together for five years but their last year together was rough due to a lot of miscommunication while internalizing pain and anger. They have been broken up for a year now, neither of them over the relationship fully and haven't dated anyone else since. John has decided that he is ready to have a family and to move on, hopefully being able to finally get over Michael. Michael's been going to therapy ever since the breakup to help him process the crap his family puts him through and how he attributed to his breakup with John. Michael's therapist suggested that he apply with the agency to start getting back out there and help him heal emotionally. Fate would have it that these two got matched and their "no so first date" is a torrent of emotions. They're both frustrated with seeing each other, knowing the other was ready to move on, but they still felt their strong pull to each other. John's heat was already close but being together, in close proximity brings on heat immediately. Michael and John agree for them to go through his heat together, since there really were no other options at this point. They quickly end up with a surprise and now they're going to be fathers.
John never acknowledged how he attributed to the breakup, he only saw the faults with Michael and blamed it all on him. With their reunion he starts to realize that they were both at fault and how he didn't fight for their relationship at all, just panicked and kicked Michael out. I loved that they had Michael go to therapy and he actually used what he learned in order to finally communicate with John they way he should have when they were still together. They stumble here and there because old habits die hard, but they both tried to catch themselves before they did damage. Michael's family is just horrible and you can see why his confidence and self-esteem caused the couple issues before, but I was proud of him for standing up to them now showing his newfound inner strength.

Rather sweet. While not the biggest fan of second chance romance I enjoyed this different take of growing apart with both being equally at fault, ready to work on their relationship but also arguing and struggling at points.
Very different level of explicitness in comparison to the Wineheart one with this book being insta pregnancy so no days of heat :D
Absolutely horrific family which the MC luckily shoots to the wind!
1.5* The evil-awful-bad parents trope here we go again! It's becoming old.
This book is so grotesque and silly, it hurts. I can't believe its a part of PMA!
It was like some mediocre Wattpad story written by a teenage girl who sees the world in black and white. No complexity at all, just caricaturally awful parents, a touch-by-wand magical healing of a supposedly bad relationship. And almost no sex; there were only two short scenes—one was cut short by the sudden end of heat, and the other by a kidney problem. No sexy feeling at all, no chemistry.
The book was filled with such a number of 'relationship tricks' it sounded like a pile of silly advice from a cheap guidebook, 'Work on Your Relationship' by a overbearing psychologist. It was exhausting. No feeling of romance at all. Just some rekindling of old problems. One says something, the other has a reaction: 'Oh no, I can't say that.' And vice versa. Over and over. It gets absurd and tiresome.
Sorry, I usually write more in depth reviews but I simply can't, it's short and silly. Not much more to say.
I'm so astonished it even belongs to the great series 'Perfect Match Agency'. I'm happy the other authors brought talented author Anna Wineheart on board now; I guess they felt it was going downhill and needed fresh blood.
John Weatherby, omega (25); elementary school teacher Michael Fairchild, alpha (25?), financial consultant
Full disclosure, I am not the intended market for this book. I generally dislike both the second chance and "surprise" pregnancy tropes to the point of avoiding them almost altogether. After reading Enemy Match, the second book of the series, I was immediately hooked, but the third book hasn't been released yet, so I decided to read the blurb of the first. Pass. Then I needed something quick to read for convoluted reasons and having read another MM Farmer book that I enjoyed, I decided to give this one a shot.
I adored the 'match' premise. Being set-up with your 'perfect match' (the percentage amount was cute btw) by a matching agency and showing up to your date to find your ex-? Yes, yes, yes! Going into heat almost immediately? Delicious. Getting pregnant almost immediately? Yikes. Umm, no, no thank you.
To get behind a second-chance I really have to see the couple overcome the initial impediment, in this case they weren't communicating well and Michael let the stress of his job and family get to him to the point he became a different person and disengaged from his relationship with John, decided to end things. He has since gotten therapy and is much more well adjusted, self-aware, and healthy. John's later wracked with guilt because he didn't "fight for their relationship" after some little truth bombs get dropped to, I don't know, try to even out the blame for the relationship imploding? I didn't really like the tone, sometimes you have to save yourself and shouldn't drown yourself trying to save someone else, even a loved one. Honestly, they needed couples counselling or John needed a little individual therapy, but I digress.
My point, is I couldn't quite buy their new and improved relationship 2.0 quite so quickly because there was very little discussion amongst a lot of other things going on. There were moments where it came close and I feel like with a little more time I could have been swayed with a little more communication without the dramatic distractions or toxic family members, the world's most stressful babysitting gig, medical emergencies, thinly veiled threats from bosses, and, oh yeah, an unplanned, spontaneous pregnancy. Most of the time it felt like they were mostly trying to make it work because of nostalgia and the fact that they were expecting.
Anywho, I liked the book, it is well written, but it wasn't really for me, but if these tropes appeal to you, this will likely be right up your alley.
This is book 1/5 of the Perfect Match Agency: Springtime series.
My 2024 Reading Challenge for the month of February will be Beat The Backlog work (digital and print books). I'm going to claim this also includes keeping up with and catching up with my favorite authors most recent releases. Here's M.M. Farmer's "Ex Match." It's the first novel in a new multi-author series called "Perfect Match Agency: Springtime." ["Sparks fly when the Perfect Match Agency matches two exes who had a bad, bad break-up. But the real fire starts after an emergency heat leads to a surprise pregnancy…

Another novella, another home-run from MM. She never fails to pack soooooo much into all of her works, even the novellas. There was angst and hope, there was fluff and steam, there was fights and compromise, there was horrible families and amazing friends, there was hate and love, there was John and Michael.
They weren't perfect. Instead of talking, they bottled things up and held onto insecurities and lashed out. After a year apart and some individual growth, fate told them it was time to start again. And restart they did. ;)
Trigger Warning: toxic family members, therapy (helpful and insightful), and more
The start to the Perfect Match Agency Springtime two get a second chance John omega, teacher, and Michael a financier was a couple in love with one another or so they thought until the breakup. Neither expected to now be able to get over the other but a year later they both decided to sign up for a matchmaker program. John has been holding on to his hurt from the breakup and has been holding on to the resentment for so long learning that he needs to let it all go to be happy so trying the matchmaker app. Michael decided to go to therapy for help to work through their breakup, but he learned so much more about himself realizing that he gave his all but needed improvement so he worked on himself. They both signed up for the matchmaking not really knowing what to expect but when they both show up to meet the other, they realize they have been given a second chance deciding to give each other a chance John realize he was part of the reason for the breakup and due to misunderstanding, poor communication between them it led to their breakup. Upon first sight their frustration is understandable because they move wanted to move on from the other so badly but that pesky little thing called magnetic pull was still so strong between them refusing to be ignored add to that the fact that John’s heat was close but being so close to Michael brought it on and agreeing to go through this heat together providing the heat left them with no other option but this heat brought on a surprise that would tie them together as parents. Being together both agreed to try really try this time around John so the error of his ways and Michel with the help of therapy saw the error of his way but I really wanted to lock Michel’s family away on a deserted island needless to say do these two work on their relationship for the sake of their child and where are they headed to a happy little family?
I read both of Merry's books in the previous Perfect Match series and loved one, the other not quite as much of a hit. This one falls somewhere between. John and Michael were both at fault for their breakup, neither communicating with the other despite loving each other very much. Michael hid how much his family and their treatment of him shaped his whole life and led to his complete lack of self-worth, while John felt as though he was the only one invested in their relationship. Neither got over the other and then, meeting again through the Perfect Match Agency, life throws them a curveball or is it a lifeline? I liked how both men were forced by the outcome of their date to look again at themselves and how differently they could have done things and how differently they could approach everything now. It was nice to see them trying, working hard to temper their initial reactions and take a breath before automatically reverting to type. Michael's parents were so over the top, complete caricatures with no redeeming features. I couldn't help but think that if Michael had been truly happy with John for four years, before the last downhill year together, why didn't he just tell his cold and overbearing dad and his vain and shallow papa where to stick it? It really made no sense to me at all. Three and a half stars.
John and Michael had been together for 5 years when their relationship finally shattered and they split up. After a year, John decides to go to a matchmaking agency and begin dating again. His heat is about to start and he will need an Alpha to get him through it, so the timing works for him. Michael has been seeing a therapist since their breakup who recommends he go to the Perfect Match Agency and be matched to get back into the dating world as part of his healing. What they didn’t expect was that John and Michael would be matched to each other!
The two of them being together again brought on John’s heat and resulted in a pregnancy. Will they accept this situation as a perfect reason to give themselves a second chance to save their relationship? From this new perspective, can they talk things out and see where their previous mistakes drove them apart? Will becoming a family give them what they need to remain strong when Michael’s hateful family is determined to interfere? Or would the pressure of trying so hard to make this work end up pushing them apart?
This author writes a beautiful story of love and reuniting as they get an unexpected second chance to strengthen their bond and understand their mistakes. Will it be enough? Grab your copy and find out what the future has waiting for them.
The Perfect Match Agency has matched two exes who had broken up badly. John was a year on from his split with Michael and desperate to become a papa feels it is the right time to start dating again especially as his heat is due soon. When he turns up to meet the alpha who matched him he never expected it to be his ex. Michael's heart was in shreds after John kicked him out after sharing a life for five years so when his therapist suggested he use the Perfect Match Agency he was sceptical. When his match came back to John his heat immediately started. Their problems are larger now as they still have to sort out their relationship problems but also have a baby on the way. Can they take this second chance and do better this time?
This was a nice twist on the usual Perfect Match Agency story as it had exes who were a match plus all of the baggage that had to be sorted out for them to have a future. The confrontations with Michael's family were fun and I was really surprised that he managed to hide the reality of them from John. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content set in the Omegaverse with mpreg.
This is the first book in the multi-author Perfect Match Agency: Springtime series. Each book is a standalone read. This is the story of John and Michael. John is an omega school teacher. Michael is an alpha and works for his family business as a financier. John and Michael were in a serious relationship for 5 years before they broke up. The two had stopped communicating and grew apart. Now a year later, they are both ready to move on. Neither has dated anyone else in that time but they are "over" the previous relationship. Unbeknownst to them, they each applied at the Perfect Match Agency. Imagine their shock and surprise when their first perfect match turns out to be each other. This is their story. It was nice to see that the two of them eventually sat down and dissected why their relationship fell apart. When circumstances bring them further together, they have to decide to fight for each other or give into family demands. It is a light and low angst read. The story is written well and easy to read. I look forward to other books in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was another fun read from Merry Farmer and the Perfect Match Agency: Springtime, an offshoot of the fairly new Perfect Match series with 2 authors besides Merry Farmer. In this one, exes John and Michael are matched at an 88.8% reliability. Unfortunately, they thought the same first names (no last games given) was a coincidence. Nope, it was the exes that broke up a year ago. And, to make it even “better”, John went into heat at their “first date”. Michael, being the caring person he is, immediately took care of John. The pharmacy visit later was so funny, I was laughing out loud several times. Same for the zoo visit.
Both discovered through talking and some self reflection that miscommunication and no communication was a big cause of their breakup, giving them a path forward to get back together.
Relatable characters, relatable problems internal and external, supportive family on one side, the family from Hades on the other, toddlers, polar bears, and a HEA. A short, entertaining read for a lazy rainy afternoon.

This sweet book was so fun to read. John and Michael were lovers, roommates, together for 4 years but the last year was terrible. Family pressures on Michael's side, miscommunication on both sides, has them going their separate ways. But John wants a family, kids, a home and a picket fence to boot. With his next heat coming up he decides to join the Perfect Match Agency to find his perfect match. After getting a score of 88.8 % to a guy named Michael, he goes on a lunch date. His surprise it it's his old Michael, and he wants a mate too. After going to therapy after their breakup, he is ready to date again. Surprise, surprise... it's John. Both have instant heats/ruts and bingo.... John is pregnant!
John possibly might lose his job for being a pregnant, unmarried omega teacher, Michael, tired of being unloved by his parents, hating his job and being told what to do for years, both men have a lot of issues to overcome, but a baby makes everything better.

A dating match brings back together ex mates John and Michael a year after a breakup of in a 5 year relationship. Things quickly spiraled out if control between them and they're both been left hurt by it. An sudden heat brings them back together intimately and then there's consequences. As they slowly work towards being involved once again they both realize they equally played a part in their relationship imploding. Neither were completely honest with the other. Michael's family are absolutely horrible but thankfully he's getting help in order to become a better person and learn how to let go of that toxic situation. John for his part wasn't aware of the situation because Michael never explained and now he's going to discuss things in a better manner. I loved how mature they became and it was wonderful seeing them grow both individually and together.
John broke up with Michael - his partner of five years - a year ago and hasn't been with anyone since. Unfortunately as an omega, his next heat is due and he needs to get out there again. He's been matched by the Perfect Match Agency with another man at a high score of eighty-eight-point-eight percent. Ironic considering it was his ex's lucky number. Arriving at the date, he's shocked firstly to find it's his ex, secondly, it throws him into heat and alpha, Michael, into a rut. It's a bit of a comedy of errors from here, whilst at the same time, a reconciliation as Michael has attended therapy for his family issues and John has realised he could've worked harder to resolve things. It's really good fun. The part at the parent group zoo outing where they babysit Aiden is hilarious and I imagine lots of parents or guardians have been through similar things. It's also a lovely and sweet HEA after quite a few challenges.
“I’ll just leave the two of you to your little first date here.”
I'm so happy that another Perfect Match series is out. I was sad to see the previous one end. It's also nice that two new authors are part of this new multi-authored series.
This is book 1 in the Perfect Match Agency: Springtime series by MM Farmer. When I saw this book pop up on Booksprout I just had to have it. I loved all the books in the last series and was excited to see this first book was available in this new version of the series.
What a sweet feel good story. After being broken up for a year these two exes get matched at an 88.8% match rate by the Perfect Match Agency. Imagine their shock when they discover who their perfect match was.
Demanding toxic family, hurt feelings, miscommunication, an emergency heat, a rut, mpreg, polar bears
I loved the first books of the Perfect Match series and I am glad the authors decided to carry on.
This is a second chance story which is done very well. John and Michael have both made mistakes and despite a quite short book, they are shown working through them and communicating properly to ensure they can try again and be the family they always wanted.
John is obviously cautious and it's great to see how Michael is standing up to him when his awful parents coming up.
You have your standard Omegavers set up like in the first books, there is not a lot of surprises how the story starts when the blind date of two perfect people happens. But it is so much more than just smut, the heat is actually just a really small part of their journey back together.

John & Michael parted a year ago after five years together & both go to the Perfect Match Agency where they are paired with a 88.8 match. Imagine their surprise when they arrive for their date to find they are matched with each other. Things only get worse when John comes into heat. Now we have a far bigger problem than suddenly seeing each other after a year. We have a baby on the way and a mountain of baggage to sort through if we’re going to build a life for him. A lovely second chance romance & the first in a new multi author series. I loved both Michael & John, both had made mistakes but both are prepared to work at their relationship even taking a toddler to the zoo. I loved how Michael stood up to his father & how they are honest with each other. A very well written quick read which I read in a sitting & loved My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Not a bad second chance story. Everything moves extremely quickly, but I like how they acknowledge it instead of brushing over it.
Michael and John didn’t do things the right way for them the first time around, but now they have another chance and are armed with new techniques to help them. And they are actively working hard to make things right.
It was a bit OTT in some areas. There were lots of references to hockey which Michael wanted to pursue but his family disagreed with. When those came up it took me out of the story. And at the end when Michael’s family barged in at the hospital and then just stayed during diagnosis, total HIPAA violation, but I’m trying to remember this isn’t our world and they might not have patient information rights? Idk.
4.5 stars This is an enjoyable story with plenty of emotions, some laughs, tough decisions, an inevitable, unending love, and a sweet HEA. John and Michael started out having an amazing relationship, but life and other stresses created too much angst, and they reacted, rather than communicated. Their second chance journey has them both trying, hitting some bumps along the way, but eventually succeeding and connecting on a deeper level than before. Despite this being a shorter book, the author did a great job showing the conflicts, struggles, and resolutions the MC's went through, as well as the love they never stopped feeling.

John and Michael ended their five-year relationship a year ago, but they unexpectedly found themselves reunited through the Perfect Match Agency. To their surprise, they discovered that they were matched with each other for a date, with an 88.8% compatibility score. However, their reunion takes a complicated turn when John reveals that he is pregnant, causing a deeper issue. Now, they must work together to build a life for their child, despite their rocky history. They are willing to put in the effort to make their relationship work, even taking a toddler to the zoo together. The story showcases a heartwarming second-chance romance, highlighting the characters' growth and honesty with each other. Michael stands up to his father, and the couple is committed to open communication, exploring themes of reconciliation and rebuilding trust. Overall, the book offers a well-written, engaging read that captivates the reader from start to finish.
The Ex Match by MM Farmer is one of my favorite second chance romances. John and Michael are compelling characters who actually realize the mistakes they made in their first attempt at a relationship, and they’re willing to do the work needed. Farmer is one of the best at letting us into her characters’ psyches.
I only took one break while reading this book, and that’s was because I had to work. I loved the way their dynamics evolved over the course of the story! Michael’s parents and brother are definitely toxic. I was cheering for Michael toward the end of the book.
I strongly recommend giving this book a read!.
