About the author

Hilary Bader was born in Brooklyn, and attended State University in Stony Brook with a major in Mathemathics. She also studied Mime in Paris and toured with Edmond Felix. She was a fan of Star Trek, and relocated to California to become a freelance script writer.

Primarily writing for Star Trek series, Bader rolled into DC productions when she wrote "Chi of Steel", and episode of Lois & Clark. She was asked aboard the writing staff for the DCAU, and contributed to their shows until her death.

Hilary Bader died in 2002 from metastasized breast cancer. She was married to Jay Broad.

As good as I remember

Watched the series as a kid, making my way through the comics as an adult and the story is as good as I remember. Looking forward to reading them all.

Great comic

Love Terry McGinnis. He's started so young as batman. Happy to see they made this into a comic series. I missed bat man beyond!

Reading this comic brought back memories of watching the cartoon when I was in high school. I remember the sneak peek on a Sunday night lasted an hour.

I think the comic was more informative than the cartoon, being that a scene takes place prior to Bruce's last time wearing the suit. Plus, it'd been better if Terry's girlfriend had a backup story.

That was my life as a teenager: Hit the books when finals were approaching but have fun with close friends on the weekend. Always hit the books! LIVE & LEARN!!!

I never grew up watching the series so I don’t have any opinions on the character. It’s good to read about a new iteration of Batman from a story that came out before I was born.

Except that this story sucks.

The writing is bad. So bad that it’s hard to follow. Time jumps and setting changes don’t help that’s there’s no transition card either. This whole comic gives me a feeling that it’s a screenplay written as a comic for the show. ‘Doesn’t really make sense on paper but it would be great for the big screen.’

I’m not wasting my time reading this. I’ll watch the show instead.

Decent start

I only ever watched a few episodes of Batman Beyond as a kid, but I've wanted to go back and watch it for a while. I decided I'd look into the comics for now, and here we are.

The art is quirky; I dig it well enough. The dialogue isn't bad. Some definitely shows its `90s "charm."

Decided it was time to pull these books out and go through this series. This is the first of a two parter to set the stage for the series. Solid start. The Batman Beyond comics were never huge sellers but for the most part were well done and entertaining. If you enjoyed the animated series this is a fine book to read.

A somewhat condensed adaptation of the first episode. It does capture the essence of the story, but I was really bothered by the out of place moment when, after Terry feels bad about his dad’s death and calls himself a jerk, his little brother says “You’ve got that right” with a smile.

Included opening bit, done for the comic. If you are starting on BB without series knowledge, is a great jumping on point.

Oh man, I've always been a massive fan of the Batman series and when Batman Beyond aired back in the day, I was hooked instantly. The comic follows the first episode at a T which isn't surprising as it was release about the same time as the TV show was, but that doesn't take away the pleasure of reading it. In fact, my first introduction to the pilot episode was via the comic as I wasn't always home in time for the episodes. I love the adventures that Terry goes through as well as the father/mentor relationship Bruce has with him as time passes. The villains are creative and the possible future world of Gotham is simular and yet different enough so that it feels like it fits together with the animated series. If you ever get a chance to read them, I would sugguest it, even if it's just to encourage young readers to read or just to relive a bit of the joy of one's childhood all over again.
