Are you really happy with where you are in your life or could things be a lot different? Have you struggled to obtain a goal or have you just “maintained?” Have you used the gifts and talents that your Creator gave you or you just ambling along with no real thought for direction? To succeed you must have a vision. You must absolutely know what you have been called to do and then take steps toward it. Has your habit been, like everyone else, “Whatever!” Or deep down inside your soul is there a fight to the finish happening about what you are going to do with the rest of your life. Well, if it is the latter, you are reading the right document. There is something better for you than just a mundane existence. You have to want it, though. You have to hunger for all that your life is mean to be.Colin Powel once said, “If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.” Success begins with excellence in little things. It then transfers to bigger matters in life. All success begins with the correct attitude. In our lives attitude matters. If you are tackling a small reason for frustration and you tackle it with a good attitude then you will be prepared for those things that give you much grief. It’s all about the habit you develop of a good attitude. The prophet Isaiah shares a moment in history when Lucifer said, “I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God” (14:13, ESV). However, Jesus said, “I will surrender the trappings of power and will obey God even unto a criminal’s death.” What a contrast! God commented back to His Son, “Because You have humbled Yourself, I will raise You to the heights of heaven.” Pride can be good or bad. We can have the kind of pride that makes us strive for excellence in all that we do.Or we can exhibit the pride that pushes others under our feet and step on them. That kind of selfish pride will ultimately get us nowhere except very alone at the top of a very deserted place. No one follows a leader very long that they can’t trust. Wisdom, however, is the first step to achievement. Intelligent people do not usually say much. They usually are all about listening and learning and helping others learn. They usually choose humility over boasting.Most people who talk a lot about “having it all” usually don’t. Many are just pretenders, wanting to be recognized and praised by others. Humility goes hand-in-hand with honor. And honor usually means success. Think carefully about where you want to be as you read this document. Are you willing to settle for just a look-a-like of success? Or do you want to experience the real thing? One will build you up only and cause you to take detours through life, never really enjoying the great scenery and beautiful places. The other gives you true honor and joy. It’s your choice. As you read, choose wisely.
