This was a book based on the concept that instead of the Ancient Egyptian civilization disappearing, it continued and magic and science worked hand and hand. The great European conquerors never appeared and the world was vastly different social make-up due to this.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and read it with the intention of giving a fair and honest review.
The premise of the book was good and the plotting was handled fine. The overall editing was a bit choppy and I think that with a bit of tightening it would read better. I got confused trying to figure out what came and why several times and that is not a real good way to launch into a book. I have known people that would not care for a book that has both a preface and a prologue. In some ways the book felt more in line with a teen read except for the sex scenes which were way above the teen level and some of the vocabulary used. With that bit of criticism over with, the book held me my interest long enough that I read all the way through without flipping to the back or skimming parts. The characters were reasonably fleshed out and you do pull for the main character to have a better life. The 'villains' are not totally one-dimensional. Most of the characters are neither bad nor good but a mix of selfish and twisted reasoning that make them seem more human for it.
I liked and gave it a solid 3 stars.
