Shyla Colt is the sassy USA Today Bestselling author of the popular series Kings of Chaos and Dueling Devils M.C. This genre-hoppers stories feature three of her favorite things: strong females, pop culture, and alternate routes to happy ever after. Listening to her Romani soul, she pens from the heart, allowing the dynamic characters, eccentric interests, and travels as a former flight attendant to take her down untraveled roads. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, this mid-west girl is proud of her roots. She used her hometown and the surrounding areas as a backdrop for a number of books. So, if you're a Buckeye, keep an eye out for familiar places.
As a full-time writer, stay at home mother, and wife, there's never a dull moment in her household. She weaves her tales in spare moments and the evenings with a cup of coffee or tea at her side and the characters in her head for company.
Ford just could not move on from his wife's death in a plane crash two years prior. He was struggling day to day to get out of the doldrums of grief. It was not until he ran into a former church member Kerry who also can to the church late that night to pray too. Merry remembered his deceased wife Trisha and decided to help be Ford's life coach. When Kerry's misfortunes and last life came back to haunt her, it was Ford's turn to rescue her. Being around Kerry ignited a spark Ford thought died with his wife. Merry long thought that with her last no man would want her. With Ford, she felt loved and needed.
Even though this short story was fast moving, it was a heart warming read that two people who were brought together by tragic life events can find love and nurturing support with each other.
Through tragedy and circumstances beyond their control they found true love. The ringing of redemption in scripture to the real life promise. They had ugly childhoods due to addicts for parents. The Lord brought them to him and they healed. Death and uncertainty happened. The church brought them together because it was time for real joy to return. I loved this story. They grew in love and did not give into desire until after marriage. There was no hiding or denying the attraction and passion but they did not let that rule them. The coming together in marriage was a complete testament to God's gift of becoming man and wife.
I wanted a bit more story because it was so short and I was intrigued by their past lives but I like the fact that they appreciated their pasts and helped each other move into a new future. I just wanted a bit more story.
As I was reading this book I kept think it reminded me of a Christian Contemporary Romance but with a more risquéness to it.. Overall it was interesting story to a point but I wasn't really impressed with it. There seemed like there was missing sections.
This is not a typical Shyla book. It is different and it seems to this reader that she was trying a different route with her writing which was unexpected for me personally.
Overall I can honestly say this was a 3.5 star read..
