Ten years ago, when Eve Townsend was seventeen years old, Tightrope killed her family and took her younger sister, Maddie. Eve was left alive - the only survivor. After inheriting her family's fortune, Eve has dedicated her life to tracking down Tightrope, training her body and mind, honing her skills, using every resource at her disposal to hunt down Tightrope ... and others like him.
The latest clue in Tightrope's twisted game brings Eve to Washington, D.C., where middle-aged men have been abducted, held for a week, then dumped after being boiled alive. Eve teams up once again with Special Agent Parker, who has pulled strings to get her on the team as a consultant.
But Eve has her own way of investigating. And she must work quickly because the latest victim of the Boiler is the brother of Agent Darren Cady - Agent Parker's FBI partner. Was he taken to get Eve there? Will the next clue be there when she finds him? Follow Eve on her latest descent into the dark underworld of serial killers.
Another thrilling adventure packed with adrenaline, featuring the spirited Eve Townsend as she chases after the enigmatic Tightrope. The story is fast-paced and suspenseful, and while we’re still searching for Eve’s sister and the true identity of Tightrope, it’s still a fantastic read. I’m really hoping there’s a book four, and Mark Lukens can keep us on the edge of our seats.
Being better than the last book is like getting 2nd to last place in a race. I'll give the author credit for coming up with new and inventive bad guys. But the biggest problem is the mystery, or mysteries, spanning the series. There are too many unanswered questions. And the number of questions grows with each book instead of the number of answers growing. I want to finish the series to know what Tightrope's grand plan is but my God the author is making me work and wait for it. There's two entire chapters dedicated to giving a lengthy back story to a character who's only purpose is to find a body. It seems initially like this person is going to end up a victim, but it turns out she's just in the book to find the next victim's body. This was a total waste of time. These two chapters could have been condensed into a few paragraphs. It's bloat like this that has filled this series. It's completely unnecessary. At one point Eve says she can't tell Parker everything about a previous case because it could put him in a bad position. Two paragraphs later she tells him everything. Cady seems like the only normal character. His dialogue isn't terrible and he acts like a normal person put in a horrible situation. Eve finds a clue in the egg from the previous book that is one of the most convenient clues for her but also a wild leap in logic that I've ever read. I'm interested to see what the next book will be but I've given up hope the series will get any better
What can one say about Mark Lukens that hasn’t already been said. So I’ll just add to the accolades that his followers haven’t already said, by the way I’m a follower. He reaches into a part of you that we all keep hidden even from ourselves and writes what we all need to hear, and that is that even though you think you know what’s around the corner, You don’t. All good guys/girls will persevere no matter what the odds. No matter if we say to ourselves we can’t, Mark proves we can. Never give up the fight, no matter what challenges we face, when we are at our lowest point is when we can do it. All I can say is Thanks Mark, on to the next thrilling book by Mark. Ps I’ll never eat boiled hot dogs again
I binge read all three books and each story was as good if not better than the previous one. Eve Townsend is the Ellen Ripley of serial killer hunters. She is motivated by her family having been murdered 10 years ago by a killer named Tight Rope, never caught. Now she hunts these monsters spurred on by enigmatic messages from someone who says they are Tight Rope. He plays a game with innocent and not innocent lives and Eve solves each riddle to get closer to finding him. Great series.
I would give it an 8 out of 10. I felt like there was still some missing pieces that was never answered. She never got closure on her sister Maddie. I was really hoping for her to be reunited or find her sister’s body, but nothing. But, this book is not as good as the first book written by him.
I finished this amazing read last night! I absolutely LOVE this series. Boiling Point by Mark Lukens - Part 3 of the Eve Townsend Serial Killer Hunter Series brought me more questions than answers. I do not know how I am going to wait for book 4! The characters and plot are well developed. The thriller value I give a 10! I must mention the female lead, Eve. She is broken, yet so well put together and ready for action. She is composed yet on the edge. Tough and ready to kill those most depraved , yet soft and fragile. If you liked Silence of the Lambs then this is a series you must read! One of the BEST psychological thrillers I have read in the last year. Go check it out!
