Experience the true satisfaction and power of living unselfishly with #1 New York Times bestselling author and renowned Bible teacher Joyce Meyer.
As we go about our daily lives, there is a little voice in our minds that’s always asking, “What about me?” Maybe your voice says, “When is it my turn to be noticed at work?” or “When will someone in this family do something for me?” That voice may be whispering to you about your finances, your job, or your friends, but it is always encouraging you to think about something you don’t have. And sadly, social media and culture in general lead us to focus on this world’s concept of happiness and success—but does it work?
Could you be sabotaging your own joy, your purpose, your success? What could you do to get out of your own way? And most importantly, what is God’s definition of success? The Bible tells us over and over that the true source of meaning and happiness is a life focused on God and on serving others. Instead of asking when it will be our turn to get a raise, be recognized, or finally make it big, it’s time to discover the source of true and lasting of happiness and satisfaction.
By walking in this path, we will have more joy and a closer relationship with God than we could ever imagine!

I have read several books written by Joyce Meyer, so I was anxious to read "What About Me? : Get Out of Your Own Way and Discover the Power of an Unselfish Life."
"Some people dream of success, but others wake up and work hard at it" (pg. 155).
This book is filled with Bible verses, inspirational quotes, excerpts/references to other Christian books and pages of personal stories and testimonies. The author challenges us to consider the lies that we believe... that feelings don't always tell us the truth, and there is an entire section devoted to hearing from God.
"We need to understand that there is a difference between what we want, what we think, what we feel, and God's will" (pg. xi).
Part One is: Learning to Love. Part Two: Getting Out of Your Own Way Part Three: Becoming an Obedient Follower of Jesus Part Four: The Unexpected Path to Joy Part Five: "It's Really Not About Me"
"We need to remember that our happiness is our responsibility, not anyone else's" (pg. 18).
Each Chapter begins with a Bible verse.
"Live to give, not to get, and you will be a happy person" (pg. 168).
In Chapter Two, Joyce shares the reasons people become self-focused. In Chapter Three, she lists Bible verses that can strengthen us in our war against the flesh. In Chapter Four, there are twelve ways of thinking that will be beneficial to us. In Chapter Seven, Joyce points out several differences between the Spirit and the flesh. In Chapter Thirteen, the author shares situations where we can prefer others above ourselves. In Chapter Twenty-One, the author lists three specific ways to express love to others.
"God will work with us and use us for His glory" (pg. 137).
5 Stars! I highly recommend this book!

This book was what I needed at this time. Sometimes we are so focused on our problems that we forget about other people. The world is full of problems that if you look beyond yourself you can make the world better for others. In the end by focusing on others brings some joy to you. I needed that reminder. Life gets tough but it gets easier if you focus on other people than yourself. It’s a Biblical principle that we often forget about. To wash the feet of the disciples. I know as a Mother it’s easy to forget about yourself as you are caring for another individual. You get lost in that unconditional vulnerability of a being. It shows up without any restrictions this aspect. I think it’s God given. In caring about others we ultimately care about ourselves as we love others through the lens of God.
This book has truly changed my way of thinking in so many ways. I have gone about life, like most people, thinking the 'right' thing is the selfish thing and finding the answers to all my 'what about me' questions. What about my happiness? What about what I want? What about how I feel? When truth of the matter is, as Joyce Meyer lays out in this book, we are never the main character - Jesus is. God is. The Holy Spirit is. His will for our lives to give thanks in all circumstances and His two greatest commandments to love Him with all our hearts, strength and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves are the main purposes of life. When looking at life from a lens of lack and forever search of self-fulfillment, of course you will always find reasons to be unhappy. But this book taught me that greater joy is found in seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, loving others, and trusting Him to provide our needs is the way to go. His plans are going to be far greater for us than the things we think will be solutions to our 'what about me' questions. This book is stellar rather you are a 'baby Christian' new in your walk in Christ or are further along in your relationship with Him. I highly, highly recommend!
reading this book by joyce meyers definitely changed my perspective on what i thought , "dying to self" really meant. i would definitely recommend this book to anyone struggling with selfishness , as i also always had questions that were mainly self centered based. i'm glad i got to see unselfishness through a different lense. 💕
Joyce does it again. I had a hard time putting it down. I feel like all of her books are very well worded and written in a way that is easy for me to understand.
if you’re trying to grow a strong relationship with God or learn how to forgive and love better this book is for you! learn so much in this book & about myself. i totally recommend!
This was a fantastic book that really allowed me to take a hard look at my life and see ways I can better improve and ask God for help to be better and more unselfish to those around me. It's not about casting away everything you love and living a lowly servant life - it's about being prepared for whatever God asks of you, and that will mean sacrifice at some point. And it definitely means being a servant. But remembering who you serve is the best part of all of it - a God who loves you and will bless you.
I have definitely struggled with selfishness my whole life, and I was encouraged to see how to better stand up against those tendencies and surrender to the One who loves me, trusting He will guide me to do what is right and take care of those around me with a full heart.
And it's not about perfection, because I know there will be times that I fail, but it's about trusting God with the process.
This was a very inspiring and eye opening read. It really showed me where I was selfish. Along with how hypercritical I can be to God, myself, and others. I highly recommend this book of you really want to face and understand how we are selfish, and how our selfishness can be a hinderance to our personal growth. Along with our relationship with Christ our Lord and Savior!!
Finally, a book that talks about what it really looks like to be a Christ follower and how God transforms us but by it and our responsibility in the process. That this life is a process, we are not alone and we don’t have to have it all figured out. Evidence that during this process, that we can have joy, laughter, and prosperity as we “get out of our own way”.
Very Helpful in me seeing God's way of doing Life is better. My favorite book is Healing the Soul of a Woman but this was Awesome and helpful too. So was Battlefield of the Mind. Do recommend to get this book so worth it.
I’ve read many of Joyce Meyer’s books, and they’re always impactful. I picked up What About Me? at just the right moment. It’s a powerful reminder to live with a selfless heart—and in doing so, to honor God.
This book is very insightful and I loved the scriptures in this one. The way Joyce Meyer incorporates her personal life stories into her novels is amazing.
This was a great book especially to read a second time and I learned so much from reading it and was reminded so much I forgot! 😊 I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to die to self
This book was a fast and easy read, organized into 5 chapters and twenty-two chapters. I enjoy reading all of Joyce Meyers' publications, as I always learn something new.
Feels like a warm conversation with an experienced godly woman. She gives her perspective, and there's something worth taking away from how to live a less selfish life without neglecting yourself.
