Was gifted this while ago and needed a super easy read so decided to give it a go. Weirdly paced, way too long, and poorly constructed - by far the most errors I’ve found in a book (I refuse to believe anyone actually edited this, feels super rushed). First 200 pages were so tough to get through, but found the final 150 pages kind of fun (narrowly escaped a 1 star). Finished it last night and it’s already left my brain. Also not one but two (2) yo mamma jokes (and they’re both fucking terrible).

Anyone who has read the previous titles in the Wilde-Chase series generally know they're in for roller-coaster action, but this book takes a while to get there and even then it just doesn't seem to hit the notes as effortlessly as the earlier books.

The first half seems extraordinarily slow while we deal with setup; nor is it helped by the focus on Macy who seems to be written as mostly a cardboard cut-out generic character. However, once we get past the setup, with Nina and Eddie getting to Turkmenistan the pacing steps up to what we would normally expect.

Also not up to scratch is the Eddie-Nina banter. Eddie has some good one liners, but the banter between the two main characters is missing it's usual spark.

A reasonably satisfying, but not edge-of-the-seat electrifying read.

McDermott to me is like a better version of James Rollins. This book is superior to the Resurrection Key. In that he had action scenes that were way too prolonged and exhaustive to the reader, almost like a Transformers movie. Here he gets more to the point and what matters, although the scenes in the Iron Palace could've been dialed back. The book is 500 pages, when it could have easily been 350-400, so his publisher must be the one with the demand for the page count. People live busy lives these days and don't have time to delve into something that could take a day to read but ends up being weeks. The train scene is good, keeps you turning the pages, and McDermott is exceptionally good at creating villains you love to hate. You just can't wait to see how Chase or Nina, or even someone else defeats the villain and this book does that in spades! Still, to me, I love the Revelation Code and King Solomon's Curse, those will always be my favorites by this author! McDermott has a knack for this genre and knows how to deliver the goods better than almost anyone! He never ceases to amaze! But, if he's planning a spinoff series for Macy, which seems to be where he's leaning, I won't be reading that, the Wilde and Chase series was good enough and will never be duplicated.

fantasy to the max

It took a little time to get into this one, with some far fetched antics, and jumping into a futuristic work, yet with some things unchanged. The story built, but still took some work to get through to the real action. It seems that every historic find of Nina’s gets destroyed,so no surprises here. Lots of adventure, and the bad guys are stopped. The speed certainly increased as the story climaxed.

One error - Eddy climbed out of the sinkhole and found the satellite connection - ringing people on his phone. Yet when the others arrived and Nina asked if he had rung Macy, he reached for the phone and realised that he had lost it in the iron castle. A few pages later he had the phone again. ?????
Anyway, a good read! Now, what’s next?

Nina and Eddie are back for another attention-grabbing, high stakes ride. This time venturing back across some of the other stories and saved artefacts, they find themselves against a new enemy, once with resources and means that vastly outweigh their own. This is everything you want from the series, the author and our main characters. A gripping read.

My only gripe, and a minor one at that, is the subplot with Marcy isn’t interesting enough to take up as much time as it does and despite the authors best efforts recently she still irks me more and more as a character. Thankfully not enough to take the shine of an otherwise great story.

Nearly gave this three stars because the beginning of the book is too heavily focused on Macy rebelling against her parents. It comes around at the end but it felt forced, and she did things that just don’t seem to be in character.

There is a magical staff that can control the weather. Nina and Chase search for it while at the same time Macy who has joined a group that say their aim is to protect the attendants are also looking for it. All of this happens while everybody is being manipulated by a mixture of Elon musk and Zuckerberg from space (which was a nice twist but the ending was telegraphed way to easily)

You know what you're getting into with one of these novels, they're quick predictable reads that are like a comfortable action movie. The bad guy is obvious, the different acts can be seen mile away and the end of the story you can guess at the start. It doesn't mean they're bad by any means and this one was enjoyable but it's still more of the same with everyone having on the strongest plot armor in existence. This was a nice summer read though and if you go in knowing what they are you won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed the story but felt it should have been edited to make it shorter, so I tended to skip read. It was the first book I had read by the author and I really liked the characters. I would also like to say ( as someone from Yorkshire) that I am sure we don't say "Ay up" as much as Eddie does!
Action packed and I liked the fantasy element.
I would try others in the series to see what they were like.

The underlying story was typical Wilde and Chase, but overall The Knights of Atlantis fell flat compared to prior adventures. A big part of this was the amount of focus on daughter, Macy, who is just an incredibly unlikeable character; as with the previous book in the series, her presence is a distraction and makes the story less enjoyable. Hopefully future books will revert back to a focus on Wilde and Chase, with Macy taking (a very far) backseat, or even better yet, simply not appearing!

Andy McDermott at his very best. Loved all the twists and turns. What an adventure. I hope you get to make a film or two about Nina, Eddie Macy et al...

Such an imagination . The reference to old and new technologies really helped the story and characters be brought to life.

ABORTED For this series to make sense it must be read in publication order. I will return to Chase + Wilde in the future. Between Books 13 and 17 there is a lot happening I know NOTHING about.

Enjoyable Wilde and Chase book

This is an enjoyable and exciting book, I'm just not enjoying the new books as much as the old, I think it's the focus on Macy as I haven't connected with her as a character yet. But still a good book.

Nina & Eddie do not disappoint! I will admit to some laugh out loud moments…. I’m not sure if they were intentional though!! Fun filled harmless romp.

Not as good as the earlier books but still a decent read, wasn't too keen on the futuristic stuff though, i found this was less about Eddie and Nina and more about Macy

Back to his best! As usual things always seem to work out but this was a much stronger storyline than the last couple of Nina and Eddie tales.

Gripping

Was not sure about the beginning but I was soon gripped and then I couldn't put it down. Just as good as ever always waiting for the next one.

Fun read

Different in many ways, often seemingly absurd but McDermott somehow pulls it off. Worth a read. Eddie is his typical self.

A lot of action, but the story was dragged out and rather predictable. Not my kind of reading but I’m sure some would enjoy.

I really enjoy this series, both Nina and Eddie are a lot of fun, and as I speak English as a second language, I really like the dialects of the different characters. There is a lot of action in the books, and I enjoy that all of the adventures are based on historical myths and legends. In this book we also get to follow the daughter, and I guess she will play a bigger part in upcoming books. I will definitely keep reading the books as long as they come out.

Wow! I felt like I was listening to two novels in one. The way Andy McDermott weaved Nina and Eddie's adventure with Macy's own, was an extremely satisfying thrill ride. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book and lose yourself in the harrowing world of adventure archaeology!
