Fairies & Vampires & Wolves... Oh my?Blue is just your average run-of-the-mill girl. Well, other than a predilection toward sarcasm, a strange affinity for naming inanimate objects, and a seemingly overabundant knowledge of movie quotes, that is... Okay, so she has a few other abilities that can’t be explained or even rationalized as well, but that doesn’t make her anything more than human… Does it?

After meeting an enigmatic Master of Ceremonies—who is definitely more than what he appears—and an exceptionally sexy lead singer of a band called Ethereal Mutation, who along with his signature grin, seems to have fangs of all things, Blue can’t help but have her doubts about being human after all.

As the two men draw her into a hidden world, one where myths and legends start coming to life, Blue soon finds herself at the center of a controversy that’s been brewing for centuries. With unknown enemies hiding in the shadows, tensions continue to mount when an archaic tradition that hasn’t been enacted in over a millennium is suddenly resurrected, and it seems Blue has unwittingly just become a participant in this dangerous competition.

As long-held secrets are revealed, and a past she can’t remember begins to take shape, it quickly becomes a race against time for Blue to discover just who and what she is before it’s too late.

If you’re a fan of Darynda Jones, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kim Harrison, Jennifer Armentrout, or Charlaine Harris you’re going to love this humorous, fast-paced urban fantasy meets paranormal romance series. With elements of magic, mystery, action, mythology, and even a little spice, Carolina Blue is sure to leave you questioning if a world like this really does exist alongside the human race...

CAROLINA BLUE

I was actually inspired to read this book after coming across Heather's videos on Facebook.... "Trying to visualize." I absolutely love those videos & and I was drawn in to check out her writing.
This book was filled with magic: vampir, fae, shifters, royalty, and more!
I found the dialogue witty and fun. The story itself was multi-layered, with a few twists thrown in that were surprising!
I can't wait to start the next book!!

For a first novel Heather Bartleson did not disappoint!!

Great character entrance and tension building! The pace is fast but not so much that anything comes out of nowhere! Was afraid I stumbled upon my first Why chose by accident and was not even mad if that would have been the case!

Heather brings us in a nice world where the standard is reinvented! I was surprised, i cried, laugh and got mad with or for Carolina 😅. Everything was nicely put together and now I can't wait for the next book!

This book was a surprising delight. The world Bartleson built here feels somewhere between the delights of Carnival Row, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Wonder Woman or Elektra, both keeping ties to the modern day world while suffusing it with the magic and mystery of a variety of novel approaches to Fae species and abilities and Greek mythology.

Although there was a little too much exposition being told to us through dialogue between the characters at the outset, which felt a little forced, the writing style is descriptive and addictive, and it improves as the novel progresses. The story arc was well crafted, and I was caught up in the flow of the heroine's journey. Blue, the FMC, is equal parts badass, sexual, and vulnerable, and I loved exploring this world through her experiences.

My biggest regret was that, in developing the relationships between characters as she did, the author didn't devote a lot of time to any subplots beside political intrigues and catty power grabbing efforts. It had the potential to be so much more than just a romantasy; I could feel where the author could have created so much more of a rich tapestry, but it didn't quite find the extra threads to make it so. This puts this novel at a solid 3.5 for me, as it was so fun to read and yet gauzy compared to the story I felt could have been there.

All that said, I found myself unwilling to put it down, and am eager to read the next in the series!

There is a lot to like in this debut novel about a human discovering she’s something more. Blue is the kind of character that I enjoy reading about, she’s smart, snarky, and not afraid to throw a punch or a punchline. The worldbuilding in this story is a great blend of urban fantasy and romantasy that feels fresh. Romantic tension is a big part of this story, and I was impressed by how it unfolded. It was a good twist, and the pairing worked. I also thought this had plenty of humor that landed well and kept me engaged in the story.

The pacing is a bit uneven. It’s lightning-fast in the beginning, smoother in the middle, and a bit abrupt at the end. However, I’m happy that book two is out to help soothe the hangover. I do wish Blue’s female friendships had played a bigger part in the story. I also have questions about gender roles within the trials and power structures that I hope will be addressed in the next books.

I found out about this series through some very entertaining videos by the author, and I’m happy to say that I wasn’t disappointed. This is a very entertaining story with some pretty good twists. I’m looking forward to book 2 and book 3 coming out soon.

gripping from the start

I started to read four books before finally giving up from banality, then I picked this one up and couldn’t put it down.
I’ve wanted to read Heather’s books since I first found out about them but held them on the ‘Emergency list’. So glad those other boooks were boring because this one certainly was not.
The characters are immediately engaging and the situations are so well designed that the plot flows naturally. The writing also is just as descriptive so that you don’t have to think about what the characters are you just know them and can see them in your minds eye. This book was such a joy to read, I highly recommend it. But be warned you will have some sleepless nights just trying to finish it.

I just can't believe that this is the very first book written by this author! I am, admittedly, a huuuge fan of any supernatural stories. Anything that involves witches, demons, ghosts, shifter and my all time favs - vampires gets my undivided attention. Heather Bartleson sated my obsession with this fantastic story. She definitely ticked ALL the boxes! Picturesque descriptions, check. Character development, check. Snarky banter, check. The right amount of heat, check and double check! I will immediately move on to book two just to learn more about Blue and her powers. Oh, and what the future holds for her and that sexy vampire!

Loved it!

Excitement! Romance! Adventure! Mystery! Spice!

I actually found my way to this series thru Heather Bartleson's clips on Facebook using some very gorgeous men to illustrate what author means when they use certain descriptions.

Then I read that if you like Charlain Harris, and a few others I've read that you'd like The Blue Series. Right they were! In no time at all I was immersed in a world of fae, friends, family issues and other worldly powers.

I won't post any spoilers ... just take my word for it and check out both.... Facebook and this fabulous fun fae series.

Great Debut Novel and Start for a Series

I really enjoyed the world building in this debut novel. The editing was good, the story flowed and I’m looking forward to the next book. I usually read RH, but I tried this book because of the author’s writing videos on social media. I’m glad I did:)

incredible Read

What a fun rollercoaster of a ride: the characters, the dialogue, the feelings emitting from the pages, I truly enjoyed every moment spent reading this book. If you love the fae world, a sprinkle of the Hunger Games and Divergent, you will love this series.
