In the year 2524…

The decades-long war between humanity and the Kithoryhan Concord has ended, and in its aftermath, the millions of marines who battled across the stars for victory have returned to their homes battered, weary, and depleted.

Therapist Malcolm Garner has accepted an assignment from Central Command to counsel one of those marines; The war hero known to the populace as Kajan Venshakova.

But the bitter woman that he meets is nothing like the legend whose exploits have captured the imaginations of billions across the worlds of the Unified Human Alliance.

Pursuing greater insight of the warrior in his care, Malcolm enters into simulated recreations of her combat missions. And in them he will learn more about the true nature of the war than he ever thought possible…

I have no words to convey the experience of reading this

There is so much pain and frustration told in this anti war book. I want to weep. I want to rage. I want humans to evolve beyond violence and simple solutions. The idea that humans will carry the same old ideas and attitudes into the future and into interactions with other civilizations or intelligences clearly frightens the author and that fear resonates in my soul. Being one of the people that people in power cannot see or even imagine, I felt the growing horror of Kajan as she realized that military aren’t hero’s, they are sacrifices to the hubris of leaders scrambling to maintain their power and positions. The conceit of the psychologist! The smug certainty of the powerful built on lies and half truths. It will be hard to stop thinking about this one.

I did not finish. I just read the first 20 pages that are in the preview, and decided not to continue. This book might be good, but I did not get that impression from the preview, so seriously, booksellers. Include a longer preview!

As it is, all I got was description of a battle that wasn't very clear, since it was a space battle with strange technology that had to be explained. And it wasn't even the battle, but a simulation of the battle, so we got the description of the simulation technology as well. None of which was interesting. I know some authors who can make a battle interesting to read, but this wasn't it. I had hoped to reach something other than the battle within the preview, but the 2 pages that I was afforded were hardly more interesting. So. Perhaps this book becomes great after 20 pages. If that is the case, INCLUDE MORE IN THE PREVIEW!
As it is, I have to assume that the preview is representative of the book, and I didn't like it.

Democrat's wet dream.

A galactic UN, devices planted in your head so they can kill you if release information the government doesn't want released. Mandatory attendance at government rallies to get the official viewpoint or face large fines. Otherwise it was an interesting read

I was engrossed by the book. I kept wondering what the "secret" was. Then I was perplexed by the ending. I'm still not sure that I understand the ending.

A little long and drawn out, skipped pages yo get to the end. Overall not bad, just long.
