With this book Jayne Lockwood has become one of my auto-buy authors.
It's dark. It's twisted. It has a cartload of triggers. And I bloody loved it all.

This last instalment of the Switchblade series is the best of all. It can also be read as a standalone, but I recommend starting at the beginning so you get the full impact and backstory this builds on.

There is something about Jayne Lockwood's writing that not only gets readers instantly hooked but also keeps them turning pages late into the wee hours of the night.

Her characters may be one reason. All of them strong and fully fleshed out, practically leaping from the page. main and side cast included.

Take Richard for example. The ruthless mobster with a dark past, tormented by guilt and terrified shit will hit the fan and the happiness he's found will turn out to be nothing but an illusion. After all, thugs like him don't deserve a HEA. Or do they? Richard is the perfect villain you can love. Well... punch too, that is, if I'm to be honest, and more than occasionally to be exact.

Tino, his husband, on the other hand, is the sweetest ever! I swear I fell in love with him. He's such an endearing mix of gentle sweetness and admirable strength! To put it plain, he's downright sigh-worthy. Hot man candy with a heart of gold and irresistible charm.
I might have wanted to cuddle the daylights out of him at times and get him naked under my sheets at others.
Nope. You don't really need to get your mind out of the gutter. That's EXACTLY what I meant. :D

Marcus and Pagan are nothing less. Just as damn irresistible with their own particular strengths and charm. And little Gino is the sweetest!
But, as I already mentioned, the character strength doesn't stop with them. The side cast is just as real feeling, regardless of the page count they get. And that is something not every writer manages to achieve. A big Kudos for that from me.

But I was talking about that little something in Jayne Lockwood's writing that gets readers addicted to her tale.

Alongside the strength of her characters, she gives a solid plot. One with twists you don't see coming and scenes that will have you either biting your nails at the edge of the seat, tearing up or sighing and occasionally spewing coffee from suddenly laughing so hard. Seriously guys. No drinking anything while reading this book or you might give a bath to your kindles.
And that last line....

Well duck me running! There might be something wrong with me but no regrets because... I found it so damn fitting! The perfect end to a twisted tale I have come to love.

The narrative is another little something that makes this book a pleasure to read. Smooth, flowing, and elegantly irreverent.
And don't even get me started on the smut! Because that's the 'I need a cold shower!' kind of freaking hot. MM, MF, MMM, or MMF, you can take your pick. This book has it all. And of the best kind.

Then there's the insight into human nature. This writer knows her way into a character's head, especially when it comes to the spiral down into drug addiction and self harm. She pulls that off like a charm.

But in the end, if you ask me, it's a seamless combination in between all the above that sweep readers off their feet and make this tale stand out.

Aaand shit!
I made almost a novella of my review already and didn't tell you anything about the plot. But that's ok I guess, because you can get a pretty good idea of it from the blurb.
So I'll wrap it all up with a short 'what to expect' instead. A little heads up in case you decide to give this book a try.

A twisted tale jam packed with triggers.
Fabulous characters and a fast paced plot with nicely upped tension and twists you won't see coming, complete with a last line that may probably have you questioning your sanity.
And last, but by far not least, smoking hot smut and a hell lot of feeling.

Ties That Bind is a dark MM polyamorous tale of redemption, in which pain and sorrow are nicely balanced with smiles and laughter. A tale of mistakes made and risks taken, boundaries crossed and loyalties tested, strength proven and forgiveness granted. It is a love story of not one but 4 people that will tug on all your heartstrings and make you want more.

Bold and downright ballsy, gripping and addictive, Ties That Bind is the fix for any reader craving a badass dark and twisted read with a side of fun and sweet, and a large extra of smoking hot smut.

Thank you to the author for the gifted ARC.
This bad boy will hit the kindle shelves on October 1st and you can preorder it here

But here's why...

I loved every minute of this series, getting to know Richard and all he went through. Getting a good view of his story, the good, the bad, and the downright awful... All of it ended perfectly... I hope the other loyal readers agree with me there too.

Ex mafioso Richard is haunted by nightmares, he lacks self control and the only way to soothe his self destructive soul, he finds in the passion of his husband Tino, the man he truly loves.
Richard also loves his fiery ex Pagan and longs to see their son Gino as often as possible.
As it is not easy for Richard to win Pagan's heart back, he chooses a very destructive path, full of hate, jealousy and revenge.
The story is thrilling, dark and captivating, a brillant masterpiece from the author that had me hooked up from the first to the last page.
I felt with Richard and feared for his life as there is a glimpse of compassion and empathy in Richard's cold heart, not only for his family but also for the blue collor workers in his large company.
I loved Richard's dry humour, his passion and his never ending sex drive leading to a polyamorous romance with his loved ones.
Every page is saturated with passion and deep emotions, failure, forgiveness and hope towards a brighter future together.
I recommend to read the Closer Than Blood series to find out how Richard and Pagan met for the first time, thrilling and captivating, dark and sensual.
I also recommend to read the trigger warnings as this is a dark romance.
Darkness is filled with passion, beauty springs from despair to evolve into a unique piece of artwork where the broken pieces are sewn together with golden silk and look like beautiful scars that will never fade.
Clearly five stars for the talented author

This is the final book in the series and the author's do not disappoint! They do a terrific job bringing it all together as they take you into the lives of these men. They bring action along with the steam, throw in a few twists and turns, secrets and lies and deliver a fantastic conclusion for all. I loved this book/series and would recommend reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Escandalo!

This is the last book in the Switchblade Romance, sadly.
Lockwood takes the reader on one helluva ride, but then, with Richard at the wheel of a pimped-out Mercedes, you know you're going fast and stopping hard.

The mafia ties in this book are secondary and peripheral - and as much as I know a lot of people NEED the mafia storyline - this story is about what happens after.

The aftermath. And boy oh boy, what a mess.
Richard (Franco) is still riddled with mistrust and anger, and unable to cope, spirals to rock bottom. In comes Tino (who is utterly and completely fabulous), Marcus, and Pagan to once again pick up the pieces and help prop up Richard so that he may find his center, his balance, and his family.

The whole point of the story is Richard finding himself. Discovering where he is at his best. Lockwood interweaves multiple points of view in order to tell the tale, and it's nothing short of amazing. Be warned though - this is a dark tale, with lots of triggers. Self-harm, violence, death, homophobia, alcohol, and drug abuse.
But there are a ton of steamy scenes to offset it all.

By the end, you'll be shocked and left breathless.
What a tale!

What A Book! The writing in the Ties That Bind & the Switchblade Romance series is absolutely phenomenal! I love the whole atmosphere of the series. TTB is super steamy with a boatload of kink. The general feel of the book is dark and foreboding and CEO Richard Mason is a complex man to say the least. Absolutely thrilling to get inside of his head and see how he views relations with his co-workers and family/loved ones. I was glued to this book and I absolutely love how Jayne Lockwood laid out the events of Richards story and intertwined web of characters. The cast all add a different aspect to story and they compliment Richard and his doting husband Tino perfectly. I can't recommend this book enough and the Switchblade series. I would highly recommend reading the Closer Than Blood series first to get a better understanding and enjoyment out of this wild endeavour.

The finale! This book had everything! From Richard hitting rock bottom to a happily ever after I expected but never imagined the journey. I love all the characters, even Marcus who seemed a little blah to me. The “bedroom” scenes are scorching hot. The author knows how to write those, and keep a bold story around them. It’s my favorite series of this year. Hands down.

I was not sure what I was going to make of this book. I have seen the author’s posts on social media so I knew it would be explicit and contain scenes of sexual intimacy between same-sex couples. Whilst I am very broadminded and don’t care what people get up to in the privacy of their homes, I was unsure I wanted to read about it in a book. But I saw that the book was on sale, so I took a deep breath, bought it and read it in three days.

Is it explicit? Yes, very much so. Nothing is left to the imagination. Consider my comfort zone well and truly left behind and my claim to be broadminded put to the test. The characters are without limits when it comes to the range of sexual exploits the human body can explore. Sometimes I winced and thought “Surely that must hurt?” and there were times when my eyebrows rose so far, they disappeared into my hairline. There is violence and the characters go way beyond the bounds of normal, civilised behaviour.

But … but … but … It is extremely well-written. The prose is flawless and crisp, and the dialogue is realistic. The characters — for all their extreme behaviour — are all too achingly human in their wants, needs, and desires, and, sadly, in their flaws and frailties. This is a book about the depths the human soul can descend to. The pain we can inflict upon others and, more tellingly, upon ourselves. We only hurt the ones we love and nowhere is this saying truer than in this book.

As a parent, I monitored the books my child read until she was thirteen, and then, other than a broad knowledge of the type of books she was reading, I let her explore the world through literature. I have always believed that books are a safe way of living other lives and experiencing things we may never get the chance to try in real life. To restrict oneself to books that only jibe with our beliefs, morals, and lifestyle inhibits our ability to learn and grow. It does not allow us to expand and broaden our horizons in a controlled and safe environment.

Do I wish to live the life of these characters? No. Well, I wouldn’t mind some of their money. But that is the point. This book allowed me a glimpse into another world and in the process, it broadened my mind a little further. All books should either educate or entertain. This book did both. Oh, I know the pearl clutches, the prudes, the narrow-minded, and the downright scared won’t like or even try to like books like this on principle. That is their choice. But maybe if we all attempted to push ourselves outside of our little literature boxes occasionally, the world would be a kinder and more tolerant place.

So, if you are feeling brave, why not check out this author? Her posts on social media are funny, risqué, relatable and full of heart, as are her books.

I’m baffled, speechless, and sad! Let me explain. Baffled, because the story is brilliant. Speechless, because the characters blew me away. Sad, because even though the book is a standalone, I should have known better and started from the beginning! Ties that Binds is a mafia romance that gets darker with every page you turn, keeping you captivated and on your toes. It’s written in 4 POVs. Each has their own strong voice, making it impossible to get lost between switches.

Richard Mason is now my favorite book boyfriend, badass, alpha CEO billionaire. He’s a cold-hearted, ruthless to the core, and sarcastic man, but underneath all that rough façade, there’s a volcano of emotions ready to explode. Lots of regrets and dreams dwell in him, and now that his life as a mobster gave him a break, his demons resurfaced mercilessly, taking him into a road of self destruction, self doubt, and fears, even though he’s surrounded by people who loves him.

Tino, his husband, is the sweetest man ever, but a force to reckon with. He is there for Richard, body, heart, and soul. He knows his needs, which buttons to push, and hold him tight when he crumbles. There is also Pagan, Richard’s ex, a woman with a lot of strength, an excellent mother with a caring nature. Marcus, her husband, loves her dearly, but holds a crush for Tino. He’s assertive, he doesn’t back down, and fights for what he wants and his family. And there’s also Gino, Pagan and Richard’s son. A cute 7-year-old with a heart of gold, and sometimes the adult in the middle of the chaos.

It’s a beautiful read with strong and well-built characters. A solid plot with lots of twists you don’t see coming, and if you don’t start with book one, it will really blow your mind. Their polyamorous relationship is passionate, with plenty of smut and BDSM, but it’s also a bucket full of gore, self-harm, breakdowns, and drug addiction. A wild ride into the bowels of human nature and mental health. In the end, it shows us how we can come back from hell when you have the right supportive people on our side, people who love us regardless of our faults, granting us the redemption we need.

Dive into this tale of darkness, angst, and self destruction where the only road to salvation is to trust your loved ones you and forgive yourself. Ties that Bind is the last book of More than Blood series. The story is a standalone, but do yourself a favor and go for the entire saga. You won’t regret it.

Five smoldering stars
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
for Ties that Bind by Jayne Lockwood

Do you want to know why I kept putting off writing this review? Because it means, it’s really over. This wonderful, heartbreaking, gut-wrenching series about Richard, Tino, Pagan, Marcus and Gino is over. Even Frank is granted one last appearance. And now, the story is all told, and I’m not ready to let go. I don’t want it to end after being part of all these characters’ ups and downs from the beginning.
I remember clearly that I was hooked from book one, devouring the Closer than Blood trilogy in one go, then waiting anxiously for the next book. If you like, you can read my individual reviews for these books.

❤️Just let me recap the trilogy: A Mafia killer, a wealthy half brother CEO, a hot female, deception and intrigue. An ugly breakup, a child born from love, and a marriage gone horribly wrong. Vengeance, a surprise daughter, and a fatal showdown with the Mafia.
And know what? All this, because of FAMILY. As fucked up as these characters might seem, in the end, it’s always about protecting the family.
❤️And the family is growing. In Going Down and No Limits, written by Jayne Lockwood’s alter ego Lady Jaguar, Richard meets Tino and his whole life is turned upside down. He’s madly in love. Shouldn’t he be able to let go of the family that didn’t want him in their lives anymore? No, because despite all his struggles, animalistic desires, self-harm and addictions, Richard can’t let go of those he loves.

💖💖💖💖💖 This is where TIES THAT BIND begins, and oh, what a roller coaster ride. While Richard’ inability to have it all climaxes in self-destruction, the parts of his family he struggled so hard to unite develop a momentum of their own. But will he be able to cope with the changes, will the broken pieces of his life become whole, or shatter beyond repair? Are the Ties That Bind strong enough to weather the hurricane coming their way?
💖 I absolutely loved it how Jayne Lockwood picks up all the loose threads and binds them together in the most gut-churning way. All questions answered. All avenues explored, all combinations tried out, until the puzzle is completed in the most wonderful way.
I loved it all 🥰 although I still haven’t forgiven her the gasp at the very end … and still, I want more!

ARC Review:

This is book four and the finale in the Closer Than Blood series. The series is rated 18+ and is a dark romance that has taboo elements, gore, bucket loads of sex, and one hell of a leading alpha-male CEO named Richard Mason. If you like to be shocked, turned on, don’t mind some intense bloodshed, and can handle all that comes with polyamorous relationships, you need to grab this series.

My Review:
I was already in deep with Richard Mason from the beginning of this series. He is such a strong character, sexy, well-spoken, and rich, and although he is dyslexic, it doesn’t stop him from running an empire or putting a few lowlifes in their places. Richard is a man of little words but everything he says holds weight and that’s what I love about him.
This final book follows the ups and downs of Richard’s relationships from the past as well as his marriage to his husband, Tino. The way these characters are written is perfect. There is no confusion about who is talking and the storyline keeps you on your toes. There are levels of humor crossed with honest moments of hurt, self-hate, and depression.
This story identifies the hardships of being openly pansexual in a world where not everyone condones it. Richard being naturally self-destructive has a hard time balancing work, his relationships, and his stress, in turn resorting to heavy drug use among other coping methods. What starts off as a way to deal with his internal demons ends up in an explosive and devastating turn of events.
I don’t want to give anything away but I can say this series has it all. I’m sad to see it end… AND THAT LAST LINE-OMG. I didn’t see it coming but wow, I must be sick in the head because it totally made me smile. I give this book and series a full five stars and will read everything this incredible author writes.

Things to note:
This series contains scenes of MMM/MMF/MM & MF intimacy. There are elements of BDSM, dub-con, and forced proximity. (Not that I’m complaining. I love it all)

Ties That Bind is the last book in an absolutely fabulous dark romance series. Everyone's (and my) favourite alpha CEO billionaire, Richard Mason, is back for another round of expertly getting in his own way when, really, he has all the opportunities to achieve his ultimate dreams.

Despite being surrounded by people who love him, Richard succumbs to old demons, unable to shift the weight of addiction, stress, feelings of inadequacy, and - not in the least - his dark past as a mobster.

This is a tale of love, family, and everlasting ties as much as it is addiction, mental health, and redemption. The action is fast-paced and heart-thumping, the characters are layered, real and relatable, and the smut is smoking hot and absolutely delicious.

I devoured this book, just as I did the entire Closer Than Blood/Switchblade Romance series. Ties That Bind is impossible to put down. It'll make you laugh and cry, the smut will have you in need of a cold shower, and the action and downward spiral into addiction will have you at the edge of your seat, praying for the wonderful cast of characters to just be okay in the end.

Ties That Bind can be read more or less as a standalone, but I would still recommend reading the other books first (part of the Closer Than Blood/Switchblade Romance series), purely to have the best possible experience. Because, trust me, you will want to have read all of them - they are just that good.

We've followed Richard and Tino as they established their relationship and got married, but things still aren't going right with Richard individually or between them and Pagan and Marcus are still around. Turns out a new combination is necessary for these people to start to get what they need. If you've read the first two books, like me you might have wondered if the author could corral all these strong characters and tie up all the twisted plot lines in a satisfactory way. Have no fear, everything has been carefully thought through and I was completely satisfied with the ending and all the interesting and absorbing trails this book went down to get us there. This is one heck of a series.

5 effing Incredible stars ⭐️

All I can say is PHENOMENAL. I'm actually at a loss for words to sum up this last book, which doesn't happen often. This was everything that I had hoped it would be and more. This (new to me) author closed out this story with perfection. It had: love, action, 5 alarm 🔥 smut, laughs, tears, it's just that simple. That's pretty much all that I can say right now, I'm still reeling from this read. I loved it, I highly recommend reading this whole story start to finish, you will not be disappointed.

Honestly, I can't even trust my feelings with this book, I'm all for polyamorous relationships but I still want to go a couple of rounds with Richard in a boxing ring for his ridiculous behavior. His thinking that their situation was simply him vs. Marcus but then deciding he wanted Pagan and Tino had me ready to pull my hair out. Them being poly is not going to work going down that path at all. Honestly, Tino and Marcus kept me sane everyone else got on my nerves lol. This is a hard read for me truly it is because someone who will not be named refuses to do better. Will update after a reread.

Pagan, Marcus, Richard and Tino story conclusion is paved with danger, more secrets that comes to light and a lot of challenges that will threaten and cause a temporary separation.
Stress and guilt of his past take an awful turn as well as hiding his struggles that leads to a drastic measure to put him on the mend and save his family.
Richard had a lot to do to gain the lost trust and right the wrongs that were made to his family in his absence.
I liked the danger aspect and the family reunions as well as the way they find the common ground to their happiness.

Family, messy and complicated

While this book has definite mob vibes it’s ultimately about family and how messy, complicated and lovely it is. This book takes place over about a year but I feel a bit like I’ve been through a lifetime with these characters. Richard definitely goes through a lot which then affects the others. The four of them gradually get closer, trouble comes along and their messy, complicated family slowly evolves. Loads of fun to read if you like polyamory stories with plenty of scenes of acrobatic combinations of characters.

This is the third and final book in the Switchblade series, and finally ties up the story of these four interwoven characters. Richard is spiraling out of control, Tino doesn’t know how to help his husband, the mutual attraction and lust is coming to a head between the 4 adults, and there are lies and secrets on every side. Twists and turns abound, eventually culminating in a satisfactory ending for all involved. I had gotten so involved with these characters, I hated to see the story end. A great trilogy with memorable characters.

Wow just WOW! The first two books had me hooked and that continued with this one. These books are just so well written. The whole series is steamy, kinky, some dark angst moments and CEO Richard Mason is such a deep complex man but Tino compliments him perfectly. The way the author kept all the characters real with their own aspect to the storyline was brilliant. I highly recommend this series and I look forward to more from this author.

This entire trilogy was amazing but number three packs a PUNCH! All of the drama surrounding Richard, Tino, Marcus and Pagan was intense and nonstop. And I am still not sure how I feel about Richard! Every time I would see some redemption in him, he would do something so vile it would make my head spin. But somehow the four characters manage to work through all the pain and violence to build a strong, but unique, family. This book left me staring at my wall trying to take it all in.

What an intense, dark final to the series. I could hardly put that book out of my hand. It was very emotional and twisted and erotic and delightful at times. I am all there for the polyamory as well. This series puts you through the wringer and please look for the trigger warnings (there are plenty) but if you are in the mood for dark, sexy and a little wrong I can recommend this.

Make sure that you read the triggers on this book. It is a dark romance and it has a few. Otherwise, this is an polyamorous love story. There is a lot of baggage that everyone has, and this unpacks a lot of it. Addiction, mental health, bad pasts and lots of trauma. It gives off intense mob vibes and it is a story.

Enjoy

2.5-3⭐️
This series started off promising, Richard Mason is a dark, damaged, and interesting character. Over, the second and third books however Richard’s ex and her husband become a much larger focus of the plot. The author does have lots of good ideas, but the plot is crowded by too much chaos, drama and even another estranged child. I enjoyed Richard and especially Tino, but not Marcus and Pagan or the transition to a poly relationship. Rounded up for Tino and the author’s overall engaging writing style.

Love can be poisonous, toxic, destructive and yet irresistible and powerful when forged with blood, tears and sacrifices. Book 3 is not only a magnificent finale to the story I have been following with bated breath, but a long awaited and craved new beginning for Marcus, Pagan, Tino and Richard. Seeing Richard out of self destructive mode was a huge relief.

Read it, feel it, touch it - such an intensive reading experience, one of the best for this year.
