I've read my fair share of MMF poly books but this has to be the most out of pocket and hilarious one I've read to date. Loïc is absolutely deranged. The level of obsessiveness he feels over Tarryn and Valor is absolutely unhinged. The whole book I was either laughing my ass off or shaking my head at his brand of crazy. First he was obsessed with taking Tarryn from Valor, who is her husband by the way and impregnating her to also being obsessed with Valor, who he has a crazy mutual hate lust relationship going on with and deciding their both his.

This poor couple didn't know what they were getting themselves into when they met Loïc. The way he's upended their lives with his chaotic energy gave me the best laughs. I'm glad the author dropped the second book the same day as the first. I need to read the conclusion to this unhinged tale about a kinky married couple and their stalkerish deranged third.

This was such a pleasant surprise 👀.

-=- 3.5 stars -=-

I had no idea SB released a book this year, let alone one about one of my favourite side characters with cameos from my favourite characters by her 🥹.

I feel like SB writes some of the best poly books because each character and relationship feels so original and fully fleshed out. You'll rarely find books like these that have such thorough characterization.

I love how each character in this book had a different type of relationship with each other, whilst still feeling individual as characters.

The only thing that I wasn't too big on was the imbalance in Tarryn and Valor's relationship. I felt like it fell flat compared to their respective interactions and relationship with Loïc.

I'm really interested to see what happens in the next book though. This overall was so OTT and charming 😭.

This book was just yummy. I didn't realize I would like it as much as I did. Loïc was a F5 tornado in the middle of a peaceful sea. I absolutely loved the dynamics between him and his obsessions. Just delicious. I need more!

I will admit that I’ve been wrestling with whether I should be appalled at Sorcha Black for writing this book or at myself for how hot I thought it was. Because…this book. Wow. The absolute MFs that take place in this story are so damn original that I’m floored.

“How…how could he make me simultaneously scared, angry, and wildly horny?”

Loic’s stalker skills are A+. The way he just shows up is delightfully wrong. Dangerously so. With her book, “Cruel Idols,” it was more in the genre of enemies-to-lovers. But this? More of a pathological Stockholm Syndrome, which works incredibly well. And the games Loic plays ARE dangerous, pathological, sadistic, and brilliant.

As the intensity increased, so did Tarryn and Valor’s interest in him, even as he attempts to poke holes in their relationship. This book was so compelling, I was resistant to put it down to sleep.

It goes without saying that this story is mired in the potential for triggers. It’s not for everyone, so don’t read it if you have them. I loved the story in its entirety. I’m in awe of everything that took place and how Ms. Black made it all fit together and I was damn happy to get an ARC.

I really liked all of them, and I actually liked Valor and Tayrren as a married couple, too—I even rooted for them. But I have to say that in the book their relationship was portrayed as really flat.😩
While Loïc constantly pampered Tayrren and genuinely gave her attention, it came across as if Valor simply took her for granted. That really frustrated me, because I wanted the married couple to appear strong—not like they needed a third person in their relationship, but simply wanted one. Instead, the two of them barely had any connection left beyond nostalgia. I couldnt enjoy it properly because it was emotional cheating with both parties of the married couple, denying it.😩FRUSTRATING.

I also have to say that every single scene Loïc had with Tayrren was full of real conversations and actual sweet dates, but with Valor it felt like Loïc mostly just had sex. That created a dynamic that felt completely unbalanced.

Random but Loïc is absolutely crazy and i was scared of him tbh😭😭but i also love him, is this normal😭
I just hope the second book focuses more on the 3 of them instead seperate couples.

This book is so intense. I had a hard time relating to the characters, except Tarryn, the lead female. I'm sympathetic to Loic's toxic behavior because of his upbringing and how it's slowly introduced to his story and also knowing him from Tragic King. The story is very dark, romantic in a dark way, and tragic. It's not for the light of heart but as usual, Black's storytelling and interesting characters make it unable to put down and not be invested.

SORCHA YOU BEAUTIFUL CREATURE

I’m obsessed with Loïc, he cares in such a special way that is seemingly laced with instability but also inspires so much pleasure. He’s a delight. This story is a great blend of taboo dark romance and has so many things I love to see but rarely get to.

Read the trigger warnings, also just because it’s not for you don’t make it inherently bad. I adored it.

Tarryn and Valor were just looking for one night with the stranger but Loic, has other plans. He may be dangerous but his charming and sinful ways make him so much more. This is a fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and scorching hot chemistry with plenty of twists and turns to keep you up all night. I loved it.

- FMC: Tarryn
- MMC's: Valor, Loïc
- POVs Included: Multiple POVs (Loïc, Tarryn, Valor)

-----------------------------------

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

Tarryn and her husband Valor have been together since they were kids. And they've been married since they were sixteen. They are still in love, but their careers have physically distanced them because Tarryn's job is located in Prague, while Valor's is in California.

Still, they make it work. And they have quite the adventurous sex life where they are open to exploring each other's kinks. Now Valor has a new kink he'd like to try -- he wants to watch Tarryn with another man.

But the man they choose for their one night stand turns out to be related to some friends of theirs. And he's a little unhinged. So while they are simply trying to have an adventurous sex life, he has other plans to shake up their lives in unconventional -- and possibly dangerous -- ways.

REVIEW:

This was a very intense read. I'm definitely a fan of Sorcha Black and her dark mmf romances. I've read several of them and always enjoy them. So I should've known what to expect. But I still think this was one of her more suspenseful reads. Or maybe it's just because it's been awhile since I've read her books.

Loïc is...a lot. He's a very unhinged and unpredictable person. He had a very abusive and isolated past and so he doesn't necessarily understand social etiquette. But he's a very attractive person, so he gets away with a lot of shit.

He becomes very obsessed with Tarryn and develops a hate-sex relationship with Valor, who he doesn't think deserves Tarryn. Throughout the book he plans to steal Tarryn from Valor, and on several occasions he infers he wants to kill Valor. It's hard to tell if he's serious or not.

So for most of the book I had a hard time deciding if I liked Loïc or not. He can be charming and sexy, but he's definitely a sociopath and you just never know what he's going to do.

He stalks both of them relentlessly (keep in mind they're both separated across the world most of the time). And he breaks into their homes, knows everything about them. He's just kind of creepy. But he throws you off because sometimes he's also really sweet and sexy. Ugh.

By the end of the book I actually did like him for the most part, especially after the final scene with Valor. Because at this point he admits he doesn't want to kill Valor, but keep him. And his jealousy over Valor's co-worker was kind of cute. He also has some rather sweet moments with Tarryn at the end there. He's still crazy obsessed, but maybe he doesn't want to kill Valor anymore? Progress! lol So he pretty much won me over by the end and I'm curious how the final book will go. He's still a little scary though! lol

As far as Tarryn and Valor go I love both of them. They aren't perfect, but they are very loyal and loving to each other. I agree with Loïc that they shouldn't be separated because of their careers, or at the very least Valor should visit Tarryn more. But it's clear they are still very much in love with each other. I love their openness and honesty with each other.

I also love how Valor is so dominant with Tarryn, but submits to Loïc. I love a dominant man who can still switch -- even if it's a little reluctantly, he still loves it in the end.

I do think both of them are idiots for continuing to allow Loïc into their lives when he is clearly a wrecking ball. He sends off so many red flags -- sometimes even blatant ones. So they are being stupid by not heeding the warnings. But I still like both of them.

I am a little confused who Jack is (who goes by they/them). Loïc goes to their apartment on multiple occasions and they seem to be a therapist of sorts. But I don't get how they met each other. They seem like friends, but Loïc mentions Jack being young. Are they brothers? I don't know.

I also wish I would've known about Loïc's brother, Severin's story (Tragic King). I didn't know this book would have some of the same characters in it or I probably would've read that duet first. I also wonder if more of Severin and Loïc's story was told in that one because I'm a little lost. We know a bit about what happened. But there's still so much more to learn about what happened to Loïc. I will definitely be reading it though because I want to read more about Minnow, Rodrigo and Severin.

Overall it was an intense read! Very good, but also a little bit stressful not knowing what Loïc was going to do next! haha I will definitely be reading the final one to see what happens with the three of them!

GADVERPIELEKUS..... wát een héérlijk boek!!! 💖

Puur per toeval... I came across The Violence of My Affection! Maybe the cover was what initially piqued my interest? 😉 I love the cover model, only... I've already seen these images being used for several other book covers 🙄 which makes this cover a lot less 'special'. {Maar dat terzijde!}
Anyway... when I saw who wrote the book, I remembered Feral King and Tragic King (read in 2020 and LOVED it)... I one-click downloaded The Violence of My Affection; hoping it would be a little like Feral/Tragic King. Well, I got what I hoped for... and more. 😍 Severin, Minnow and Rodrigo even made an appearance. Not that I remembered Loïc from those books, btw! 😆

What can I say? I freakin' LOVED this book!!! ❤️

Kinky couple, Valor & Tarryn; the husband wanted to watch his wife have sex with another man... but oh boy, they did *not* know what they were getting into when they hooked-up for a one night stand with Loïc Leduc. 😆
Loïc is kinda deranged, stalkerish and unhinged; the things he did made me cringe 😳... or laugh. 😁 He was obsessed about impregnating Tarryn and taking her from Valor. But at the same time, Loïc and Valor had a hate/lust thing going on between them.

I seem to say that a lot recently 🤪 (just finished a 4 book series where I said the same!).... but I'm not a fan of BDSM anymore. However, this was SO different from regular BDSM stories! Dominant Loïc was.... sublime! 🤩 And the chemistry between Loïc & Tarryn, Loïc & Valor and the three of them together was.....

Definitely a 5 star read for me!
Gonna continue with This Reckless Devotion right away. So glad both books were released at the same time!

I really have no idea how I find much of what I read, but I need to figure out what recommended this title to me because JFC do I want more reads like this. How is not a more popular book? It has all the dark romance goodies done well.

Loïc, a gorgeous, unhinged man who takes a one night threesome and turns it into a chaotically hot, nightmarish mess. Tarryn and Valor, the happily married couple of 16 years who make the decision/mistake of inviting Loïc into their hotel bed. Valor is a straight, dominant man who has loved his wife for years, but has a desire to see her with another man. Tarryn is a former good girl who has only been with Valor and is his submissive who eventually agrees to fulfill his fantasy. Once invited in, Loïc becomes possessive of Tarryn and unexpectedly dominant of Valor. It's dubious consent at best, that first time with Valor and it has no right to be as hot as it is.

Should've been a one and done, experience and experiment ticked off a sexual bucket list. But chance brings them back together and none can resist the temptation. The risk and danger. The erotic, electric spark Loïc brings to their lives. He stalks them both. Becoming a possessive, attentive and loving temptation to Tarryn and a passionately violent enemy to lover of Valor.

It pushes boundaries of the characters and readers like me, but I'm helpless as everyone else swept into Loïc's life. His backstory is dark and tragic and I have so many questions and concerns, but damned if I'm not rooting for the three of them to be together happily ever after. Even when I'm left right with Valor wondering if Loïc really did interfere with Tarryn getting her birth control to get her pregnant after she expressly said she wasn't ready yet when her acting career was just taking off, I could not stop reading and loving every bit of this. That's an unforgivable crime, in my opinion, if he did it, but he couldn't have could he? When no one in a story, including the character creating chaos, can predict what will happen next, it is an addicting and exciting read.

It's clear side characters in this have a story that likely came before this and should have been read in order, but I truly do not care this time. I'll seek the rest out some other time because I definitely want more Loïc, but finishing this duology is my first priority.

Did I say how scorching hot this was? Like seriously fan yourself and maybe take a cold shower after some of the scenes. I actually highlighted a lot of good writing with story and character development, but none of that really matters when my dominating thought after reading this is just JFC that was so hot.

“How could he make me simultaneously scared, angry, and wildly horny?”

Well DAMN!! That was one hell of an unhinged stalker story that was so freaking spicy that I swear it had my body lit on fire from head to toe! My best friend B.O.B. really got a workout every time Loic spontaneously showed up in each chapter. I mean this story was just so freaking insanely HOT and I could not get enough of it!!!

Tarryn and Valor are just looking to spice up their marriage with a new kink but what they don’t realize is that the man they chose will become dangerously obsessed with both of them. And one night is never going to be enough for him.

Loic will have you eating out of the palm of his hands. He’s got one hell of a filthy mouth on him, and he also knows just how to play a man and woman’s body in order to wring out the most delicious sounds and emotions from them. He will keep you squirming!

The chemistry between Loic, Tarryn and Valor was explosive and utterly undeniable. There was just something about the three of them that keeps pulling them together.

Nobody has the kind of stalker skills like Loic does. This man has definitely got some kind of supernatural abilities in his genes, because he can pop up anywhere, get into anything, and talk his way in and out of any situation. He’s definitely unhinged in the most sinfully delicious of ways. And he definitely had my mind blown with how dangerous, twisted, sadistic and brilliant the mind games he plays are.

I absolutely loved this mindbender of a story. It had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with anxiety and continually saying WTF throughout! I could not put this one down and by the end, I became obsessed and addicted to these characters.

I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

this book is freaked out right from the start lol. its so hot. it’s a good halloween season read. definitely a lesson in “be careful what you wish for”.

loic is a scary manipulative stalker. he’s a monster. i love him so much. tarryn is a nice enough character. she has doormat moments but they are infrequent. valor is pathetic in the way that guys who think they’re hot shit until they get checked by a better man can be. hes not a convincing dom. he doesn’t deserve tarryn but tarryn also is too soft on him. loic comes around and completely shakes that all up.

this is a dark read. there’s nothing sweet or nice about this mmf relationship. it very much veers into cuck territory at times (which i loved tbh). he completely turns valor out. on top of that there’s very dubious consent happening and also serious csa that one of the main characters experienced in their past. knifeplay too.

there’s something i don’t like about the way kink language and conversations go in this one. it’s good that they all talk about that kind of stuff openly but it feels very unsexy to me. like a tumblr psa post almost, kind of “sex therapist”.

i think it’s funny that all of the insignificant side characters have normal boring names like alex, kim, nadine, and paul but the main important characters are named valor, minnow, severin, prospero, etc. i feel like these are big reaches for unique names (especially valor).

i enjoyed this, it was hot, but not enough to read the second book. i liked it better before loic started falling in love with them. after the 70% mark i started to get bored. valor/loic was much more interesting of a couple than tarryn/loic.

It was a nice and successful MMF book. I really liked it. I've always loved the concept of married couples choosing someone to be their partner and having a relationship with this person both separately and together. This book doesn't fully reflect that, but it's better than other bad books.
SPOILERS!!!!

The married couple is always separated, meaning they don't live in the same house. FMC lives in Prague for work, and MMC1 (husband) lives in America. And we read about MMC2 constantly traveling and visiting the countries where they both are. I mean, if you love each other, I don't think you'd put so much distance between you. Because MMC2 wants FMC for himself and wants her to have children with her. He also tries to kill MMC1 towards the end of the book, as you know. I didn't care for this distance part. I think they could all have had jobs in different states in the same country. The other part I didn't like was when FMC and MMC2 get close, when I was about to read a sex scene, the chapter suddenly ends: the sex is just very light, very, very light. I know the author writes very hot sex, but it bothered me not to see that. I wish we had seen these scenes. The only sex scene I've read between mmc1 and mm2 towards the end and it bothered me because the characters are so sexy and a hot sex scene would be great. I would be happier to read mmc2 go and have sex with both of them.

Dark taboo read that I came into blind, but didn't mind because not much shocks me. First few chapters, had me considering DNF'ing. It was confusing because I didn't know about a previous book series they were in, so it felt like being in the deep end, but I'm glad I persevered.

This was written well enough for me to disengage with Loic's red flags, and put myself in the mind of the characters enjoying those red flags, rather then analysing it. I think because Loic is so transparent, self deprecating, neurodivergent, loves his family, it makes for an interesting character he's both good and bad, where as normally the red flags POV is one dimensional.

Was pleasantly surprised by theDespite they're being 3 POV's it's not equal, Tarryn has the least amount of chapters, so the book is mainly from a male POV, which I appreciated because most smut books I've read are mainly from the female POV.

This book is more about exploring sexuality and boundaries, then it is about plot points, so If you want something more plot driven, you won't appreciate this read, and also if lots of spice is too much for you, avoid because the steam rating is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 explicit and plentiful.

Okay so this was the first throuple -esque book I've ever read. I did really like it. I feel like at some point it got a bit repetitive for me and I don't really think that it needs a second book. I think it could have just been one large book lmao. I don't know how much I like Loic's backstory. I might've liked everything better as a whole if he didn't have the creepy backstory he did but I guess that is what makes him so strange. It's funny because when he warms up TArryn it's like you develop a soft spot for him. I can't tell if he really likes her or just obsessed with the idea of getting her prego. Honestly why does he like her so much? Especially when he was reluctant when they first approached him. Like it seems that he likes her personality and who she is a lot butttt how did he get hooked again? They meet like twice before he developed an obsession. I do really love how there is no question or doubt to either Valor or Tarryn about the strength of their relationship. I think it's very mature, not just some random guy completely blows up their relationship. MMM curious to see how this ends

A MFM why choose dark romance that surprisingly by the second book became a comedy.

I was so confused for about 25% of the book because Loic one of the MMC’s is introduced in the first chapter as a vampire or a pirate and so I didn’t know whether this was a fantasy. It didn’t help the situation when we were introduced to loic’s family because they called one of their dad’s fang and one of their children frog. There was a specific scene where the child climbed on top of the MMC’s shoulder, but the way that it was written I thought it was a Shapeshifter. That said, I loved that. The visual as it gave me for Who exactly Loic was portrayed to be was perfect. And although in the end, it wasn’t a fantasy having those similes present throughout was a clever writing technique and honestly, I have never read anything like this.

Tropes included
- stalker
- breeding
- billionaire (although not disclosed heavily implied)
- pregnancy
- unhinged MMC
- bi-awakening
- BDSM themes

In love with them all

Perfectly unhinged, sweet Loïc. My new favorite. That boy* definitely has a few screws loose but it's lovable in a "maybe he's dangerous" kinda way. (*I say boy, as if he's not somewhere around the age of 30, like the other 2 main characters. Another plus to this story to me, these are full fledged adults!)

All characters actually bloom and grow well throughout the course of this story. I appreciate that the character names are unique - feel like so many stories have variations of the same names these days, and I think that's part of the reason I can't get them out of my head.

Well written for the most part only a with few errors, and very enjoyable. Pay attention to the TWs, there's definitely some dubcon encounters and noncon elements, if you're not OK reading that. Very sexy and steamy throughout, but the spice does not exist at the cost of the story which I appreciate. Plot is good!

I just found out there's a duology following Severin apparently so I'm off to devour that next!!

Sorcha... what a brilliant weaver of tales. Brilliant.
The old adage comes to mind ~becareful what you wish for~ the characters definitely made the story their personalities in point.
Tarryn I was a lil annoyed with, Valor a whole lot annoyed with but but Loic whew! Sorcha gurl!
Hubs wanted to watch, some strange with his wife (they been together since they were young)
Ah but see our particular strange has them second guessing their own wants and needs.
Each characters personality plays in the story so well. A bit odd, a lot of oh my D, toss that with some dark emotions and you get a dark, hot page turner. Very much want the 2nd book now... did I mention now? Did I mention Loic? Whew the man will make you sweat.
Tarryn grew on me towards the end, because well. You're going to have to read. Slap a five star on it and bam! Enjoy

I enjoyed this duet. I didn't know if I'd like it at first because I didn't know how the dynamics of the plot with the marriage would go and what it would entail but I can say I don't regret it one bit! It flowed really well and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. I would say that the author needs to go into more detail in telling the readers that there's heavy triggers. There's not even a content warning except one little statement where near the trademark page says this book contains dark themes and rough scenes. So for that I'd have to deduct .5 . I'd rate the book a 3.5 rounded to a 4. I'll list the main triggers i can think of below.

****SPOILER BELOW ****

• child abuse and child sa(not on page but mentioned)
• incest (mentioned)
• Knife play in one scene
• dnc/cnc
• attempted trafficking with a spiked drink (book 2)

• MMF (poly - why choose)
• happily married couple MF
• deranged, unhinged, unpredictable, but kinda sweet mmc2
• quite a bit of suspense
• possessive and protective mmcs
• sweet and loving fmc
• D/s dynamics
• bi awakening
• multi pov
• 1st person pov

This was so fun to read. I absolutely love Loïc and I really hope we get to see more of his POVs in the second book.

Valor and Tarryn are a happily married couple that engage in the BDSM kink world. Valor (mmc) has a hotwife kink he wants to try. They meet Loïc at a kink club, and that’s where this crazy journey starts. For the whole book Loïc is trying to steal Tarryn from Valor, while hate fuck!ng him lol. Absolutely crazy story, but so addicting lol

What happens when YOUR plans aren't HIS plans?
What happens when you come up against someone you not only didn't plan on, but couldn't have planned for in your wildest dreams?
Well, Tarryn & Valor are finding out in this wonderful book by Ms. Black.
This one has her signature excellent writing that swirls you into the lives of her characters without effort. She manages to so very smoothly enfold you into the plot so deeply you care about, and are invested in, them. You HAVE to know what will happen & you'll find you're kept on the most delightful tenterhooks.
It's emotional, sizzling, fascinating, intriguing & a d@mn excellent read!

Sorcha Black's books are never middle of the road for me. With some like Feral King, Cruel Idols and Prey Island, the domineering alphaholes and cruel switches create kink heaven for both the FMC and me. While others are complete disappointments. Unfortunately this book joins the second list for me.

I got worried pretty quickly that Loic wasn't going to be dominant over Tarryn and unfortunately my fears were confirmed. I don't mind some MM involved in menage or RH, but making that the main Dom/sub relationship instead of the MMC(s) with the FMC is a cruel joke. And the Dom/sub relationship between Valor and Tarryn hardly appears at all. I'm not up for a book where the FMC isn't the main character. That also made it quiteboring for me. Not my cup of tea. Hopefully the next book Black writes will be better.

Loïc and The Davenports

This is why you should never pick up strangers in a bar. You have no idea of who and what you're bringing into your life. Loïc is disturbed. Although he do make valid points. I remember him from Tragic King and I'm glad he got his own story. I see he still hasn't learned anything about boundaries. He was just popping up on Tarryn and Valor when he felt like it. I kinda felt bad for Valor sometimes. Loïc really just wants to be loved. His mama did a number on him but I believe he's found his forever people, he just needs to tone it down a little.💚💚

Mother has done it again!! I love how Loic puts Valor in his place. It's so refreshing. Sorcha even told me she wasn't sure how readers would react to Loic as he is such an "odd duck" but he is so needed to make the dynamic work. Sorcha is fantastic at MMF and honestly is the only one that can scratch that itch in my brain just right. Cruel Idols and Prey Island are still my faves but this book is up there for sure. Def the best thing I've read this year in the romance genre. Love love love this story so much. I'll read anything you put out there. Literally.

Is it wrong to like Loïc as much as I did?
He was the best kind of nut job. I loved his breeding kink and all the lines he crossed.
The steam was hot as well.

Side note:
This may be ignorant, but this is my review, so whatever. It confused the shit out of me when Loïc used the pronouns they and them when talking about Jack in chapter 5. It took me way too long to figure out that no one was in the bed with Jack.

Very hot and kinky. I actually started skimming the sex scenes by the end because it was almost too much. I LOVED Loic's character, and Valor and Tarryn's reactions to him. His "weirdness" was well written. My only real complaint is the ending of this book, which isn't much of an ending at all, however it's clearly stated the story is a duology. I kind of wish it had been written as one longer book with half the sex scenes cut out.
