This was a perfectly executed romantic plot, but I feel like the book should have had a last editing round since sometimes the wording felt a bit weird to me.

Dit was het ideale boek om het jaar mee te openen. Ik heb het uitgelezen op de trein toen we een uur vertraging hadden omdat er twee paarden op de sporen stonden. Al bij al was dit lezen dus geen tijdverspilling.

this was okay. very simple writing, almost like if you took someone’s diary and added dialogue. there was little to no descriptions of the setting which i found a little annoying (literally says Utrecht is the smaller and quieter version of Amsterdam; that’s the best way I can describe it. It’s lined with some of the most beautiful canals I’ve ever seen and charming streets. like…. ok give us nothing, guess i’ll google), along with the overuse of the phrase “for some reason”. the story was cute enough, but after the halfway point i was just bored. had some disappointing plot holes near the end but i wasn’t expecting much by then.

it was a cute and fast read! gemma, our fmc, was a bit annoying. the book is written from her perspective and her inner monologue is too much. i understand the author’s need to explain things, but it made no sense for all that to happen in gemma’s inner monologue. she also kept repeating the same things about daan, our mmc, and their arrangement. it got old real quick. the thing that saved this book for me was daan. he is such a man, so attentive and kind and thoughtful. where will i find a man like this in amsterdam???

2.5⭐ (rounded up because I’m nice and it was fast)

Plot? Fine, familiar. Been there, done that.
Execution? Not it.

Nobody talks like this. Even in a mixed international group - it was cringe. Did a human edit this?

Repetitive to the point of pain ☠️
And yet... “Just acting out a fantasy” got me. Book husband coded. I fell. I’m weak.

Overrating it, but it was a quick palate cleanser.

It's a horrible romance book. Extremely predictable and wrong. The characters are unlikeable and annoying. The only salvageable thing is the location, but it is done so poorly. It gives the vaguest descriptions of Amsterdam, making the entire book not believable. Do not recommend it.

This book is a lot of cliches and feels like it is in need of another pass. However, it did exactly what I needed it to. Which was pallet cleanse after a previously intense book. Plus it only took a day to read. This is basically just candy.

Really enjoyable book. Easy read. And a pretty accurate representation of Amsterdam and the people there. Only thing that wasn't really Dutch were was the whole getting married in late 20's part (that's more an late 30's early 40's thing in the Netherlands). But it was a very fun and easygoing read and helped me with my homesickness to my city.

Yours in Amsterdam by Reyna Starlette is a quick read about Gemma who lost two very important aspects in her life only to find the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam temporarily and find love in the right person but at the wrong time. The story is predictable with a lot of cliches and brief descriptions of Amsterdam here and there. Gemma and Daan's interactions throughout the book was pretty cute, and the growth of their relationship drives the main plot of the story as they question if it can potentially be something real. Outside of this, there was no other major conflict with the other characters. This book is very light and fast pace with little to no drama, so if you're in need of a romantic palette cleanser from an intense read, this would be one the perfect books for that.

It's a Sweet Story

*****Spoilers*****

This was a really cute story even though it started out in not the best way. Gemma is let go from her job and once home, finds her fiance having sex with their mutual friend. Oh, and to make matters worse, she's living with him in his New York apartment. Lucky for Gemma, her friend Sophie from Amsterdam is getting married and not only has a place for Gemma to stay but wants Gemma as her wedding planner. It works out well for both, particularly since Sophie's wedding planner had a family emergency and wasn't going to be able to be there for the remaining month left before the wedding. Gemma will be staying at Sophie's apartment while she's in Amsterdam since her friend moved into a new place with her soon to be husband.

When Gemma arrives in Amsterdam, Sophie shows her to the apartment and leaves for an appointment. It's then that Gemma decides to hop on the bike Sophie let her borrow to explore Amsterdam. The only problem is that Gemma is a slow rider and isn't ready for the bike traffic. When Gemma goes flying off her bike, Daan comes to the rescue and offers to bandage her knee. Once he's done, he tries unsuccessfully to get Gemma's number but she declines because she's coming off of a breakup and the timing is bad. This is the excuse Gemma uses for much of the time she's in Amsterdam. Imagine Gemma's surprise to see the same man rummaging through drawers in her borrowed apartment the next day. Mistaking Daan for a stalker or burglar, she chases him out with a mop beating. It's after that when Gemma discovers that Daan is Sophie's brother and was in the apartment to get some papers for Sophie. Sophie being the disorganized person that she is has forgotten that she asked her brother to get the papers for her. From there, it's Gemma and Daan put together to finish the wedding planning together with Daan mostly acting as a chauffeur and translator. As they work together, they get closer and their feelings grow deeper despite there being an expiration date to what they have going on. Gemma spends the time unsure about Daan because of her past and feeling insecure about his ex-girlfriend who she thinks he still loves.

In the end, the relationship Gemma and Daan build leads to something more permanent once Gemma and Daan express their feelings for one another. The long distance seems to be work and eventually, after a year, Daan gets a place and a job in New York so that they can be closer.

I loved that Daan was so sure and determined to take what he and Gemma had further. By the same token, Gemma's self doubt was an unnecessary road block but it came from hurt feelings about her father leaving their family and was exacerbated by her ex-fiance's betrayal. For a person who self-proclaimed her inclination to meet confrontation head on, her running was outside of what I'd expect. I will say that it was so cute how Daan would look away so often when Gemma looked at him, it pretty much told on him time and again when it came to how much he liked her. His consideration and thoughtfulness were so sweet as well, he made it a point to take care of her throughout.

This is my first book by this author. I really enjoyed and and plan to see if she has other stories.

Misty and Justin are trash; especially Justin because he’s the one that made commitments to Gemma .

The unrealistic part of the story is losing your job but paying to go to Amsterdam in two days. Why would rich Sophie not pay when the reason Gemma is going is to help her? Plus what was the plan after the wedding if the time is supposed to be spent wedding planning in the Netherlands?

Daan is a yes. I’m digging him so far. The second encounter with him and Gemma was hilarious.

Kelly is a no for me. I’m mad Gemma told her the job situation since she kept the Mindy/ Justin sitch a secret. She might be his spy right now.

I love Floris. Julia is a hating jealous wench.

“How could you do this to me?” Justin has some fucking nerves. I want to punch him.

Though I hate that she’s crying over that bozo, I’m glad Gemma is letting her emotions out and can truly have closure.

Sima is another person I love. Love when good friendships are introduced.

Why is Gemma even answering any of Julia’s questions? It’s none of her damn business. She better than me.

“Gemma, will you be my girlfriend for three days?” 😂 How cheesy

This is my first time really being upset with Gemma but it pissed me off that she told Julia about her arrangement with Daan. Even if she’s like “I don’t want to stand in the way of their relationship”, all she had to do is tell Daan what Julia said and let him decide if he wanted to go back down that path. She shouldn’t have told his ex about the friends with benny arrangement. I want to shaker her ass.

“She’s loaded; don’t understate your fee.” 😂 Sophia is an amazing bride and friend

Aww Daan is such a sweetheart. Gemma deserves her HEA. They both do.

Did no one proofread this novel?
Weird sentences, words missing or misspelled, and switching from present tense to past tense and back again in one sentence.. It really threw me off.
I'm Dutch (the main reason I thought it would be fun to read this book), but this reads like the author is Dutch too and decided to write a book in English and not have someone proofread it afterwards.

The story is nice, but at about three quarters in I started to wonder why Gemma is spending no time with best friend Sophie at all. I get that she's totally hot for Daan and spends a lot of her time with him, but you would think that if you travelled to another country to help plan your best friend's wedding, you would actually spend sóme time with that best friend as well, or at least have conversations with her over the phone or text.

Also, Gemma keeps talking about the great relationship she has with her mom, but it seems like she never even contacted her to tell her about what happened, or hasn't spoken to her at all the whole time she has been in Amsterdam.

I'm also wondering what happened at the wedding with Julia and Daan, since they seemed to be leaving the room together. If I were Gemma, I would've asked him about that after reconnecting with him, but maybe that's just me..

All in all I did enjoy the book, just a nice book to kill time with.

One of the things I loved most about this book was the MMC. In a lot of Contemporary Romance the FMC will go on about her love interest because they are so "hot" or whatever, and don't get me wrong, you definitely know that Daan is a good-looking guy and that Gemma is attracted to him. But, the thing that really had me rooting for Daan was how he treated Gemma. And Gemma didn't just describe his beautiful eyes, she admired his laugh and the way he was confident but then sometimes shy when she gave him her full attention. He treated her as important, he was honest with her and didn't play games. It was so refreshing, I loved their story and their romance. They were so great together!
The roadblocks to their relationship were real life problems, they are living in two different countries after all. And I liked how much Daan was not afraid to admit his feelings and really be invested in the relationship. So good! I will read more by this author.
There is also a scene where the author humorously addresses a Romance trope the couple happen to be encountering, and as an avid Romance reader, I thought it was hilarious!

Yours in Amsterdam was MAGICAL!

I happened across this beautiful novel fully in vacation mode, and desiring to take in a sweeping novel about an all encompassing love with a bit of travel included to kick off my summer, free of my scholars. I found EXACTLY what I was looking for in this absolutely breathtaking novel about two people who have endured their share of hurt and disappointment, finding one another.

I rarely write reviews, but this book moved me in such a way, that I just had to write about how it made me feel. See, I am a voracious reader (usually a book a day) and lover of all things romance, but after my last disappointing heartbreak, I found myself refusing to touch a new romance novel. For months, that was where I was, until I happened across this beautiful book. I absolutely loved it, and I was able to heal some of my own pain and inner turmoil as a result of it.

I send a very special thank you to the author of this book Ms. Reyna Starlette for that. Please, never stop writing, and thank you so very much for composing this wonderful and warm novel! I’m grateful to God that He saw fit to bless you with the gift of writing.

#justiceforDaan he deserves better.

You want me to believe the heroine was besties with her bff and she didn't know she had a whole a** sibling AND she was rich? Eventho her parents invited you for dinner after you graduated and "They took us to dinner at some fancy restaurant, and they probably spent what I spent in a whole year in London on just that one dinner." And you didn't know they were rich? *facepalms*
Also, and that's what made me dislike the heroine more, why are you being judgemental towards people who are being kind to you? The way she talks about her bff's mother? I automatically hated her.
And I hoped she got better with the story, but nope. She remained the same and so... this was a no for me.
Her bestie was fun to read, and Daan was a prince. Also, Amsterdam was perfect, but the rest didn't work.

Now I want to go to Amsterdam

Gemma and Daan's story is relatable and wonderful. Their mutual respect for each other shows and they have a healthy friendship that blossoms into more. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The supporting characters were nice additions.

My only annoyance (not really a continuity issue) was the dance at the wedding. It was mentioned once and not again. I wish it had been explained as a lot was at stake for Gemma considering her baggage.

I also enjoyed the brief initial descriptions of Amsterdam; however, I would have liked to be immersed into the scents, sounds, and appearance of the city a bit more.

Overall, it's a fantastic book. I laughed several times and the author has a way of showing us the characters' moods and not just telling us. Big plus for that.

A great light hearted read. The plot is exciting. Gem is a sweetheart and Daan is just the perfect man. Definitely recommend to anyone that just loves reading about a gentle giant that is head over heels for his woman.

I had very small issues with the book which were the fact that the book is only in Gems POV which is alright but double POV just engages me more. I also had an issue with the small use of descriptions. We never read about what Justin looks like, Gemma's mom, old boss and others in the book (ik others would just image them in the way they see fit but i honestly love descriptions). Other than that I fairly enjoyed this book.

Sweet love story

Ok, the one had me a little emotional, maybe because I'm a hopeless romantic. Towards the end I was able to forgive the repetitive sentences and explanations of the simplest things. Sometimes I felt like the author forgot she already explained something previously. Then she would say it again and I would get annoyed. I almost did a search for one of the sentences to see how many times she repeated it. Also annoying was the sudden issues the heroin had towards the end of the book when there was mention or hint of it. It made her argument/premise seem weak.
Putting all that aside I still got emotional and rooted for the couple throughout this book.

If I learned anything, it’s that running away from your problems can in fact solve them and the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else (that wasn’t the moral of the story, but it was one of my takeaways). It was a cute read that wasn’t very heavy and told a story of rediscovering yourself after a breakup of a long term relationship. There was also the aspect of unexpectedly finding love and allowing fear of the past to control the present and possible future. There was a little drama and love and fucking. I enjoyed throughly.

Love at first fall?

Wow, this was such a great read! This was my first time reading this a book from the author but it was a great experience. What starts off with Gemma getting bad news of losing her job and fiancé turns into a journey of discovery and love. OMG I LOVED Daan! He came along at the most inconvenient time or did he? 🤔 I love the author painted a beautiful picture of Amsterdam and made me want to go biking and just slow down for a minute. Great read that I would totally recommend! Loved!🫶🏽😍

I think the idea is really nice, but the writing leans into amateur with all the explanations and retellings and repetitions.
I counted 9 "bikes" in 10 lines, 4 "beers" in two sentences, and it goes on.
Then, how many times do we need to know the FMC is jobless, homeless and fiancéless?
And why, after every other dialog, there's a retelling of what we just read "what it means..." We know, we just read it!
And it's "affect", not "effect". 😅

I really wanted to enjoy this story, but it felt like a draft still, needed more editing.

Great book

Absolutely loved all the characters except for Julia, Justin and the Friends she has through Justin. Not sold on Daan 's mum either. The heroo and heroine were beautiful together. Loved their interactions and their love for each other. Would have loved to know what Daan and Julia were talking about about at the wedding though. Apart from that the book is one of the most excellent book I have read. Well done to the author.

A Lovely Story

I honestly didn’t hate this. I hated some of the back and forth going on in the main character’s head but I love the way this ended. And I loved the relationship between Gemma and Daan. It felt authentic albeit sometimes annoying. Sometimes when you’re starting over in the dating pool, your doubts can block your blessings and that was conveyed very realistically here. Definitely worth the read if you like romance and European travel.

I was really hoping for more in terms of character development and plot but the characters just instantly had feelings for each other and that was it. Gemma was fresh off of a terrible breakup, and losing her job; Daan was still friendly with his ex who seemingly woke up one day and decided she no longer loved this apparently perfect man? Writing style was eh, plot fell flat and I really just wanted to know who the heck are these people.

3🌷⭐️ // 2.5 🌶️ Read this if you want a relatively on-the-surface story of a woman finding the silver lining during a one month getaway in Amsterdam. There she rediscovers herself and her passions in life after coasting for longer than she liked.

This was a sweet, simple romance where the setting serves as one of the main characters in a sense. I get book recommendations on IG and this one popped up for me and worked for the reading challenge so I gave it a shot.

Troupes: cheating fiancé (with a mutual friend🥲), best friend’s brother, only one bed, MMC falls first, (attempted) friends with benefits, mild OWD
