After being forced to take suppressants for a year by his coach, Beau’s body is a mess. He has a debilitatingly painful heat every two weeks, and there’s no medication available to help him.

Being traded from the team that did that to him is a slap to the face. Being traded to their direct competitors, the Miami Manatees, is just the cherry on top of the sh*t sundae that has become his life.

Now Beau doesn’t just have to get through heats only an Alpha would be able to help with, but has to tolerate Emilio, the guy who doesn’t only hate him, but his Omega scent.
Which doesn’t really make sense, what with how protective and possessive the Alpha gets when Beau goes into heat…and how he keeps volunteering to help him through them.

Beau might take him up on that offer, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to fall in love.

This story contains a goofily oblivious main character and his long-suffering romantic interest, many a heat, plenty of nesting, hurt/comfort, and a dog named Bingo.

This book takes place a decade after the beginning of Alpha Omega: New York and can be read as a standalone.

Kicking my feet and twirling my hair!!!!! This was adorable. Beau is the epitome of The Oblivious Character. Think Anyta Sunday for reference. He’s so endearingly clueless but also sharp as a tack in matters of things that aren’t love & mating. I love his humor and wit. He asks Emilio why he keeps carrying him around bridal style, “we’re the same size!!!” And sure SURE maybe literally anyone else would’ve picked up on Emilio’s feelings faster but Beau didn’t until the facts were presented for him and that is WHY I adore him!!! Emilio reeked of jealousy (quite literally because ya know the whole omega / alpha deal!!!) and Beau would be like idk why he does that, he’s soooo silly. :) I loved how we got a little more alpha / omega ~lore~ in regards to mating rituals, scenting, ruts and of course my favorite…nesting. There’s this scene where Beau doesn’t even realize he’s making nests because he‘s so stressed and it’s precious. Equally as cute was how Emilio’s alpha scent changes based on his mood and frame of mind. When he did something that made Beau happy, Emilio’s scent “smelled like sunshine.”🥹 And in turn, when he was feeling hurt or jealous his scent was bitter and acrid.😔💔 He’s such a protector and I’m glad we also got to see Beau treat Emilio with the same tender loving care during Emilio’s rut as we did during Beau’s heats. It’s what sweet pie Emilio deserves!!! For my friends that don’t care for misunderstandings, there’s some of that going on here. Due to both Beau’s cluelessness and Emilio not saying how he really feels. Their biggest argument gets solved very quickly which I was glad about. Not a lot of plot going on. Just hockey, sex and a ton of sweetness.💕 Also food!!! Emilio cutting up fruits and hand feeding Beau during his heats. Oh I melted.😭

God, this will NEVER get old!

“The first time I smelt you, every fucking cell in my body said, ‘That’s mine.’ And you were some mouthy rookie on the Warriors, causing trouble everywhere you went, and I didn’t know what to do with myself,”

re-read January 2025

Poor Emilio really must’ve suffered hard from the whiplash Beau gave him. Loved this re-read.

4.5***** stars

Perfection. 🫠 I usually don’t like this stuff (see quote) but this was just too delicious!!

Some people could be so oblivious.

The irony! THE IRONY coming from this guy. Really, Beau is the most oblivious character I’ve ever encountered. And not only that. He’s genuinely clueless. Like, ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS. And to top it off no one is telling or explaining jack shit to him even though everyone knows and is confused about something.

It honestly was hilarious. Really. Until it wasn’t and things went to shit. And still, Beau had no fucking clue what the fuck was happening, because no one was telling him anything… all these unfinished sentences!!! Like, everyone just assumed he would know. BUT HE FREAKING DIDN’T!!!

I really was just short of pulling my hair out. OMG. *lmaooo

Still, this was gold. Totally recommended.

Loved the intimacy between Beau (omega) and Emilio (alpha).
There was unbelievably sweet obliviousness (Beau), and adorable caretaking (Beau), heats and nesting and knotting and scenting, a bit of hockey and lovable teammates, all wrapped in one charming short novel-sized package.

I'm not really a fan of the alpha /omega dynamics, but the author wrote these dynamics in an enjoyable way, so I won't complain (couldn't complain anyway since I chose an alpha /omega book 😂).

The epilogue consisted basically of sex, and I' m not a fan of sex-epilogues.

Overall 4 stars.

No mpreg (but they talk about the possibility of having pupps in the future).

Ps shoutout to alicia and Marci for writing reviews that made it impossible to not read this.

One of my absolute faves. It's even more delicious on the re-read ✨

Marina Vivancos does it again. "Broken Ice" is sheer joy and delight in book form: I inhaled it in a day, I had the giddiest smile on my face for the whole time, and I lost count of how many times it made me swoon. I swear, this author's writing seems to be made for me specifically: everything I've read of hers has been an automatic favourite, and even now I can't stop re-reading them.

Broken Ice is set 10 years after the events of the previous "Alpha Omega Hockey" books, when Omegas are finally starting to come out and hockey seems to be finally becoming an inclusive space for everybody... Key word: seems, because as Beau, our protagonist, knows, discrimination is still rampant in the league.
I was a bit worried about the time jump, honestly, because I felt like the previous characters had so much left to say; I shouldn't have been though, because not only did it make sense from the series standpoint, but it was absolutely fascinanting to see how much (and how little) things have changed for Omegas.

Despite this somewhat bleak(ish) premise, this book is seriously joyful: Beau was put through the wringer by his previous team and coach, his body forced to endure suppressants that messed up his heats and his health, but he never loses his smile and his playful attitude.
I loved him so much. He's so different from the previous protagonists: every single one of them has been one of a kind, but both Omegas (and one closeted, subby Alpha) were the same in the sense that they had something to hide, a hidden, scarred and terrified part of them that they thought the world shouldn't know about, or wouldn't want to know about. In other words, they were the grumps in the grumpy/sunshine equation. Here we get the sunniest, most playful, most idiotic and most oblivious Omega (Beau is the himbo), and the grumpiest (and most idiotic) Alpha, i.e. the love of my life, Emilio Torres (I might have a tiny, tiny crush on him okay?)

< They stared at each other. This was probably a good time to say something like, ‘What the hell was that last night?’, or ‘Is this really just sex?’, or ‘Blink twice if you want to keep me forever.’ >

I loved both of them to bits. Their relationship starts off with a bit of one-sided enemies-to-lovers dynamic (because Beau is a bit oblivious, and Emilio is a grump) but soon flourishes in the dirtiest, sexiest, most delicious, I'll-help-you-through-your-heats arrangement.
Of course, both of them are pining, insecure idiots, so it takes a while for them to understand that they're the loves of each others lives, but the bits in between were just as glorious as the ending: I loved their dynamic, their relationship, so damned much. Despite the rocky start, it was packed with playfulness and a smidge of (endearing) misunderstandings, so much care and protectiveness, so much joy and affection, and literally, the dirtiest stuff I've read in an omegaverse in a long time (i.e. since the last Vivancos omegaverse): "Broken Ice" is packed with all the delicious A/B/O tropes you could wish for. Heats (lots), and ruts? Scenting (lots and lots) and pack dynamics? Nesting, claiming, mating and everything in between? This book has it. Needless to say, I was obsessed.

< Beau jolted, a gasp ripped out of him. “Oh, my God.” “You’re gonna be fucking covered in me after I’m done with you,” Emilio promised, voice low and sure. >

I loved both of them individually too. Like I said, I have an enormous crush on Emilio: he's grumpy and respectful (sooooooo respectful), kind and lovely, with some hidden insecurities that were simultaneously heart-wrenching and endearing.
And Beau: god, where do I start with him. He's a himbo, he's an idiot and a joker, he's oblivious, he can't shut up to save his life, but he's also damned sweet and affectionate, so desperate for pack and a place to belong it broke my heart, so insecure and afraid, despite all the bravado and smiles. I adored him, and while I did want to jump into the book and shake him a few times, I also wanted to wrap him up in blankets for everything he's had to put up with. This book is joyful and fun, I promise, but it wouldn't be a Marina Vivancos book without a bit of feels and a smidge of trauma.

I also adored the fact that this book has such a found family atmosphere: I loved how the author incorporated omegaverse dynamics into team dynamics, and I loved all the side characters. Now, I'm desperate to know if two other pining idiots will get their HEA soon: I'm desperate to talk about them, but I'll shut up now.

I wholly recommend this book: it can easily standalone (but the other three books are marvellous as well). I already can't wait to re-read this, and I'm so damned excited to see what else Marina has planned for this universe. I hope she never stops writing in it.

How did I not give this 5 stars the first time around?? I ate this up!

Marina Vivancos is really out here writing peak omegaverse fiction. Ugh, I can’t wait for book 5, I’m practically foaming at the mouth for it. And I’m still hoping for Sammy and Beau’s brother’s book because their dynamic sounds so good.
_______________

first review: The obliviousness and miscommunication was a little much in my opinion and I'm someone who loves oblivious mcs so that is really saying something 😂 But Beau's dialogue had me laughing out loud and the romance was obviously super hot so I had fun. It kind of felt like all three of the previous books combined, so if you enjoyed the other books in the series I'd be shocked if you didn't like this one. Can't wait for the next book! Attached at the hip best friends-to-lovers sounds very up my alley. And the fact that the omega is open about his omega-ness sounds extremely cute to me idk why 😂

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Marina can do no wrong!!
Every single book I read of hers makes me laugh, cry and basically feel like I'm on a roller-coaster of emotions yet also somehow soothed by that experience.
Also this book had like ten nesting scenes and guess what cold-hearted bitch kept tearing up during each one? 🥺🥺🥺

This was so funny and I loved how dramatic Beau was and then I realised that it's because I am him 😂😂😂 I too have been known to complain of certain death when that time of month rolls around, so Beau protesting that 'this is the worst thing that has ever happened to anyone' spoke to my soul!!!

I also loved how completely oblivious he was - breaking alpha's hearts left and right because he doesn't even notice they like him... hilarious.

Emilio was the most intense alpha so far but I really liked how he immediately took to the role, although he was also dumb and assumed that Beau would just automatically know how he felt and what he wanted... honestly, men and communication 😉😂

Broken Ice is the 4th in Marina Vivancos’s “Alpha Omega Hocky” series and also my absolute favourite of the series. I love them all but I love each new book more and more.

Beau and Emilio used to be rivals on separate teams, but Beau has now been transferred to the Miami Manatee’s which happens to be Emilio’s team.

For the last year Beau was forced to take suppressants by his old coach, leading him to suffer from extreme painful heats that are short but frequent. Beau usually suffers alone, but when he realises that having an Alpha around, specifically Emilio, helps a ton then things start to get a lot easier (and hotter).

But Beau can’t understand any Emilio is willing to help, when Emilio has always seemed (to our oblivious little Beau) to react badly to his scent, always turning away and seeming to struggle with it. And if you wonder why this is, then you will just have to read and find out 😌

This was my top read of January, and will probably end up being my top read of the year unless Marina comes out with another incredible book and then they can both fight for number one 😂 I’m hoping for Noah and Sammy to get a book next🤞🏻

I have no idea why I decided to pick this up but it kept me invested for a while.

I can see why people found it annoying because the main character is oblivious to Emilio’s feelings but I found it annoying because he was oblivious to practically everything. I didn’t particularly mind the misunderstandings or miscommunication I guess between Emilio and beau; it just added to the cuteness for me 🥀

overall this was pretty forgettable and nothing special imo. Cute read though.

Broken Ice is a great omegaverse sports romance featuring oblivious omega Beau and devoted and loyal alpha Emilio. They are two guys who are on the same hockey team and can barely tolerate one another. I loved how this rivalry-based dynamic quickly escalates and morphs into something completely different once Beau is in one of his unbearable heats, which forces Emilio to protect and defend Beau. Their relationship quickly changes and grows into something else.

I loved how oblivious Beau is to Emilio's obvious devotion and care. He is so unaware of basic loving gestures that Emilio is flabbergasted and assumes they don't have a future together. This leads to many hilariously frustrating moments of miscommunication and misunderstandings.

Overall I thought this was a light and fun omegaverse romance that kept me interested due to the amazing chemistry between the leads. I love a dominant alpha who defends and protects his omega. Such a fun read that I could not get enough of it.

I think this one might be tied for first place with book 2. I looooooved Beau and Emilio though, they’re definitely my favourite characters in the series. I laughed so hard most of the way through at how ridiculous they both are. When Beau is wailing that his nest was inadequate I died 😭

I’m actually kind of bereft that the next book isn’t out yet. I’ve had the best few days reading all these. Marina Vivancos once again knocked it out the park.

“Beau, I wanted to drag you home, put you on my couch with Bingo on top of you, feed you until you couldn’t move, and never let you go. So.”

I had a whole review typed out and for some reason the page reloaded and didn't save... so you're just getting a shorter version instead.

I thought this was such a good installment in this series and that Beau and Emilio were perfect together. I love the obliviousness of Beau, especially as a reader being able to follow while Emilio cares for him and falls in love with him (and Beau having no idea). Beau really deserved something good after all he had been through and I enjoyed his over the top sweet ending.

This is quick and fun and I definitely recommend if you need something enjoyable and fast to add to your TBR!

Ice hockey and omegaverse? Sign me right up! It's the first book I read both by this author and also with those two tropes together and I've enjoyed it very much!
Beau is an omega, ice hockey player, who has had to endure going through a treatment requested by his former team. He is traded to the rival team where there is Emilio, an alpha who showed in the past that he despised Beau's scent. But they are forced to play together and deal with Beau's heats which are all over the place. Guess what, things take a turn none of them expected and that I loved so much.
Beau and Emilio were just wonderful. Their beginning being in the same team was rough, but Beau was accepted for the rest of the players and Emilio and him just agreed to get along. It was so obvious how Emilio felt towards Beau, and I loved his possessiveness and him being so caring all the time.
Beau being Beau was oblivious to everything going on around him. I could understand him because he had more than enough on his plate with his heats hitting so hard and painful, but the chemistry of them together was off the charts. They were definitely soulmates, destined to be each other's half.
This was a great book. I love the interesting twist that the author has created in this series setting an omegaverse world where omegas do the same things as the alphas, like playing ice hockey. It was sweet, romantic and I absolutely loved Beau, he was my favourite because he was the nonsense type and always spoke up his mind.
This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a standalone. Although I'm now curious to read what's come before and I can't wait to read what's next in the series.

So imagine you find your mate, you help him through his heat, hang out, play hockey together.....YOURE FALLING IN LOVE WITH HIM. (Without talking about it 🙄) Then one day your mate is wearing a mating scarf from a different alpha 💔😭 POOR EMILIO!!!!!
Don't worry, tho it's not as bad as it sounds. Haha, our sweet summer child is oblivious to literally EVERYTHING.

Here's an example...
Our couple was visiting another omega, talking about fancy nesting blankets

Emilio- “Can you text me the website?” Now Beau really was getting annoyed. “What the hell for? You gonna buy him some for Christmas?” Emilio turned to him slowly and squinted his eyes. “The hell are you talking about?” Sammy giggled. “He’s gonna buy you some, dummy.” Beau’s gaze jumped between Emilio and Sammy. Emilio’s eyebrows were raised as if to say, Are you a fucking idiot? “Oh,” Beau said, face heating. “Right. I knew that.”

I laughed so hard.

“If you have gotten your heart broken by Beau Lavoie’s obliviousness, you might be entitled to compensation.”

Other than REALLY wishing we had Emilios POV. My heart is warm 💚
Ps- this is only Beaus POV and is wrote in 3rd person.

3.5 ⭐️/🌶️🌶️🌶️

- omegaverse
- hockey
- rivals to lovers, ish
- heats/🪢ing

Beau has spent the last year taking suppressants at the behest of his coach, and now that he’s been weaned off, he has debilitatingly painful heats every two weeks. Worst of all, there is no medication that can help him.

As if his body being a complete wreck wasn’t enough, he’s been traded without a word and now teammates with his rival—one who not only hates him but finds his omega scent disgusting.

Or so Beau thinks, but things are not as they seem! Because this sweet oblivious little muffin isn’t aware of how possessive Emilio is of him, especially once he goes into heat. Beau thinks Emilio’s just offering to help with his heats because he’s being nice, not realizing that he’s been obsessed with him and the way he smells from the moment they met.

Normally I would find how silly and oblivious Beau is to be annoying, but honestly he was just so damn cute 🤣

Beau scoffed, imitating him in a high-pitched voice. “I think my scent lessens the symptoms of your condition. You’re dumb and I hate you.”

“Okay.”

I could not have loved this more! Beau is so snarky and oblivious and Emilio was the perfect Alpha 😍 What starts as a reluctant agreement to help Beau get through his sudden and intense heats morphs into the best romance full of misunderstandings and banter. I’m going to have to read the whole series I simply inhaled this ❤️

Really love pretty much anything this author puts out. But I mean to come up with hockeyxomegaverse is pure GENIUS.

I loved everything about this (all of them books but especially #1 and #4) book. I’m usually not a big fan of miscommunication in books (like just fucking say it) but did not mind in this book. Beau tried so hard to deny his feelings for Emilio but LOVE ALWAYS PREVAILS.

And yes okay, I am a sucker for needy omegas in heat who need a strong alpha to take care of them during their heat but my favorite is when there’s an actual plot. This book has all that and more!

I love omegaverse but hate mpreg. There’s no mpreg in this but there’s the potential for it and the omega does have a uterus he talks about. I really don’t like that part of omegaverse. HOWEVER, this book was fantastic and I could overlook that because it was so good and hot and sweet and I couldn’t put it down. Read it all in one sitting 😅

I absolutely love the deeply emotional writing in every book I read from this author. This story is no exception even though it was lighter in parts than I’ve come to expect, adding this thread of humour which made me snort laugh. This is a sweet, spicy story of rivals turned teammates turned lovers with all the feels.

Though both characters are complex and layered, we mostly get Beau’s perspective in the journey but the author makes Emilio’s pov and character come out quite clearly, underlining Beau’s sometimes obliviousness which makes for some hilarious and also some super angsty moments.

Beau’s an Omega playing a sport dominated by Alphas and because of decisions his previous team management took with regard to his medical care he is suffering immensely with his heats being frequent and painful. On top of that he’s traded to a rival team with a nemisis who has made him feel less than because of his scent. I loved Beau’s outgoing personality and how he finds his place and how absolutely oblivious he is to the Alphas he’s attracting are as he over compensates for being an omega. I loved sweet, steady, hot Emilio, honestly his patience is stellar when it comes to Beau as they sort of dance around figuring out where it’s going. Their banter was amazing and considering they discover he is key to helping Beau with his heats, their chemistry is HOT as it goes from necessity to all bets are off possesive .. Their journey to an HEA is bumpy one but so worth it.

Expect:
* Hockey romance
* Omegaverse
* Heat sex
* Possesive MCs
* Hurt comfort
* Slow burn
* Opposites attract
* Knotting, mating, marking, scenting

I really loved this book!!

Beau was so damn sassy and snarky. He was hilarious. Emilio was honestly so sweet and such a good alpha. They were soo cute together. I loved the intimate moments, not even them having sex but all the other parts of them just being together.

As much as I wanted to give it 5 stars, beaus obliviousness and their lack of communication took away a star for me. Neither one of them could communicate their feelings and it left me frustrated. Also Emilio told Beau twice that he loved him and Beau never said it back, the entire book Beau never said I love you to Emilio and I didn’t like that. I could feel how much he loved him so why then hell wasn’t there a declaration or even a me too? Felt weird to me.

Also not gonna lie I felt so bad for Freddie!!! Beau did him dirty without even realizing it.

NO CHEATING
OM DRAMA (Beau is so oblivious he leads Freddie on without knowing or causing an issue with him and Emilio)
NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP

Beau was the most loveable and oblivious golden retriever MC! Seriously, I had so much fun reading his story - he was so sweet and kind of dramatic at times, just such an endearing character!

This story was the best combination of omegaverse, hockey and hurt / comfort. Beau and Emilio caught my heart entirely - I completely adored them and I loved their story so much! Emilio being possessive was so hot, and I loved how affected they both were by each other’s scents.

Beau had awful heats due to past use of suppressants, and while it was difficult to see him struggle, I loved his reaction to Emilio during his heats. There was a lot of scenting and nesting going on, and Emilio was so caring and sweet. So much swoon!

It made my heart ache how Beau had some conflicted feelings about presenting as an omega, and it was awful how people in the past had made him feel bad about his scent. I was so happy that he found a team with great teammates and that he felt safe with Emilio. I really enjoyed the dynamic of the team overall - the banter and friendship among them was both entertaining and sweet.

Broken Ice takes place about a decade after the first three books, and therefore it works perfectly as a standalone. I really recommend reading the whole series though, as all of the books have been amazing! I love the way Marina Vivancos writes these story - especially the hurt / comfort and possessiveness!

What a giant eye-roll. Beau was annoying, immature, and aggravating. No time for that in real life or in my books. *chucks book*

Next.

HOWWWWW is it that this author wrote one of my favorite omegaverse books OF ALL TIME (Rough Heat), and yet, so many of their other books are just Whomp-whomp??? Pure mystery. With this author I keep picking up books with hope in my heart and just end up being annoyed and disappointed... so I guess that's it for me.

PS - I used to not rate books I DNF'd, but if I cross the 50% line, I now consider it fair game for a rating. If you can't make me like a character enough or get me invested after I've read 50% of your book, well....

Note: These days I'm finding I care a lot more about how a book makes me feel vs a need to tear it apart and analyze it from every angle. So when considering my opinion keep that in mind.
