When sin entered the world and Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden, God sent them away with a promise to restore what evil had taken. The fulfillment of this promise was inaugurated with Jesus's saving work on the cross and His resurrection, but the road to restoration does not end with eternal life. God has placed in our hearts the hope of making everything new, and we now get to uncover what that promise means for our lives now and for eternity. This six-week plan outlines what it means for everything to be made new, what will be made new, and how we can experience pieces of God's promise here on earth.
She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read God's Word together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage Scripture through curated daily reading plans, as well as online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributing writers. This community of “Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God's Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God's Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.
What a beautifully written and incredible study of what it means for everything to be made new, what will be made new, and how we can experience pieces of God's promise here on earth. This study holds a special place in my heart, as it provided much needed comfort and solace after the recent loss of my mother three weeks ago.
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Revelation 21:4-5
But the promise for everything new is not just our hope for eternity; its hope for us here and now. The pains we experience are real. But so is our God and His already-underway plan to set every single thing right.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here" 2 Corinthians 5:17
I recommend this book to anyone who is feeling the tension between the things we’re meant to hope for in our future as followers of Jesus and the pain and discomfort of today. It really encouraged me to think deeply on this tension, and seek God’s voice in what He says about it. One of my favorite takeaways was the imagery of God wiping away every tear in Revelation 2 - He isn’t a God who wipes away our memory of pain immediately or tells us it’s in the past so “get over it”, but sits with us now and will in the future to face the pain with us. He is not conflict avoidant, but wants us to bring these things to Him. In fact, He placed Himself at the very point this tension between hope and longing is through the person of Christ.
I will love having this to look back to as I wrestled through longing and prayers - some answered through the course of this study, some still in progress (but my contentment in this process has grown).
I’ve not spent much time thinking about the new Heaven and earth. I’m too engaged in the current earth. What a hope filled lesson on the future with our Jesus.
I really enjoyed this study on how God is making everything new and how to have an eternal perspective. It was a perfect way to start the year, but truly needed all the time.
A good guide if you like to journal. Not very devotional, this one is more introspective. Probably why I didn’t like it so much. I would have liked it more if I invested more of myself into it.
