As winter gradually gives way to spring, Summer and her group of survivors find themselves in a fight for their lives. Lured by a desperate need for food and supplies, they leave the safety of rural Alberta and enter the city of Lethbridge. Filled with the undead, the decision might prove to be their downfall. Surrounded by a horde of undead, Summer is abruptly torn from her friends.
Stranded and outnumbered, she grapples with the haunting uncertainty of reuniting with her companions. In the face of unspeakable terror, Summer’s only option is to fight. Will she ever see her friends again? Can she escape the city unbitten?
The Horde is an excellent short read. It delivers a classic zombie feel with unexpected twists. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves zombie fiction. Damien Richard achieves an excellent balance between action, suspense, and character development which kept me engaged with the story throughout. I won't spoil anything, but I will say that I was immediately attached to more than one character, and got misty-eyed more than once as I followed their attempts to escape a city overrun with the undead. Five stars!
