Hello From The Other Side

Rate this book
The relatively quiet suburban town of Plalam becomes the centre of attention when 96 people are found unconscious outside its local multiplex. While the authorities conduct their investigation, four young individuals find themselves experiencing different versions of the same strange hyper-realistic dream. These dreams lead them through a journey that not only explains what happened at the multiplex but also answers one of humanity’s most profound questions.

The very thrill of having another space where life exists like it does on Earth, and the sheer excitement about a possible discovery of species like us have kept us humans curious for a long time now - and Alvin has done quite a great job presenting such a story, situating it in a small suburb town in India making it relatable to the indian audience.

It is still rare, to an extent, to find Indian authors in this genre, with writings that can deliver narratives/storylines to a degree that has the precision of science-fiction as well as the element of fantasy.

The story has a good grip and pace in its execution, it keeps on building up until the last without being too mysterious or too revealing about the plot.

The four major characters, their daily personal lives, relationships with other secondary characters, details of everyday surroundings, and their emotions are expressed lucidly and convincingly; taking rather a reference from real-life contemporary issues, with little satirical remarks here and there, which are funny and hard to miss.

The author has also equally managed to keep intact the eerie effect that the plot demanded.

As a reader, I am also sold on short chapters.

This book runs on the sheer imaginative power of the author, which will seep into your mind, especially as you conclude.
