Book Six in the Wine of the Gods Universe A thousand years ago the gods said a comet had fallen. Nearly everyone had died. Now a small one is going to hit in six months . . . and a planet killer in eight years. The young witches and wizards of Ash have a lot to learn, and a lot of growing up to do.Rustle Neverdaut is going to be a powerful witch, if she survives bullies, high society, rapists and her own greatgrandmother.
And the one that deals with the comet, so darkly hinted at for the last two books... The last part of the book is absolutely engrossing, although it ends with a horrible cliffhanger as to Rustle's future...
The early part of the book feels a little unfocused, as we watch Rustle growing up over the course of a decade or so, and some of the important moments in her growth. I very much enjoyed the story and watching her, but it felt rather uneven in pace at times.
Once we got around to dealing with the comet, it was back to the fast-paced (magical) action of the previous books, and it was a nail-biter up to, and including, the end. (I had to start in on the next book immediately.)
The planet our magical friends inhabit has been code named Comet Fall by the Earthers because of periodic disastrous falling of comets to the surface with potential planet killing effect. The last major one occurred 1000 years ago and humanity barely survived.
Now a new Comet is coming and the magical denizens of Comet Fall are trying their best to find a survival strategy.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see what happens.
