Daphne Locke, twenty and alone, fights to forget the brutal events of two years ago. But just as a high-profile missing child mysteriously reappears, darkness returns to Hanging Hill Lane. Dot.

As Daphne’s memories flash back to the horrific monsters that almost cut her mind in two, she awakens to find an old friend is missing. Dot.

Then there’s the brutal beach slaughter just a few miles south. Dot. Sometimes it’s easy to connect the dots. Sometimes they connect themselves and tighten like a noose. If you feel the dots brushing your neck, run.

As Daphne learns more of the true nature of the world she lives in, darkness creeps upon her once more. Only this time, for one great hunter demon, it’s personal.

This book is part 2 of the Hanging Hill Lane trilogy or can be read as a standalone novel.

For fans of horror, supernatural, British fiction, folklore, dark fantasy, thrillers and scary books.

Baker certainly pulled no punches here and he certainly managed to get me excited for the next installment in this series because that ending had me slow blinking at my kindle for a minute. The Third Hunter is very different from the first installment (The House on Hanging Hill Lane) which had something of a fever dream aspect in a very claustrophobic package, here the main character has grown as both a person and into the universe she now inhabits, and the story is no longer confined to the house, it's a different type of horror. I really enjoyed the way things slowly but surely pulled back to show us more of the world I thought is was really nicely done.

I loved the first book in the series, but just couldn’t get into this one. Phil can write a great story, and all the other aspects I liked, however the main character Daphne was just really irritating to me. I just found myself grinding my teeth every time we had to read about her anxieties and flipflopping decisions.

Phil Baker brings us back to Hanging Hill Lane, but this time, things have gotten darker!

The Third Hunter takes place two years after the first book, and Daphne, now twenty, is coming to terms with those terrible events. She is trying to live up to her own expectations of herself but is struggling to do so. When a fresh wave of sinister things start happening, Daphne begins to connect the dots. Suddenly, she's in a race against time, and it's not just other lives at stake. Something sinister wants her out of the picture. Can Daphne connect those dots in time to save everyone she loves and herself?

Phil Baker has made Hanging Hill Lane even more terrifying than last time! While the book can be read as a standalone, I definitely recommend reading The House on Hanging Hill Lane first to get the full experience. Baker shows us that he's not afraid to go even darker, and there are some rather shocking moments throughout. Deliciously dark, and gory at times, I highly recommend this one.

This was a deliciously dark ride of a book with moments that made me wince along with the pain, gasp along with the shocks and actually laugh at the absolute cheek of the demon! This was so good, even better than Hanging Hill Lane which I loved. A very unique story with great characters, tension, scares and mystery. I need the next book and any other books by this author immediately!

This thrilling frightening novel takes the horror seriously and you're going to be on board for a bloody creepy ride from the very first page.

While this is the second book in a series, the author has done a fantastic job at keeping us up to date on the events of the first book. We know witches are real and are the first defense against literal demons who manifest in the woods.

When a yacht crashes into rocks, six people are found to be horrifically murdered. Our protagonist knows it was demonic in nature but, of course, nobody would believe that. Add to that some people who have gone missing under suspicious circumstances, a little girl who's been missing for two years, and a demon that's stalking our protagonist and killing people she loves just to torture her and things are going to get wild!

This novel hits like a rogue wave and carries you along on its terrifying currents. It's full of suspense, action, and horrors that send shivers down your spine. Oh, and things will definitely get brutally bloody. I now have to actually read the first book in this series and absolutely will read the next as well. This is straight ahead horror that is well written and grabs your attention. I highly recommend it!

The second installment of the Hanging Hill Lane series and a great follow-up. Set two years after the first, this story is a lot darker.
I really enjoyed it although I wasn't a fan of the ending again. I do hope there will be a third book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in what I guess I’ll call the Hanging Hill series. This one didn’t quite grip me as well as the Darkness Creeps Closer.

I’m more than happy I read it and when the next instalment comes out I may be back to revise my 3.5 rounded down.

Some things I learned -
- don’t trust piskies ( Looking at you Daph)
- don’t trust previously demon possessed people ( eyes still on you Daph)
- don’t ask creepy women that live in the woods and only have one nostril a single goddmaned question
- DON’T keep secrets or you and your loved one might end up dead ( Sarah, sister, locking you dead in the eyes)
- I guess a child can be possessed, living in the woods eating raw vermin for TWO years and come relatively unscathed.
- we don’t kill 9 year old girls, but we’re happy to kill off toddlers. (WTH)
- hanging hill lane only has one resident now

Some things I WISH for I learned
- what the hell is Paulie and why was he introduced only to end up as great big ole nothing burger?!
- Joanne Bach - nope. Give me more. What the hell is with the creeping around the edges of people and giving us actual nothing.
- MORE back story other than the tease of the 1600 ‘witches’

I’m invested, but come on man …. Write a big book or release stuff closer together.

Well, this is the direct sequel to the amazing Hanging Hill Lane book, the second in what will presumably evolve into a series; it can also be read on its own. But if you've read the first one, you're in for some wonderful twists and surprises, as the world-building of the first book expands, and expands, and expands...! Awesome new details, terrific new developments, plus some familiar characters show up and mess up everything! This is, no doubt, the perfect way to visit again Hanging Hill Lane and follow Daphne, the young witch, going through some very painful moments -even up to the very last pages!- in order to reach her potential. However, this is definitely not a book of self-discovery, at least not in the way the first book was. There are several plotlines twisting through each other into almost impossible knots, new faces get involved into Daphne's life and some old ones are shown the exit - creepy little girls go bonkers, catatonic women wake up shouting, and demons lurk in the most unlikely of places: the human heart. Admittedly, Daphne herself was not my favorite character, but there's potential here and, if there's another book, I think she will grow on me. So I'll keep an eye for Philip Baker's next book, wondering how he's gonna top this one!

Following the events of 2yrs ago when Daphne had barely survived and many others had been slaughtered, she lives a quiet life alone save for her friend Sara.

But then, a deadly boat accident, her college friend disappears, a missing child reappears and the flashbacks of her past become more terrifying as Daphne realises the darkness is returning.

A wonderfully macabre folk horror that mixes mythology and the occult into a delicious blend. The story is steeped in creatures of folklore, living alongside humans but unseen, working with and for the evil that stalks Hanging Hill Lane.

Daphne’s anxiety and feelings of worthlessness make her weak and unsure of herself. She doubts her every action but as she begins to understand more of the world around her, an old foe returns seeking retribution and battle lines are drawn pulling in everything and everyone Daphne cares about.

The imagery is brutal and visceral, the grief and desperation debilitating, the horror a mix of folk and supernatural that does not hold back and you will feel Daphne’s frustration with herself. This is far darker than The House on Hanging Hill Lane and although this can be read as a standalone, the original novella is excellent and well worth a read.

A cracking fast paced horror that will keep you guessing as it twists in directions you do not see coming!

Thank you to Phil Baker for the e-arc, views are my own.

I have not read The House on Hanging Hill Lane but was still able to follow this story without confusion but I definitely need go back and read that since I liked this one so much! This was a dark, fast paced and full of all kinds of scary goodness! There is still time to read the first book, from reading other reviews I have seen that there is great character growth in this book and some nuances you might miss if you haven’t read it but that will be no confusion with the plot. I’m sure it’s just as great as this one was!

I felt that the character growth and development in this book was fantastic. I loved the evil in this book as it was truly terrifying and overall the characters were all so great and worked perfectly in this story! The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and the pacing was perfect to keep you hooked and interested and never bored. I really enjoyed this and thank you so much to the author for gifting me with this ARC! I am hopeful for another book in this series and in the meantime I’m going to have to check out the first!

I loved The House on Hanging Hill Lane and have been eagerly awaiting The Third Hunter. If you haven’t read THOHHL then I’d definitely recommend that you do as it really sets the scene for this far this story. However, this novel definitely holds it’s own as a standalone too.

We pick up Daphne’s story a couple of years later and her character development is excellent. I found myself genuinely caring about her and her terrifying new journey.

Baker’s writing is gripping and immersive. I loved the more sinister tone of this second book. Dark and sometimes gruesome but never unnecessarily so. The story is twisty and you will have your mind blown my the changes in direction more than once. I felt genuinely uneasy and scared at points. There’s something here for everyone/ folklore, demons, mystery, suspense, beautiful prose. A cracking novel and I can’t wait to see if there is more to come.

A welcome return to Hanging Hill Lane that has turned deliciously darker!

Daphne is struggling to fulfil her potential as destined by her lineage. Some things she must discover by herself, however painful, as tales of folklore become a new reality.

The characterisation is fantastic. You feel every element of Daphne’s doubt, frustration and confusion. The prose generates intense imagery - particularly the subtlety of repetition which heightens the sense of despair and with vivid descriptives that are much darker than the first book.

While this could be read aa a stand-alone, I would strongly recommend reading the House on Hanging Hill Lane first. The Third Hunter releases on 27 January, so there is plenty of time to whet the appetite with the first book, before this hits the world!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Picking up 2 years after the events of The House on Hanging Hill Lane, we find Daphne trying to live her life as normal as she can and forget about what happened. But a boating accident and disappearing people lead her to believe that the darkness is returning. And she is right. Can she put the pieces together soon enough to stop it in time, as she continues to doubt her every move? Can she get the help she needs from her friend, Sara? Fighting a relentless demon is hard work, but Daphne is in it for the long haul and determined to win. And speaking of wins - the twists at the end were definite wins! When I thought all was well, BAM! Highly recommend!

As soon as I finished this, I immediately wanted more. Baker is an amazing storyteller and has a way of making you feel all the feelings. It is meant to be a sequel to The House on Hanging Hill Lane however, it is so well written that you don’t even need too. Although I do suggest it as it made the story that much better for me. If you haven’t read either of these, why not? Get out there and read them!

Rounded up to 4.5 stars but the ending meant I couldn't give it 5. I did not see the ending happening, I did not like the ending and there are too many unanswered questions regarding other characters who for me played more than a small part.

Is there a book 3? Better be!

Thank you to the author for providing a review copy.
The second installment of Hanging Hill Lane takes us to a much darker, bleaker place than the first book. Baker's writing also seems to have matured and solidified. Although it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first book, as otherwise you'll be missing a lot of character growth and some backstory. I hope we're not done with Hanging Hill Lane quite yet, as I'm really enjoying the world that the author has created. 4.25 stars

I think the best review I can give for this book is that I was invested. I've been in a trap of reading for the sake of reading, but Baker had me pulling my hair, screaming, writing angry fb posts, and attempts to reach into my Kindle to shake characters. Hours later, Im still thinking about twists that happened and twists I thought were coming that never did.
There were moments that I worried too much was happening, but Baker tied them together seamlessly.
I truly hope there will be a third book cause I can't wait to dive back into the world at Hanging Hill Lane.

I also want to note this book can be read as a standalone but does mention the first book a few times so reading it does give some context.

If you read Phil Baker’s runaway hit, The House on Hanging Hill Lane, you’ll be thrilled to know that the sequel is due to be released in less than a week from now. And it’s even better than the first!
The Third Hunter picks up a couple of years after the events of The House on Hanging Hill Lane, with our favourite heroine, Daphne, just about coming to terms with the aftermath and moving into a new, more positive phase in her life.
But her world is shaken suddenly by a violent incident that links directly to her past. She’s determined to get to the bottom of a friend’s disappearance, all while keeping her new boyfriend and loved ones (including the ever-loyal Sarah) safe and sound. But she’s stalked by a terrifying demon, harassed by entities only dreamed of in fairy tales, and led down a deceptive path that could put Daphne’s own life in danger.
As always, Baker writes with skill and passion, dragging you into Daphne’s world. You can’t help but root for her every step of the way, and I felt every frustration, doubt, moment of determination, and surge of power from our heroine ❤️ The ending is jaw-dropping.
I was honoured and moved to see that Phil chose to include The Suffering within the story, having Daphne read the book. I never dreamed my book could be an Easter egg in anything, let alone a series as special as this. Like Daphne, I don’t often cry, but you definitely got me there, Phil!
Check out this amazing story as soon as it’s out. If you haven’t yet read The House on Hanging Hill Lane, I urge you to grab it and start the series asap. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with Daphne just as much as I have!

Loved this one! Full of creepy scenes and British folklore, it is a well crafted supernatural horror and in some way also a mystery.
The second instalment of the Hanging Hill Lane trilogy did not disappoint and I have to admit I liked it more than the first book, where the ending was (in my opinion) weak. Well, in stark comparison, this one has such an ending! All the way through the book I was trying to connect the dots, failing miserably!

Again as in the first book the author manages to create such creepy and disturbing scenes, giving me chills and stirring such strong emotions! I still picture in my head some of those images! One of the scenes that I still remember from the first book was around the spy hole of the MC's front door and I was pleasantly surprised (as disturbing as it is) to read again about it with new ominous and spooky scenes. I don't know what it is but the author knows how to spook me with that!!

I loved learning about all the folklore (unknown to me), with some very scary creatures which I hope I never encounter. I also enjoyed reading some of the characters' background story, adding a historical depth to the book's location.

I highly recommend this read to any lovers of supernatural horror with a bit of mystery, evil folklore, creepy children and scenes! This can be read as a standalone but I suggest you read the first as well to get a full picture.

Thanks to the author for a copy and this is my honest opinion.

Phil Baker has a habit to get under my skin big time with his books.

His first one, The House on Hanging Hill Lane touched me in ways beyond my capacity to express in spoken or written words. Because I've read it in a time when I was racked with the grief of losing my dad. And the story in the first book revolved around the grief of losing a parent.

His second book, The third hunter is something else all together. It felt like Phil, a person who I never met in real life, has reached into my soul and pulled out all my insecurities and fears and put them into creating the character Daphne.

During the first book, I wasnt so aware of these deep similiarities because I was so focused on the grief. But in the ARC of The third hunter, I realised how much Daphne represents all I hate in myself day after day.
The difference is that I manage to get over the insecurities and the fears and show myself up like a strong person. Which for Daphne took a little too long to do, time in which I had a massive urge to punch her in the face and shake her to reality.😅😅

So this book made me realise that afterall I am not as weak as I thought I was, and I dont like people who give up easily. Im sorry if this sounds harsh, but I'd rather be a warrior than a victim.
And with his book, Phil touched my soul again and made me know myself a little better.
So pick up his awesome book, when it's out you might learn a thing or two.

This follow-up to The House on Hanging Hill Lane: Darkness Creeps Closer, takes place two years after the events of said book, and delves more not only into what happened in that book, but goes on to build a much richer and deeper world, expanding and Baker’s previous work.

The Third Hunter, through its closer and broader look at the world Baker created, introducing us to new characters, creatures, lore and the dark history of Hanging Hill Lane. With this added richness and depth to his world, he revs up the tension, creepiness and violence, each shock more horrific than the last.

This story follows Daphne as she comes to grip with prior events, learns more about who she is, and the greater evils that are out there waiting for her. Along with her allies, she does her best to navigate these new challenges, through doubts, despair and pain. She also finds strength, love and resilience too.

The whole tale continuously builds to the final confrontation that is both satisfying and shocking. This one will definitely give a few gut punches, but will also leave you asking for me. I greatly look forward to seeing the next continuation of the goings on at Hanging Hill Lane.

The Third Hunter comes out tomorrow and is still available for preorder. This is a sequel to The House on Hanging Hill Lane. It can be read as a stand alone, but I feel readers would be missing out on an incredible book with characters who they will care about immediately. Readers should know about what happened on Hanging Hill Lane and witness Daphne's personal growth.

The Third Hunter is set two years after the events in the first one. It goes into more emotional depth with Daphne's anxieties, memories, and grief. She continues to battle herself as well as the supernatural. Despite everything, she finds the strength to fight. Baker addresses generational trauma, giving us hope for someone breaking it down one day. He writes this in a beautifully written way that connects the main characters. I enjoyed his world-building and I often lost track of time while reading it. Definitely pay attention to the details he gives, because my jaw dropped after everything went into place.

I will be rereading this again in the near future. What a journey!

The Third Hunter is a fantastic sequel to The House On Hanging Hill Lane: set 2 years later it is darker, more intense and gorier.
Now 20, Daphne realises that the events from 2 years earlier are not done, and with terrible coincidental occurrences happening all around her, she needs to connect the dots if she wants to save herself.

The pace of the story is great, with characters from the first book developed even more and new characters built up from the start as well as an action-packed plot. Daphne is a great heroine: you can feel her isolation, fear and strength coming off the pages.
If you haven’t read House on Hanging Hill Lane don’t worry; you can enjoy this as a stand-alone novel. But if you want to know all of the nuances of the story, check that out first. You won’t regret it.

This is a really strong sequel and you won’t regret reading it!

Baker is back and once again taking us to the streets of Hanging Hill Lane, only this time the stakes are much higher! 4 ⭐
While this is a direct sequel to his debut novel House on Hanging Hill Lane, you can definitely read this as a stand alone as well. Baker does an excellent job of sprinkling the information the reader needs from the previous book throughout so you are never lost or confused by what's happening on the page or character motivations. You can also tell he has grown as an author with this release and is more comfortable with his world and characters. I'm excited to see where things go in the next book and I hope to see this return to the Indie Brawl brackets later this year. If you're looking for something fun and fast paced with demons, witches, and magic then give this series a try!

The third hunter was a whole new level of evil compared to the first book!
It was way darker, more horrific, much more mature than I expected.
Really well written with several complex storylines, it is rich in British folklore, where we learn of a few lesser known creatures - that was one of my favourite thing about it!
Daphne's friends i really liked, they were diverse in themselves and I'm really looking forward to the third book (there will be one, right?) to follow this up. However Daphne was my least favourite character as she hadn't yet grown into herself and relied heavily on everyone around her for solutions. I'm hopeful she will get more growth in the next book.
The ending was nicely done, with a shocking finish, it really caught me off guard, still sitting here reeling from it...
Highly recommended!!

Once again Daphne is led by clues that may or may not help her. She is no closer to gaining her witch powers and with new dangers, Daphne really needs help.
In this book I was introduced to some characters from folklore and new descriptions of demons. The reader is led on so many journeys throughout this book. There is something so special about this book. One minute the reader thinks things are going well when the rug is pulled out from under the reader. I really liked Daphne and I was so angry for her. Everyone thought she was incapable of fighting the demon and therefore left out important information. I gasped at the ending and shook my head….WHY!?!?

I got this book as an ARC (thanks again) but my review is completely mine and has no influence.

I did not read the first book in this series, however I had no issues following along. I’ll definitely be going back to read book 1 and can’t see any issues in reading out of order either.

Hanging Hill Lane is creepy, the characters are well developed and I found myself invested in their story. It does reference events from book one but not in a way where I was at any point confused.

I would absolutely recommend checking this out as a creepy January read. I’m so glad I read this and I will be recommending it to friends!

I really loved this sequel to The House on Hanging Hill Lane! I enjoyed the first one so much so of course I jumped on the chance to read the second one. While you don’t have to read the first one I highly recommend it!

2 years after the events of the first book, this story is gripping from the beginning. It was so creepy throughout and the spooky little girl- nope. The characters were well developed and I loved the stories given to side characters from the first one. Much darker and the plot was well balanced with story and scares. Easily 5 stars from me!

Thanks Philip Baker for an ARC of this! I loved it!

I had the privilege of receiving and ARC of this! I loved The House On Hanging Hill Lane, so I was very excited when I found out there was a sequel.
This follows Daphne as she tries to live her life after the tragic events that took place on Hanging Hill Lane. This book is filled with twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Daphne finds help from an unexpected friend. She is tricked by evil and the end will leave you with your jaw on the floor! I really enjoyed this book. If you haven’t read The HouseThe Hanging Hill Lane I highly recommend it before this one comes out. Thank you so much Phil Baker this was amazing!
