Harlow Hawkins has spent the last decade wishing she could manage a tour as high profile as the ones she used to handle with Maine Event. Which is why she doesn’t hesitate to accept the band manager position again for the Maine Event reunion tour. She’s ready to be back on the road doing what she loved.
Riley DeLuca is the self-proclaimed biggest fan of Maine Event. She’s been following the band since they formed at the Moonflower Cove High School and has an entire blog dedicated to all things Maine Event. Having turned her love of blogging into a social media marketing business, Riley is beyond thrilled when she’s hired to be the social media manager for the Maine Event Reunion tour.
Through all the excitement of the tour, Harlow and Riley never thought about how they’d be traveling with the band. So when they discover they have to share not only a bus but also a bed, the two must learn to live together despite their personality differences.
Can always sunny Riley win gloomy Harlow over with her personality? Or will these two fail to embrace the chance they’ve been given to fall in love?
This was super cute. And I loved that it was happening during the tour in "Back to Us."
Riley and Harlow are adorable. It's funny how, at first, they couldn't read each other, then it just clicked! Then it was like they were meant for each other. So sweet 🥰
A Sweet and Entertaining “Cove On The Road” Love Story!
Wow! This was great! I love Riley and Harlow! Both are spitfires in their own right and both are vulnerable to a fault. Both had extreme jobs with “Maine Event” and seemed to have all the confidence and answers in the world to help the band but when it came to themselves they were lost. Even though there were a lot of differences which became noticeable when they are forced to share a bus on tour. The duo developed an attraction for each other but without truly understanding who each other were, neither were ready to understand and persue. What better way then to head to the Cove to set them straight. The book had the right amount of attraction and chemistry to keep us entertained and rooting for the both of them. I love how the writer keeps each book in the proper time period and within the proper events happening at the time it should be. That’s talent!
There was *so* much potential in the story but I cannot rate it higher than 2 stars as it is. Harlow and Riley would have deserved a full length novel that would have been edited properly.
Harlow's asexuality and Riley's apparent neurodivergency could have lead to similarly sweet romance as in Jae's Perfect Rhythm. Now everything happened quickly and things were left out. It's a general problem with novellas but here some problems were more apparent. And not to mention all the errors and technical issues: dozens of typos, use of wrong gender (they/their instead of she/her - was Harlow nonbinary in an earlier draft?), inconsistent timeline with Back to Us...
The novella truly felt like a beta draft. Maybe if it was given more time and effort, it could have been a lot better than #1 book of the series (Back to Us). It could have been such a great companion book. Now the story felt rushed.
Riley has created and manages the fan blog for Maine Event since they were founded. Hired to be their media manager for the reunion tour she’s overjoyed. Harlow is the tour manager and has established a flawless schedule. Sharing a small motor coach they get to know each other and grow closer. A slow burn summer romance. Great series.
Cute quick read. Follows along nicely from the previous book. Both main characters are written well, even though Harlow’s name does change a few times it doesn’t take anything away from the story. Look forward to more from the Cove.
Riley and Harlow were great together. It was nice to read about a relationship and not just the sex. They had a very intimate relationship. They will deepen it, but when the time is right. Love all the stories in the Cove.
This was a cute follow-up to Back to Us. Always nice to revisit with Skylar and Elena. The story of how Harlow and Riley got together, their insecurities, getting beyond them to trusting each other was nicely told.
This novella is the second book in a series that I have not read but from this book I kind of assume that their relationship develops in the background of Back to Us: A Cove on the Road Romance and was fleshed out here. It feels that way because we skip over many scenes I would have found relevant/interesting I would presume were also covered in book 1 and the author did not want to repeat too much. But that means One Summer to Forever does not really hold up on its own. Riley and Harlow meet when the band Maine Event goes on a reunion tour, as the tour manager and social media manager, respectfully. They kind of get off on the wrong foot, with changing plans and opposite personalities making their introduction awkward. But having to share a tour bus (and a bed) quickly smooths over any bumps and shows them how well they fit together. Sadly, the story spends so much time summarising events and explaining their emotional states than letting experience those moments. It shows in the way that Skylar and Elena randomly pop up despite them being part of the band they are supposedly on tour with (not to mention the rest of the members). It shows in that I should not feel so dissatisfied with "I love you"s after they've supposedly spend months together by then.
It's also a romance between two asexual lesbians (the word lesbian isn't used but both only talk about their interest in women; Riley does not use a specific ace label either). Harlow is settled in her identity but has a minor crisis because her new feelings seem different this time; I liked how Clarke made that obvious without turning it sexual. Riley seems to me unaware of her asexuality but on the neutral as to important she views sex for a relationship. Despite that, she is quick to nip any acephobic statements in the bud!
