Domestic abuse is something which happens to other people......or does it? Two women, Jodie Harrison and Honey Sullivan, from opposite backgrounds, thought it wouldn't happen to them..... They were wrong....Josh, Jodie's doctor husband physically abuses her, due in part to his sadist sexual urges. Honeys husband emotionally blackmails her and forces her to work, although seriously ill. She stands up to him causing him to wreak a terrible revenge ..... Both Jodie and Honey find themselves in a terrifying fight for their lives.....and the lives of those closest to them . ....... Will they escape ..And if so... at what cost ?
Probably the most poor piece of writing I have ever read. Bad grammar, punctuation and clearly not proof read. Writing about something you have no idea about, is not a great plan. Clearly has done no research into the reality of domestic abuse, and has made the subject into a facade. For all the women who are being abused in this world, this is a shameful representation.
This fantastic book was an absolute page turner for me. It kept me up until the wee small hours when I should have been fast asleep. The author has penned a suspenseful tale peppered with twists and turns that will take you on a roller coaster of a ride!
The characters leapt off the page they were so believable. One or two were nasty and menacing at times. Others like 'Vince' were a complete enigma. It was hard to work out if he was going to be a good guy or bad guy in this story. But that's the wonder of T. M. Hartley's writing for you. She has the reader on the edge of their seat and if you have long fingernails there won't be any left by the end of the story.
This novel had it all for me: suspense, intrigue, humour, emotion, action and reaction and much more. The main character, 'Jodie', showed her strength and at times, human weaknesses, throughout this story. But over all, she had a feisty spirit which spurred her on. She was very real and 3 Dimensional. In fact, you won't find any 'cookie cutter' characters in this book. They're all believable. Like someone you might know and either love or despise.
The club in itself became a major character in the book. Its shadowy activities and the thoughts of men from the town of Merthyr Tydfil, who portray themselves to be respectable members of the community, indulging in extreme BDSM practices, both intrigue and baffle at times. Until you learn as the reader why one man in particular uses the 'chambers of pleasure and pain' to quell his own perverted desires that he cannot practice in his own marriage.
The same man, who in turn, despises his own wife so much that he puts her through hell and back as a means to both self flagellate and inflict pain on the one woman he should truly love.
This book is breathtakingly good and I'll guarantee you've never read another like it. Go on be a devil... order it today....
Really good storyline following a domestic abuse situation. I read this over a couple of evenings, it kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I didn't like the abuser from the first introduction and warmed very quickly to the support network. I really enjoyed this book as the story flows well and comes to a very satisfactory ending (tongue in cheek) 8) however; I really feel that it really does need to be updated with regard to proof reading and correcting of errors to provide optimum enjoyment.
I realy liked this book it was a page turner although sometimes I found the story in places going into unnecessary detail over some things and in some places it seemed to miss and skim over things. There were a lot of proof reading errors which didn't detract from the story at all. What I really liked about it is how it showed that a "normal" person can become a victim of abuse and why the abused goes back, the conflicts and doubts it creates.
This is a book abut how domestic abuse begins and how the victim can forgive the abuser, or not quite believe that they are a bad person, and still want to love them. We see Jodie dealing with her conflicted feelings for her husband. We see 'bad' people with good hearts, 'good' people with bad hearts. It's certainly thought provoking and definitely a page-turner.
