A coven of witches hidden by a small town. The secrets buried deep in the past are finally breaking ground. The third generation of coven kids are now faced with the task of fixing the mistakes of their ancestors. With time running out can they save the world from their past? Or will they die trying to save us all?
I’m a mother of three, (6 if you count my husband, dog, and cat) who loves reading and writing. For years I wrote and published poetry, finally giving novel writing a try. I just wanted to write. I was sick of reading about over done vampires and werewolves. The battle over who was better, Edward or Jacob; vampire or werewolf, I’ve read it all before. I wanted more out of my paranormal romance, something that hasn’t been touched in a while. The world needs a break from the normal and what better way than a whole new playing field?
I’m a big fan of supernatural/paranormal reads, especially those of the YA variety, so after reading the blurb, I was excited to get stuck into The Vilincia Coven: The Watcher. I loved the opening pages, as Jennifer Thompson takes the time to lay out the founding families, explaining their part in the history of the town, which gives the reader a good foundation to begin the story on.
The book would benefit hugely from some solid editing and a proofread. There are grammar and punctuation errors, along with the need for structural developments, which is a shame as this takes the focus away from the story itself.
The pace is fast, the characters are unique yet flawed in their own way and the overall concept is an interesting one. It has a feel of the House of Night series about it, what with the setting and hoards of teen characters, and I think if ironed out, it could be a book to get your teeth into.

The Watcher is the first book in The Vilincia Coven series. Even though the cover isn't good at all and won't catch your attention, it is a very fast paced story, filled with mystery and suspense. Some of the characters are very relate-able and even though this story has a couple grammar errors, the reader can turn a blind eye and enjoy this paranormal romance story.
I did had a doubt in something. This school parties every night. I didn't know that existed but that's cool. It is an enjoyable story, one that every reader will love.
Wow. This book is pretty awesome. It's like all in one. From mystery, romance, paranormal, action, to adventure. I didn't expect I'd like this book. If you didn't know, I'm not really a fan of books in third person point of view, so I didn't get my hopes up for this book.
Whenever I pick up this book, I can't stop reading unless I needed to eat or do something important. From the very beginning of this book, I love how everything was explained. From explaining the Vilincia town, the founding 8 families, the family who turned dark, and everything else I needed to know.
The characters were pretty good. All of them are flawed, they admitted themselves and that's one of the reasons why I loved this book. My favorite character would be Benson, Cole's best friend. I just find him hilarious and a trustworthy friend. My least favorite character would be Felicia, she's going to be a future god as mentioned in the book and all she cares about is being a god and pursuing Cole to love her back. She's like an attention whore. Oops, sorry.
I find this book hilarious in some ways. Like, demons would just appear out of nowhere and attack people. I'm like What just happened? and also, they party every damn night. I didn't know there was a school who parties every night but eventually I learned to love everything about this book.
If you'd ask me why I only gave 4 and a half stars when I loved it. That's because I found some misspelled words. Like the word borrowed, in the book it's barrowed. I forgot the other words but I'm pretty sure the word borrowed was one of them... but it's still damn good!
Without further explanation, I loved the book from the beginning until the end. I can't wait for book two! Big thanks to the author of this book Miss Thompson for sending me a copy and letting me read an awesome book. Thank you so much! Good luck.
So I'm a fan of Witches and Paranormal. As soon as I read the summary of this book, I dived at the chance to read it. It truly had a interesting summary and I was intrigued to see what sort of adventure and twists this story would have.
We are briefly introduced into the Vilincia world, given a little back story on the coven that involved 8 families. Set in a more modern day and age, we have our main protagonist Cole Taylor - his destiny is to become the god to protect mankind. Cole is assigned a Watcher who would observe and protect him for 2 years before leaving. This Watcher happens to be the daughter of one of the families part of the coven that were cursed many years ago, and the girl Cole falls in love with.
This is a very fast paced and easy read. I breezed through the book in no time at all and found myself enjoying it an awful lot. There are a lot of characters that made the book fun and enjoyable. There is magic and dark elements that made it gritty and thrilling and despite the grammatical errors, I really liked it. It is very different to anything I've read and Cole makes a very strong protagonist. (I also loved the fact that he wasn't some hormonal teenage boy, he was very sweet when it came to his relationship with Whitney!) His friendship with Benson was admirable. I loved reading their scenes and watching their friendship grow even stronger. They make a great pair!
I would have liked if some scenes were a little longer as I felt more could have been said. We get quite a lot of jumping from scene to scene and it's pretty quick too. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it. There is so much mystery and action, a bit of everything really. Lots of romance too! It's just a really fun and exciting book! The twists are never-ending and I really look forward to reading the next book. I recommend people give this book a try!
I love books with paranormal elements, and this one didn’t let me down. It started with important history on the founder families of Vilincia, which is fascinating enough to get its own book. Then everything changed to the present, and we’re right in the middle of college (private school) life. I liked the mix of typical teenage drama and dynamics with the witchy element to it. The author managed to catapult me right into the middle of the action, and she introduced flawed, authentic characters. Her use of dialogue was really good, but in my opinion we could have done with more descriptions to underline the action and make things scarier and more mysterious. We get to know a bit about gods and demons and witchcraft, and there’s a nice dose of romance mixed into the story. If you like YA books and easy, light to digest, paranormal books, you’ll enjoy this novel. The story didn’t have me hooked right from the start, but sticking with it was a good idea, for things became more interesting and fast-paced. The editing and proofing could have been a lot better though…
This book started off a bit slow and took me a while to get into it, but it picked up and when it did it moved very quickly, a little to quick honestly. It follows Cole who has a watcher named Whitney. They have a bit of a relationship in the book. Together they and their friends are trying to fight an evil that has been long awaiting its return.
This book was an okay read, but it was very over descriptive. I think it could have had less of the non necessary stuff such as meals, showers, etc. As for the story line it was okay. An old evil is coming to take over the new world. A young boy and his friends must do what they can to save the world. It had a very common story line. So to me it didn't stand out as different. It was okay though...Stormi
