“Believe me when I tell you, you are not tethered to your abuser.”

another installment in this beautiful graphic novel series that has very much taken the book community (and the rest of the world) by storm. we follow hades and persephone navigating their relationship, and their own mental health, in a very unforgiving world.

i feel like i can’t say too much with this being volume seven (which feels insane to type btw), but the bright shining light in this installment was seeing persephone going to therapy and talking about her sa. it was really beautiful, and i know it will help a lot of readers of this beloved series, and i just loved it completely.

oh, and seeing hermes and persephone’s past? adored every panel! i also really enjoyed learning more about zeus, poseidon, and hades pasts and the things they were forced to do, too. but besides these things…well, this might not have been my favorite volume, but i absolutely cannot wait for what will come next.

cws from the author at the start of this book: physical + mental abuse, sexual trauma, + toxic relationships

other tw/cw i wrote down: nightmares, threat of sa, cheating in past, talk of infertility, vomit, parents talking about their child’s body, courtroom/trial setting

that ending was a solid cliffhanger & the bonus chapter was super cute! (I have the b&n edition; idk if it's in the regular one.) I will forever love the art & vibes of this series despite it feeling messy and discombobulated at times

Reading a "Lore Olympus" volume is always so much fun! This is definitely one of my favorite comics/webtoons!

This volume has a lot of chapters that allow the narrative to progress, along with the absolutely hilarious scenes, the sweet moments, the full on heartbreak... and the myth, characteristics that Rachel Smythe has made familiar for her readers. As always, I cannot wait to know what happens next, especially as this volume ends up in a major cliffhanger!

I love the drama, the gossip and the overall craziness of Olympus and its' many characters. But I also love to read the dynamics the author has created, the way myth and legend is incorporated in a story with modern shapes, the way relationships and personalities develop over time. In this volume, I specifically love reading Persephone's scenes with Chiron, in therapy; those were extremely well done, in my opinion.

An added bonus is the fact that every single frame has the most gorgeous art; the colors are gorgeous, the clothes and hair of every character, the scenery... it is all so beautiful and it truly enhances the reading experience!

If you haven't read this webtoon before, I truly recommend it, while reminding everyone that while this is an overall fun story, it still deals with serious themes than can be triggering (but the volumes do include specific trigger warnings)! Having that said, I can't wait to see what happens next! 🩷🩵

P.S. Hermes is a whole mood this entire volume lol 🤣

Kore walking around with Hades' smallest dog tucked into her fur coat is just inexplicably hilarious and one of the reasons why these books continue to delight me. It's the little details in the deceptively simple style. It's the way she's captured the natures of the gods, the gist of their big stories, and turned them into this really gripping, rather soapy, story.

And man, Thanatos is SUCH a HIMBO!

Volume 7 was a lot of fun to read. Majority of the book was about the trial of Persephone & her mother Demeter. Zeus acted as the judge & Hades acted as the defending lawyer for Persephone. The storyline was as usual very easy to follow & no doubt it was an entertaining page turner… Looking forward to read Volume 8.

⟡ ⋮ ₊✎⋆. my thoughts

This might just be the best volume I've read so far. A highly alcoholic cocktail of pure conflict, beauty, and drama, one cannot help but observe through binoculars with widely open eyes. There was barely any time for poor me to blink and take a proper breath. I swear, stuff was just being thrown at my face left and right, highs were morphing into lows, lows turning back into highs... I'm still slightly dizzy from it all. If I could give volume seven, I don't know, six stars instead of five - I would. There was everything I could've asked for and more in here. I'll refrain from going into too much detail, of course, but honestly? There's no need for me to use any particular spoilers when everything I wish to say consists of incoherent rambling about feelings anyway.

Like, the sheer vulnerability of both Hades and Persephone. I was clutching my chest when he shared her honesty and decided to expose the wounds of his past to her. Seeing them interact on such a tender, disarming footing touched me deeper than any romantic scene ever could. And just when I thought this small moment was gone, he proceeded to share more! His complicated relationship with the goddess Hera, the price of becoming the ruler of tartarus and the king of the underworld. This man saw Persephone acting self-conscious over petty gossip once, and then he was like: Alright. I'll just tell you everything you need to know now, so you'll never feel this way again.

And Persephone... I'm just glad my baby finally gave therapy a chance. She really needed a safe space to speak about her issues out loud. Her therapist is a wonderful, very professional woman, and apart from Eros, who knows more than others do, Persephone never really had anyone in her life she could share her traumas with. A third person's perspective can be of invaluable help, especially when we have no other opinion apart from our own, and while we're deeply afraid of disappointing people around us with selfish decisions, it's important to remember that our family cannot plan our whole future for us. Persephone is her own person; she's the one who will be forced to live it. So I really hope she will choose her happiness in the end and won't let duty overpower her individuality. Not to mention the heartbreaking way she continues to see herself after being assaulted. I can't even find it in me to go into details, I just- god, I wish I could give her an enormous hug. Fuck Apollo.

If I didn't use goodreads on a day-to-day basis and felt any less comfortable than I am now with writing my messy reviews, I think I would spontaneously combust. There are so many things I wish to yap about, I hope you guys realize we're basically best friends at this point. Yes, all of you, even those who are seeing me for the first time, right now. I'm an introvert. No one ever heard me say this many words before; it's a bestie's privilege. So congratulations, you just gained a new friend.

And you better be happy about it, or else... 🔪
I don't know, I'll cry, I suppose, I'm a pacifist by heart.

⟡ ⋮ ⚠️ spoiler segment ⚠️ ꒱

I still don't know how the hell I want this part to look.

1. We're on goddamn trial. While I was hoping to speak about Persephone's therapy and Hades sharing informations about both his coronation and his previous affair with Hera, I already kind of mentioned it in the previous segment, so I might as well speak about the juiciest details right now. Like, how utterly fucked this whole situation is? We have ass-face Apollo parading around as if he owns the place, both degrading and wanting Persephone all the same, paparazzi ratting him out about trying to marry her without her knowledge, Demeter still trying to hide from her daughter that she's a fertility goddess, and if that wasn't enough, everyone is arguing like children, because of course they are! It's hilarious as hell, don't get me wrong, but here I am - sitting stone-faced with my own heart stuck inside my throat, and suddenly Thetis barges in, carrying Minthe-plant in her arms, while Zeus and Poseidon comment on Hermes' mother and how big her bosom is. Give me a break.

2. Hades being a protective, almost-boyfriend. Gosh... The way this man yearns. Being on trial must be a nightmare, but with Hades acting all fierce, 'touch her, and I'll kill you' mode, I sometimes struggle to care as much as I should. There's nothing sexier (apart from healthy communication skills) than a man using his power and influence to protect the woman he loves. Will it work though? I'm not sure about that, from what I faintly remember about the season finale... Yeah, I'm already mentally preparing myself to end up sobbing like a baby. But what I do know is that we're much, much closer to Hades being told what happened between Kore and Apollo. And god, I'm waiting for shit to hit the fan so anxiously. Persephone deserves to share her truth, fuck this guy and his reputation, fuck being an eternal maiden, and fuck whoever made her think exposing this man wasn't a good idea.

3. Thanatos and Daphne. I was so happy when I saw them getting together. I swear, I didn't remember a single thing about these two, and yet, from the moment I saw them together, I immediately knew there was something there. It's so satisfying to see a ship become canon. I still have some serious beef with Thanatos, but considering he was always the most reasonable of the devilish trio, I'm mostly happy he found some decent company in Daphne. She could be a very good influence.

4. If she didn't turn into a freaking tree! Agh, I was crying so hard when that happened. In fact, I think I finally realized I'm a very easy crier. I adore Eros and Psyche. I know she meant well when she shot that arrow at Apollo. She was naively hoping to uncover his true self in front of Artemis, but she ended up making Daphne see the darkness of his heart instead. And Daphne, precious Daphne, I'm proud she tried to run away and tell everyone what he did to Persephone. I have no idea how long her hibernation will last; she can't change back without Demeter's help, but at least she survived Apollo's wrath and didn't die, which would've destroyed me far worse than this. And I'm already destroyed, mind you. My eyes all are puffy and sore.

I have such problems with this piece of work.
I tried to give it a fair chance like I did get this far into it.
I just can not get past some problematic aspects of this WEBTOON comic.

1. The fact that Persephone acts like she’s 13 and is drawn like she’s 12. And the fact Hades acts like her dad gives such incredible ick.

2. It doesn’t follow the original myths at all. Which granted is very much a me problem because of my interest in Greek mythology. Because in the original Greek myths Hades kidnaps Persephone and takes her to the underworld to be his bride against her will. Which is not a fun story but it is the accurate myth. Persephone is very much a prisoner of the underworld belonging to Hades.

3. The story goes absolutely nowhere and runs around in circles and takes forever to get to the point. It’s repetitive and annoying.

Anyway that’s my two cents. Thanks for coming to my review.

I love this series with EVERY fiber of my being and with EVERY ounce of my heart.

But…

This volume might just have to go down as my least favorite.

Reasons:
✨Several storylines are being dragged out for no good reason and are becoming too difficult to tolerate.
✨Zeus sucks times 1o (and just keeps getting worse).
✨Persephone is still living rent free inside Apollo’s mind after she told him, his friends, and family members that she doesn’t like him (this storyline it the MOST toxic thing about this series and it’s time to wrap it up)!!!
✨A LOT of these characters are starting to suck!!! They are horrible beings doing horrible things and it is becoming insufferable.
✨The petty gossip is getting recycled and borderline boring.
✨This slow burn romance between Persephone and Hades need to end.
✨And my gods. COULD SOMEONE JUST TELL ARTEMIS ABOUT APOLLO, PLEASE?!?! The girl whined this whole book about knowing something being “off” between him and Persephone but not being able to figure it out!!!

Seriously, we are 7 volumes in and the same things just keep happening on repeat…

TIME TO MAKE SOME CHANGES!!! LIKE TODAY!!!

I read this for free on webtoons but I will end up buying a physical copy because the art is gorgeous. 😍

Honestly these ratings are purely based on vibes. I'm writing these reviews after finishing the entire webtoon so it's hard to pinpoint specific plots and I noted the ratings whilst reading. The story is so good I love the modern spins and twists on greek mythology and their story.

I'm currently in chapter 233 and oh boy! I love this series.
The art keeps getting better, the writing is more concise (there's still at least one typo per chapter) and the characters are growing strong.

Vol.7 -> Chapter 153-179

I'm here for ALL THE COURT DRAMA LOL.

however that being said, I just feel like this series constantly forgets that there's another big plot that keeps getting pushed aside. I feel like the aftermath of what Apollo did to Persephone was never properly addressed. While it’s true some victims never press charges, Artemis knows something’s up now and considering she is his twin, a lot of readers are frustrated with lack of reaction from her. Out of the ones that do know, I feel like we need more of a reaction or we need Apollo to be held accountable for his actions.

Speaking of Apollo, in the pilot he was just a bad boyfriend iirc. I have no right to tell someone how to write their WT but to turn a god who was a symbol of the arts and medicine into what RS did left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s just my own petty, personal opinion. Sure, Apollo was problematic in legends too but I feel like he could have been left as just a bad boyfriend. Apollo is just not a great villain to be honest in the begining and I'm

Honestly, I'm just thinking that if we include something like sexual assault in a book, we should either avoid making it a central plot point or handle it with greater sensitivity and understanding if we do choose to include it. In this case, it feels like the author could have done better or perhaps omitted the sexual assault altogether. As I mentioned before, it seems to be there primarily to create conflict for Persephone, which feels inadequate or not properly issued.

this is my second time reading this and ofc i am paying attention to other details but the reason LO gets so much Hate is because it's SO POPULAR, literally the N°1 webtoon of the app. The more light you get, the more hate you'll get for your flaws, that's just how things have always worked even before the Internet.

I can’t believe there’s only one more volume😭 I love this series so much. I have a lot of fun in this world and getting to see these characters that are familiar, but also Rachel makes them completely their own💙 I can’t wait for 2025 solely for the fact I will get to grab my final volume of this series and complete it☺️
