"IF EYES COULD EAT, LORE OLYMPUS WOULD BE A FEAST." —NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW
“Believe me when I tell you, you are not tethered to your abuser.”
another installment in this beautiful graphic novel series that has very much taken the book community (and the rest of the world) by storm. we follow hades and persephone navigating their relationship, and their own mental health, in a very unforgiving world.
i feel like i can’t say too much with this being volume seven (which feels insane to type btw), but the bright shining light in this installment was seeing persephone going to therapy and talking about her sa. it was really beautiful, and i know it will help a lot of readers of this beloved series, and i just loved it completely.
oh, and seeing hermes and persephone’s past? adored every panel! i also really enjoyed learning more about zeus, poseidon, and hades pasts and the things they were forced to do, too. but besides these things…well, this might not have been my favorite volume, but i absolutely cannot wait for what will come next.
cws from the author at the start of this book: physical + mental abuse, sexual trauma, + toxic relationships
other tw/cw i wrote down: nightmares, threat of sa, cheating in past, talk of infertility, vomit, parents talking about their child’s body, courtroom/trial setting
♡ buddy reading this series with Penny ✰ read for free on webtoon
that ending was a solid cliffhanger & the bonus chapter was super cute! (I have the b&n edition; idk if it's in the regular one.) I will forever love the art & vibes of this series despite it feeling messy and discombobulated at times
Reading a "Lore Olympus" volume is always so much fun! This is definitely one of my favorite comics/webtoons!
This volume has a lot of chapters that allow the narrative to progress, along with the absolutely hilarious scenes, the sweet moments, the full on heartbreak... and the myth, characteristics that Rachel Smythe has made familiar for her readers. As always, I cannot wait to know what happens next, especially as this volume ends up in a major cliffhanger!
I love the drama, the gossip and the overall craziness of Olympus and its' many characters. But I also love to read the dynamics the author has created, the way myth and legend is incorporated in a story with modern shapes, the way relationships and personalities develop over time. In this volume, I specifically love reading Persephone's scenes with Chiron, in therapy; those were extremely well done, in my opinion.
An added bonus is the fact that every single frame has the most gorgeous art; the colors are gorgeous, the clothes and hair of every character, the scenery... it is all so beautiful and it truly enhances the reading experience!
If you haven't read this webtoon before, I truly recommend it, while reminding everyone that while this is an overall fun story, it still deals with serious themes than can be triggering (but the volumes do include specific trigger warnings)! Having that said, I can't wait to see what happens next! 🩷🩵
P.S. Hermes is a whole mood this entire volume lol 🤣
Kore walking around with Hades' smallest dog tucked into her fur coat is just inexplicably hilarious and one of the reasons why these books continue to delight me. It's the little details in the deceptively simple style. It's the way she's captured the natures of the gods, the gist of their big stories, and turned them into this really gripping, rather soapy, story.
Volume 7 was a lot of fun to read. Majority of the book was about the trial of Persephone & her mother Demeter. Zeus acted as the judge & Hades acted as the defending lawyer for Persephone. The storyline was as usual very easy to follow & no doubt it was an entertaining page turner… Looking forward to read Volume 8.
Court drama in Olympus Pre-court red carpet drama Hades' rage-driven true form Mother-daughter drama Moustache Hades non-drama with Nyx What more do you want?این ولوم خیلی مدیون هرمیس و آرکش بود. پسر خوبیه. امیدوارم بتونه کاری کنه که رستگار شه.
I have such problems with this piece of work. I tried to give it a fair chance like I did get this far into it. I just can not get past some problematic aspects of this WEBTOON comic.
1. The fact that Persephone acts like she’s 13 and is drawn like she’s 12. And the fact Hades acts like her dad gives such incredible ick.
2. It doesn’t follow the original myths at all. Which granted is very much a me problem because of my interest in Greek mythology. Because in the original Greek myths Hades kidnaps Persephone and takes her to the underworld to be his bride against her will. Which is not a fun story but it is the accurate myth. Persephone is very much a prisoner of the underworld belonging to Hades.
3. The story goes absolutely nowhere and runs around in circles and takes forever to get to the point. It’s repetitive and annoying.
Anyway that’s my two cents. Thanks for coming to my review.
I love this series with EVERY fiber of my being and with EVERY ounce of my heart.
But…
This volume might just have to go down as my least favorite.
Reasons: ✨Several storylines are being dragged out for no good reason and are becoming too difficult to tolerate. ✨Zeus sucks times 1o (and just keeps getting worse). ✨Persephone is still living rent free inside Apollo’s mind after she told him, his friends, and family members that she doesn’t like him (this storyline it the MOST toxic thing about this series and it’s time to wrap it up)!!! ✨A LOT of these characters are starting to suck!!! They are horrible beings doing horrible things and it is becoming insufferable. ✨The petty gossip is getting recycled and borderline boring. ✨This slow burn romance between Persephone and Hades need to end. ✨And my gods. COULD SOMEONE JUST TELL ARTEMIS ABOUT APOLLO, PLEASE?!?! The girl whined this whole book about knowing something being “off” between him and Persephone but not being able to figure it out!!!
Seriously, we are 7 volumes in and the same things just keep happening on repeat…
TIME TO MAKE SOME CHANGES!!! LIKE TODAY!!! ~~~~~~~ ***Pre-Read:*** Aaahhh. This will be arriving in my arms come Saturday!!! Oooh how I need this so much!!! 🥰🥰🥰!!!
I read this for free on webtoons but I will end up buying a physical copy because the art is gorgeous. 😍
Honestly these ratings are purely based on vibes. I'm writing these reviews after finishing the entire webtoon so it's hard to pinpoint specific plots and I noted the ratings whilst reading. The story is so good I love the modern spins and twists on greek mythology and their story.
I'm currently in chapter 233 and oh boy! I love this series. The art keeps getting better, the writing is more concise (there's still at least one typo per chapter) and the characters are growing strong.
It was cute as usual, I simply liked it a bit less than the previous volume🫶 Hades and Persephone are so so adorable together, I would love for their relationship to develop moreeee. The art style never disappoints‼️
however that being said, I just feel like this series constantly forgets that there's another big plot that keeps getting pushed aside. I feel like the aftermath of what Apollo did to Persephone was never properly addressed. While it’s true some victims never press charges, Artemis knows something’s up now and considering she is his twin, a lot of readers are frustrated with lack of reaction from her. Out of the ones that do know, I feel like we need more of a reaction or we need Apollo to be held accountable for his actions.
Speaking of Apollo, in the pilot he was just a bad boyfriend iirc. I have no right to tell someone how to write their WT but to turn a god who was a symbol of the arts and medicine into what RS did left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s just my own petty, personal opinion. Sure, Apollo was problematic in legends too but I feel like he could have been left as just a bad boyfriend. Apollo is just not a great villain to be honest in the begining and I'm
Honestly, I'm just thinking that if we include something like sexual assault in a book, we should either avoid making it a central plot point or handle it with greater sensitivity and understanding if we do choose to include it. In this case, it feels like the author could have done better or perhaps omitted the sexual assault altogether. As I mentioned before, it seems to be there primarily to create conflict for Persephone, which feels inadequate or not properly issued.
this is my second time reading this and ofc i am paying attention to other details but the reason LO gets so much Hate is because it's SO POPULAR, literally the N°1 webtoon of the app. The more light you get, the more hate you'll get for your flaws, that's just how things have always worked even before the Internet.
I can’t believe there’s only one more volume😭 I love this series so much. I have a lot of fun in this world and getting to see these characters that are familiar, but also Rachel makes them completely their own💙 I can’t wait for 2025 solely for the fact I will get to grab my final volume of this series and complete it☺️
I’m still loving the art and enjoying the overall story, but the episodes included in this volume felt slower moving than some others. It didn’t feel like much happened in this volume, but it seems like next volume might be better based on where this one ended.
