Years ago, I made a splash during a charity fashion show where an agent “discovered” me. My work led to the glitzy world of haute couture, perfume ads, and more. I was living my best life, traveled the world, and the only thing that would have made it better was if my twin would have come along for the ride.
My other half. My best friend. Then one day, she disappeared.
No one believed me, but I couldn’t escape that sinking feeling of something being terribly wrong. Then the nightmare came for me. I woke up in the back of a truck.
Chained.
Taken.
Moved from one location to another, I could only struggle to survive amidst the suffocating fear. Then just as abruptly, salvation came from the most unexpected place. Salvation and retribution.
I wanted my sister back.
But my saviors had no intention of letting me go—not when someone continued to hunt me.
Was it me they were hunting? Or my sister?
I didn’t care what I had to do, but to find her, I would make the world burn. These men were going to help me, they just didn’t know it yet.
* Please note this is a reverse harem and the author suggests you always read the foreword in their books. Contains some dark elements including trauma in the present day and the past, as well as mature situations, and is definitely intended for 18+
I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.
I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.
After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.
Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.
Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.
One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.
I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!
3.75⭐️ All right, I’m gonna try to just share my unfiltered chaotic thoughts about this book. Let’s start off by saying I loved this plot and these men had so much swag and big dick energy, It’s not even funny. Breaking necks like it was absolutely NOTHING. Every single move they made, and every single thing they did was so effortlessly hot.
With that being said, it was really hard for me to form an attraction to a man named lunchbox (and alphabet) while I understand they’re military nicknames I just wish we would’ve went in a different direction. I could even get behind voodoo and bones, even though they’re not my favorite, it was honestly kind of distracting.
Another thing I found super distracting was the amount of times we talked about Grace and her eating habits. It felt like every couple of pages we were talking about her restricted diet and her calories and her guilt for eating certain foods. Maybe this is going to be something with her character development in later books, but it was honestly driving me fucking insane and I know this may not bother some people, but it definitely bothered me. Like Miss girl you just got kidnapped and SA and you’re worried about the calorie count in your breakfast burrito?????
Even though there were little things about this book that got under my skin, I will say as a whole I did really enjoy the story and I will be for sure Continuing the series. I think once these relationships get a little deeper and she starts to form a connection/ gets her back cracked by all these men I’ll really be invested. I mean it’s got a few of my favorite things why choose, a little Stockholm syndrome and call me cliché, but I just love when the MMC‘s save and protect the FMC🤭 even though Grace is no damsel in distress👏🏻
Manifesting that we get real names from these MMC’s in book 2🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Here I thought Knot all is Forgiven by Holly Monroe had some terrible nicknames, but it was like Long said "no wait, I can top all of those with terribleness of my own." The four guys have real names, but they never say them so they go exclusively by their call signs. THEN, that's not good enough. The FMC has to give some of them an additional nickname. Our FMC even has some stupid nicknames: Firecracker: 53 times said Gracie: 63 times said Pixie: 18 times said Miss Black: 9 times said Pet: around 10 or so times
Ya know, the FMC was abducted and raped by someone and like, she doesn't suffer from any PTSD? Nightmares? She is a glorified doll, being manhandled and manipulated and controlled in every facet of her life, including from her rescuers. I'm so over authors that chose to write characters that have terrible things happen to them, and when the men (or a man) in their life rescues them, they manhandle her or flirt with her. The girl was literally trafficked, and the one guy starts flirting with her WHILE SHE STILL HAD THE RAPISTS RELEASE ON HER. And as usual in a RH, we have a guy who hates the FMC for [insert dumb reason here]. It's so overdone. For such a seasoned author as Long, there were many comma splices, formatting errors, plot errors and the FMC being a TSTL person. Had hoped for so much better.
As a massive (and I do mean massive) fan of Blake Blessing’s Bastard Brothers of Carnage series, the moment I found out Heather Long had written a companion series, I ran to download it. Burn follows Grace Black—twin sister to Amorette, the FMC from Bastard Brothers of Carnage.
After being kidnapped and trapped in a human trafficking ring, Grace finds herself caught in the middle of a shootout when a team of ex-military operatives storms in to take down the operation. Rescued but far from safe, she quickly realizes that whoever orchestrated her abduction isn’t finished with her yet. With danger closing in, the highly trained special ops team decides she’s safest under their protection—at least until they uncover who’s behind it all. But with her twin sister also missing, Grace isn’t about to sit back and play the damsel. She’ll do whatever it takes to bring her sister home.
This book is fast-paced, action-packed, and kept me on edge from start to finish. While it’s on the lighter side when it comes to spice, when those moments hit… they hit. Overall, this was a strong start to the series, and even days after finishing, I still can’t stop thinking about it.
Absolutely incredible! So gripping, the blood brother series starts off with Grace getting kidnapped while looking for her sister then the brothers come into the story... no one knows why Grace was kidnapped but they plan to find out. The relationships between Grace and all the brothers is completely different, giving different vibes for each which keeps it interesting. Grace will stop at nothing to find her sister and she will take every advantage she has including the brothers. I can't wait to see how this series develops and how things change between each of the characters! I also can't wait for the spice to get even spicer🌶😅 That ending as well🤯🤯 I need the 2nd one right now!!😅 One of my favourite Arcs of the year!!🫶🔥 Check your triggers 🩷
Thank you for the Arc!! Amazing start to the series, I will be continuing ❤️
4.6 stars. This had me totally immersed from the jump. I’m becoming a pretty big fan of this author’s writing style. I really like how they write action scenes, they’re normally boring for me in a way that makes me start skimming just to get through them. Absolutely no skimming here. I’ve come out of the book stiff from being still for too long, that’s how locked in I’ve been.😂
*Reverse Harem *Contemporary *Multi-1st-PoV *Kidnapping *Abused FMC *Band of Brothers *Established Harem (4) *Mid Burn *1/5 Hunters and the Hunted… A captivating first book in this new series from Heather! The story follows Grace Black a renowned model who’s been captured and lands in a seggs 🚦 ring (do check your triggers) however as the story moves on you begin to realise there may be more to her capture than just an opportunistic moment 😮the little hints dropped throughout along with further attempts definitely feels like it’s building to something more! Thankfully the four men who “protect” her are more than capable….although some are not very peopley 😅 creating some interesting dynamics between the groups, although there’s definitely sparks flying 🔥 Graceaybe pixie like but she sure has a feisty bite she’s. T afraid to use 😆 If you have read Blake Blessings series BBrothers of Carnage then Grace is Amorettes twin - but this is completely stand apart from that series- there’s also some eater eggs to Heathers other series in this wider world 😀 a great start and really looking forward to where this is going!
OMG! The story began with a fast pace and maintained its pace throughout. Grace, a renowned supermodel, demonstrated remarkable courage and spunk by fighting back against her kidnappers. After Grace’s rescue, she’s filled with worry because she hasn’t heard or spoken to her sister Amorette since her kidnapping. Her four rescuers—Voodoo, Alphabet, Lunchbox, and Bones—former soldiers turned mercenaries—discover that Grace is more than just a supermodel. Amidst their mission to find Amorette, protect Grace, and fulfill their job assignments, there was espionage, secret operations, mafia, captivating banner and enticing steamy hot moments. Oh wow, this story had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page and came to a screeching halt at the end. An extraordinary story!
Thank you Heather Long and PeachyKeenas for a free advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
“Burn” was an awesome start to a new contemporary why choose series, and the best way to end one year and start a new year of reading wonderful books. The suspense, the men, the tension between these characters, the mysteries, all the lingering questions, … It creates the perfect mix to get lost in the story and to keep turning pages until that inevitable cliffhanger.
There is a lot happening in this first book, but looking back, it’s also clear there is a whole lot left to unpack. We’re only scratching the surface in this first book, and I’m hoping the next four books will slowly peel back all the other layers to give the answers I’m hoping for. I really need more background on the guys, because I’m fascinated and can’t wait to see them grow closer. Although I do already love the vibe between Grace and Voodoo right now.
I absolutely can’t wait for more books of this series in 2015!
Wow what can I say this book had me hooked! It’s the first in the new series. Grace is a well-known model, she has a twin sister who’s is a lawyer. They planned a trip away, but her sister is a no-show. Upon going to look for her Grace is taken! Saved? She meets 4 big, hulking men Lunchbox, bones, Voodoo and Alphabet! Are they helping? Are they another abductor? Are they keeping her safe? Oh I need book 2 this was a big cliffhanger! 5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2/5🔥🔥 ***read TW***
The way the MMC’s just don’t take like seriously despite the seriousness of their environment. They’re THAT good at their job, they can afford some free spirited humour and I love when books can make me laugh!
It was a little choppy in places but generally was a nice fast paced enjoyable time! I can’t wait to see where the series goes.
I also believe this is a spin off of another series of heathers? I’m definitely interested in going back to have a look at that!
Burn is the first book in Heather Long’s newest series BLOOD Brothers. We’ve sorta met the guys before in one of Heather Long’s other series but now we get to know all about them. Grace is also sorta kinda introduced by name only in a different series than the one we saw the guys’ names in.
3.5 ⭐️ loved all the characters and how smart the fmc is. Unique plot so it was fun to read even though it is slow. At the end of the book I wanted more, but I also felt like not much happened. The nicknames are a distracting. If I was the author’s editor I would have advised against using those… and add more development with Gracie and Voodoo or really any of the men 🫠
Wow this book was amazing. Such a great start to a new series. Grace was amazing and I cant wait to see how she keeps the boys on thier toes while they continue their work. That ending makes you want to throw your book. I really can't wait for the next book to see what happens next.
The author focuses on character development and plot in book one. Would have liked a little more spice as usually why choose books get that going real quick. However I do appreciate the story coming first.
OBSESSED! I've been craving this series since these guys showed up in the Vandals story. Hot mercenaries in romantic suspense that's bound to have twists and turns and a fierce FMC - yes, please! More please! 🥲 And of course the audiobook is 🔥🔥🔥 with duet narration by Brooke Daniels and Noel Harrison.
I'm sorry, but what are these nicknames? They took me out of this story constantly... I just can't listen to a story where someone is nicknamed 'Lunchbox.'
Soooo good. Man Heather is in her element with this book. The characters are so awesome. I love the story development. The book keeps you on your toes and keeps us guess. The by play between Grace and the guys is great too. Some humor rounds things out, but doesn’t break the tension.
I loved Blake Blessings Cardinal Sin series, and all the way through, I was dying to know what happened to Amorette's sister, and now I finally get my hands on Grace's story! I thoroughly enjoyed the book, bones better redeem himself, though! I'm looking forward to April for book two.
I already am in love with all the guys, even the standoffish Bones! Gracie is one hell of a character. She’s smart, knows what she wants and is determined to fight, survive and find her sister. The ending was quite the slap in the face, I need the next book asap!!
I’m so happy Grace is finally getting her story. If you read Blake’s Bastard Brothers of Carnage series we know Grace was mentioned by her sister Amorette. This book gives you all the details you need to get this story going.
Grace finds herself kidnapped but rescued by four guys and Goblin, Alphabet’s dog. These men are a mystery with crazy names and a connection that is starting to form with Grace. I loved this first book with all that happens and can’t wait for more. With this cliffhanger you know this series will keep you hooked for the long run.
What did I just read? I can’t believe it ended like that… This author definitely loves sending me craycray with her cliffhangers. From the beginning, I couldn’t put it down, forgoing sleep, and it was worth the lack of sleep. Not even 10% in and I was completely hooked. This book will be on my mind daily until book 2 is out. I cannot wait. I love Gracie and her snarky self, I love her dry sense of humour and I’ve loved her interactions with the men. Voodoo is doing it for me at the minute but I reckon Bones will end up my favourite. I can’t wait to get to know more about the guys and even Gracie herself. I’m looking forward to seeing their story unfold. Can’t wait for more. Although you don’t have to, I’ve read 82nd Street Vandals and Gracie’s sister’s series, and it’s definitely bumped up my enjoyment of the story, loving the Easter eggs.
This is the start of a brand new series and wow i loved every second of it. Once again it was action-packed and has me desperate for more. I loved Gracie and the guys so much and I can't wait to see where this series goes with them. I especially loved seeing some familiar characters that we have come to love from previous series. I'm so excited for what's to come. Amazing five star read that had me hooked from the very first page.
Witness protection with a group of men, some grumpier than the rest. Very well written book, just very slow and no real time frame. I'm excited to see where this is going and keen to read the books of the characters linked to this series.
RATE: 2.5/5(I'll still leave a 3 tho because it did have potential)
⚠️⚠️SPOILERS AND VERY BLUNT REVIEW
MY OPINION
B..O..R..I..N..G!!
Let’s talk about the FL, Grace, because… girl. She might be the most bland protagonist I’ve ever read. Nothing about her gives—well, anything! No spark, no bite, no real personality. She goes through the entire book being calm in the most chaotic situations, just doing what she’s told to survive. And while that might make sense on paper, it left me feeling like I knew more about her daily schedule than her actual character.
There’s this reel I once saw that said people who had to glow up tend to be more interesting, while those who were born attractive can sometimes be painfully dull because of how much they coasted on privilege. That’s exactly what this felt like. Grace is a model, she’s gorgeous, and yet somehow she’s as emotionally engaging as a cardboard cutout. One of the MLs says something to her and… she just blinks at him.
GIRL, WHAT?
What made it worse? Her sister, who isn’t even the main character—sounded like she would’ve made the better FL in every way. Grace is just there. Getting used. And as messed up as it sounds… that’s literally all that happens. The plot revolves around her being chased by human traffickers, but across all 291 pages and what was basically a 2-hour read, we got zero development. There’s no shown trauma, no inner monologue reflecting fear, no deep discomfort with being touched. Just flatness.
And that phrase she keeps repeating? "It’s just a body." Ugh. It’s dismissive, lacks nuance, and feels completely out of touch, especially in a story that’s centered around exploitation. We get it. She’s a model who’s used to her body being a tool. But at least give us some femme fatale energy. A little seduction. A honey trap moment. Something.
Instead, we get doll behavior. Literally. She feels like one of those teddy bears you can record a voice line in. All she says on repeat is:
“I want to call my sister.” Ma’am… people are actively trying to kidnap you. Where’s the urgency?!
I also have to side-eye the plot logic. She’s being protected by the most elite security group… but why? Outside of her sister’s involvement, there’s no reason given for why they’re risking so much for her. And let’s not forget the “ick” moment when one of the MLs admits he felt like a creep checking her out because she looked sixteen in a certain outfit. 😐 Please.
The MLs themselves? Their names were enough to make me go slightly cross-eyed. The sex scenes gave more Stockholm Syndrome than chemistry. It all felt forced, shallow, and just… goofy.
Look, I could go on all day about what didn’t work for me, but I’ll just leave it at this:
📌 Grace is boring. 📌 The plot is paper thin. 📌 The romance? Nonexistent. 📌 And the "dark" part of this dark romance? Missing in action.
If you like your RH heroines with fire, flaws, and actual agency—this ain’t it.
Maybe there will be more "OOMPH" on the next book, but im not even motivated to continue. It had potential but just fell flat.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I need the next book yesterday please, and thank you!
I’m rereading another series by this author, and the people in this series were brought up, and I didn’t even know this existed until I googled it. I am very disappointed only the first has been released. I only have to wait about a week though.
I will admit I was disappointed this book wasn’t longer. It had a lot of action elements to it that I appreciated, but that took away time where the characters could connect and get to know each other. I just wanted a better read on their personalities I guess. Maybe if I could just skip right on to the next book I wouldn’t have paid as much attention to it. But even if it is a part of a series and I have no doubt it will all come together in the end, this book is still its own entity and it left me wanting more. Not in the sense where I am just utterly captured, but more in the sense of being unsatisfied with what I got.
I have been very curious about the guys from what I have read about them in the vandal series, and I really liked them in that, so that spilled over on to this and automatically upped my rating. I was also curious about Grace after the little pieces we got of her in that same series.
I had a stone weighing me down as I read about what happened to Grace, and I was honestly just relieved it didn’t go on for a long time, cause I have read books where the main character is I literal hell for several hundred pages, and I am not mentally prepared for that right now. I loved how she was a part of so much of the action, and that they don’t just leave her behind. I am also really curious about why she is being hunted down, and by whom. I mean, was it the guy who raped her when she was first trafficked? He seemed like he wanted her specifically, and he had features, like a white eye from being blind, who just screams “main bad guy”. But at the same time, he left her behind eventually when the place was being shot to hell.
I hated Bones. Like, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I will find a reason to warm up to him eventually when he gets his head extracted from his behind, but in this book I merely wanted to punch him. This girl was kidnapped, raped, kidnapped from the kidnappers, shoved in truck with others who were being trafficked, then hunted down brutally after thinking she was safe. He wasn’t cruel per se. But he wasn’t trying to be nice, or even sivil, which honestly pissed me off, cause she didn’t deserve his attitude.
Grace lives the life of luxury as a model, she is good at what she does.
The one thing Grace is looking forward to is spending time with her twin sister Amorette. When Amorette fails to show up and her calls go unanswered, Grace goes in search for her only to find herself in a situation where she never thought she find herself in.
Held captive by men, watching them as they inflict trauma on women, their cries and pleas falling on deaf ears, to survive Grace plays there game, because if she wants to find her sister and stay alive she has no choice.
Then when the place she’s been held at comes under attack is she again taken, only this time to safety. Once Grace has the provisions she needs and the victim’s returned to their families, do the men who saved her, return her to her home, do they come to her rescue again as a group of men attempt to kidnap her for reasons unknown to her.
And here we meet Bones, Lunchbox, Alphabet and Voodoo. A cohesive unit, brothers, family.
Bones is no nonsense, but Lunchbox, Alphabet and Voodoo are witty, the humour and banter helping to keep things real in stressful situations and with Grace she will either test their skills, abilities and resolve or bring them to their knees, because one way or another she will find her sister and they will help her do it.
As they move through different locations, Grace makes the best of the situation she is in. They can’t work out how they’re being tracked until they discover she has tracker imbedded in her, once removed they continue on with their plans. Grace tests their patience and limits like no other, putting herself in unlikely danger, but all she wants is answers and when promises are broken does she take matters into her own hands.
Goblin, there dog, is definitely man’s best friend, he has taken to Grace like fish out of water, but at there current location, in the middle of a mission, something is awry and when Alphabet goes in search of Grace, well the readers will need to jump in to book two to see how it all unfolds.
Can’t wait to see how Bones, Lunchbox, Alphabet and Voodoo’s relationship with Grace develops it’s going to be interesting that’s for sure.
Grace and Voodoo’s smexy time was on point, because this is the start of something bigger to come and I can’t wait for them to all burn for each other.
Highly recommend both the author and the book, now onto book two Lure.

Best way to start the new year. Tropes Triggers. Suspense. Ex military. Model. Found family. Quotes She might be tiny, but she’s feisty.”
Had I merely traded one set of captors for another?
“Firecracker, have I mentioned how much I like your style?”
“Gracie,” I called, buying Lunchbox some time. “Whatcha doing?”“Getting some fresh air,” she retorted in a salty tone that made me grin. “What are you doing?” Bones opened his mouth, but I cut in before he could say whatever remark he had in mind. “Came out for a walk. Wanna go with me and Goblin?”“Sure,” she responded. “Just give me a minute to figure out how to make my way down.”
