C.R. Allen, an Arizona native, balances life as a dad, business professional, and a passionate author. A proud alumnus of Arizona State University, where he completed both his undergraduate and master's degrees, his fascination with storytelling began early, crafting his first screenplay at age 10. Today, he is known for his compelling novels, novellas, and short stories of horror, supernatural thrillers, and historical fiction. Allen's writings stand out for their dark and mysterious narratives that explore sociological, psychological, and technological themes.
I received a free copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only. It took me a while to get into this book but once I did I really enjoyed it. There's hints of mythology throughout but not so much that it takes over the story. Bea is a mostly likeable character and it's interesting to see the story from her perspective. I'd have liked more depth from Cam and Mal since they're in a lot of the story but we don't know much about them. The club is described well and you can really picture the setting and other characters there.
I just finished reading Club Llithium. I found this book engaging from the very start. The first chapter is about a girl who then swiftly disappears from the storyline, and I almost forgot about her. It was interesting to see that being linked to the rest of the novel and how this tied in.
I enjoyed the writing style of this author. This is the first book I've read from CR Allen, and I would definitely read more from him.
I love a mystery/thriller anyway, but this kept me guessing about where it was going throughout, and I enjoyed the links to legends that were referenced throughout. The character development of Bea and Mal was interesting and I enjoyed watching their friendship blossom. I would love a second book!
I received a free copy of this book via Voracious Readers Only.
Thank you so much C.R. Allen for sending me a copy of your book. I really enjoyed this book. Alittle bit of mystery, alittle bit of history, and alittle bit of mythology. Bea was a interesting character. I really wanted her to have a happy ending. I also enjoyed all of them. Cam's dad was a dick in all sense of the word. I would really like to have a sequel to zee what comes of Bea with the stuff she "inherent" at the end of the book.
This was a great read for someone just dipping into the horror genre. Nothing too out there and wild but enough to prickle the skin a bit. The idea of the club is really cool and gives some edgy creepy vibes and I was there for it! Lots of character development, too!
While I may not be cool enough to be admitted entry into “Club Llithium,” it was sure fun guessing what twist and turns this novel would take next! I thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling and juicy horror bits! Definitely give it a read!
I received this e-book for free from 'Voracious readers only' in exchange for an honest review. And let me tell you, I was hooked by the end of the first chapter and finished this book very quickly!
I really enjoyed the supernatural and horror aspects and found the story very compelling and easy to follow.
I found Bea to be a very relatable character and really enjoyed her journey throughout the story. I'd love to know more and I hope that there is a sequel. I'd definitely read it!
Full disclosure I received a free copy of this book from Voracious readers. Excellent book for a breakout novel couple choppy areas that I felt weren’t explained as well and were placed at the end to help tie up loose ends without enough info around how one got to that point (trying to avoid spoilers). Definitely pulls you in and holds onto you I read this book in a little bit over a day as I was really wanting to know what happened. 4.5 stars, Couple minor errors in the book and as a healthcare provider I didn’t think that the physician aspect was very believable.
This book got me back into reading for fun after a ten-year hiatus and I’m so glad that I picked it up! It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and the scenes were beautifully descriptive. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. The character development helped you feel immersed in the story and I’m so excited to see what comes next from the cathedral-turned-club-turned-art gallery.
Club Lithium is a spellbinding book that will keep you enthralled! C.R. Allen's masterful storytelling makes it effortless to lose track of time. When you finally put the book down, the story will linger in your mind, leaving you eager to unravel what's next!
C.R. Allen is a fellow Arizonian, and when he reached out to me via Instagram to offer me a copy of his novel, I gladly accepted. . I would label this novel as a Dark Fantasy with Folk horror elements. The story and choice of creatures/entities was really unique. I became invested in this novel a couple of chapters in and couldn't put it down. . There are so many great characters in this book, and I even found myself laughing at some of the things they said. There is definitely a bit of comedic relief found in these pages. The main female character is very likable, but she's very introverted and is usually locked in her room reading a history book or working on her college thesis. When her college dorm room gets flooded, she has to find a new place to stay- which ends up being off campus with a very wealthy party girl. . Said party girl spends a lot of time at the notoriously hard to get into Club Llithium-an abandoned church. Naturally, the main character ends up spending a lot of time at Club Llithium as well, and eventually ends up falling for the owner (who harbors secrets of his own). . This was such a fun read for me. I enjoyed the folklore involved and there are some pretty gruesome scenes as well. The ending was such a kick in the gut. . I definitely recommend checking this book out if you like Dark Fantasy steeped with mythological creatures.
Club Llithium was an amazing read that walked the line between the thriller and horror genres extremely well. It was scary and terrifying at times, while not descending into senseless gore. Meanwhile, the shock factors as Bea spirals deeper and deeper into the supernatural world building were great.
C.R. Allen masterfully combined ancient legends with a contemporary backdrop, crafting a thought-provoking setting that feels authentic and tangible. The dialogue feels like something real people would say in those situations.
The pacing is fast, but not too fast. The story and action won't leave you in its dust but nor will it lull you to sleep.
Overall, there's a reason this debut novel is rated well. It's a pleasurable read all around that leaves the reader feeling satisfied.
5/5 - A rollercoaster of emotions all the way through. Just when you think you know where the story is going it pivots entirely to places you never imagined it would go. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next, if anything not only from this book series but from the author.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only in return for an honest review.
This Debut novel by C.R Allen is a bundle of so many themes and emotions. It's a mix between Fantasy Thriller and Romance, it has themes about beauty, truth and honesty. It's alot BUT it is all neatly bundled up into a wonderful, captivating and interesting narrative.
The storyline follows it main character Bea closely through her trials and tribulations, tying to juggle completing her thesis, making new friends and finding new love.
There are undertones throughout the whole book that allude to the possibilities of where the story might go, but not for one moment do you ever feel bored or like you know all the answers.
The last few chapters will suck you in even further, before leaving you hanging and hoping for more.
Great novel, go out and grab a copy, you won't be disappointed 👏
Thank you C.R Allen and Voracious Readers Only for the Review Copy 🙌
So, first of all: at least some of the positive reviews for this book were bought. Several people say they received a free copy; another reviewer says the author reached out to them on Instagram. The reason I know these reviews are bought is not only that implicit disclosure some were kind enough to include but also that there is no way that, out of 55 people, only 1 person gave a 2 start review and that none have given a 1 star review. That would be unlikely even for a great book. This is not a great book. I think maybe there's a great book hidden somewhere inside of it, but this is the marble slab rather than the sculpture lurking within. The description is interesting, if sounding a little like the author listened to "Hotel California" on repeat while writing, and the scenes I read when I flipped through it had some potential. But the reason I flipped through it was that by the end of page two, I needed to look for hope that it got better. Better? Maybe. Good enough to risk more of the nonsense I'd seen in those two pages? Unfortunately not. Quote: "[...] the more he described it, the more it rang of exploitation and downright fraud. Not that the legality of it bothered her, she was born in Russia after all." Absolutely bewildering line. I guess that in the world of Club Llithium, Russian people are born with an instinctive disregard for the law. (And then there's that pesky sentence structure; two clauses separated only by a comma rather than a period or semicolon.) Here's what made my eyes roll back into my head and decide to give up: Quote: "She was skinny and short, like all the girls in her ballet group. Her blond hair flowed over her shoulders and stopped just below her collarbone. This, combined with her perfect posture (thanks to years of training from her overbearing mother), gave her a narrow physique that limited much of what she could and couldn't eat." This contributes nothing to the scene other than to emphasize she is so slender and delicate and her date is a terrible pig inhaling a cheeseburger (the horror!). It's irrelevant to the story and entirely for the author's own ideas of women's bodies. An argument could be made that this is to describe the character's self-image but I think we all understand that's far too generous. And again there is the matter of sentence structure, or in this case paragraph structure: how does her *posture* prevent her from eating certain things? How in God's name does her HAIR prevent her from eating certain things? (I keep laughing about that every time I remember it.) It reads like a garbled idea you would find in a preteen's first stories, not a real, respectable book. The book's cover was "created with assistance from AI" and it shows when you actually look at the details. The cover features a crowd of people and if you actually look at the crowd you'll notice odd, stretched limbs, strange postures, and and one or two plain blobs. Telling a friend about this book, because I've been sharing this silliness with all my friends, she suggested the text may also have been "created with assistance from AI" and while I wouldn't go so far as to say the entire thing comes from a large language model, I wouldn't be surprised if parts were prompted. There was potential. It was entirely moved past. The story at the core of this book deserved real passion, real editing, and real beta-reading. I don't think it got any of those, and it's a shame.
Thank you so much to the author C.R. Allen for sending the ebook to me to read in exchange for an honest review.
First things first this book is a hidden gem. How this book hasn't gotten the traction it deserves blows my mind. It pulls towards horror with a supernatural element that is mesmerizing and so eerie you won't want to stop reading it.
This was a book I went into completely blind and I can easily say I was hooked from the very first chapter. This story follows our main character Bernice (Bea), an introverted, driven, quiet girl who's just trying to work on her thesis and find her way in life. She meets Mal who brings her out of her shell and introduces her to Club Lithium where only specific people are allowed in, the theme changes every night, and the drinks are to die for. Bea loved going to Club Lithium until she begins to notice something sinister happening to the people around her, and also to herself.
I adored Bea's character, she's so relatable and I loved watching her bloom into this confident, out spoken woman throughout the book. I really liked the friendships she built with the girls, Adelaide was my favorite out of all of them and Mal always seemed genuine to me and more vulnerable with Bea than anyone else.
I really enjoyed the smaller twists that happened every once in awhile throughout the story. They were carefully placed and spread apart to remind us that we were being lead towards something bigger. The characters and subplots were interesting in themselves and kept you turning the page while you're waiting to be thrown another piece of the puzzle that gave you a glimpse of what was to come.
This is the first book I've read this year where I was so invested I ended up reading the first half in a day. It reminded me of Stephen King's writing in some parts and I loved everything about it from start to finish. I can't say anything about the end, but the last 100 pages left my mind reeling and jaw on the floor. I don't read a lot of horror genre, but this book absolutely deserves more hype and recognition. You have to read this book.
Club Llitium captivated me from the very first page and I can confidently say that this book stands out as a shining star in contemporary fiction. C.R. Allen has crafted a narrative that seamlessly weaves together elements of mystery, suspense, and profound soul searching.
The characters in Club Llitium are vividly portrayed, each with a depth and complexity that adds layers to the overall narrative. The author's keen understanding of human psychology is evident in the rich character development, making it easy for readers to connect with and invest in the fates of the individuals populating the pages. I was particularly drawn to Kyla and would love to see another novel with her as the focus.
The plot is a rollercoaster of emotions, taking unexpected turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats. The author's ability to build and sustain suspense is commendable, making Club Llitium a fascinating read. The narrative is infused with a sense of mystery and intrigue that adds a layer of excitement, making it a compelling page-turner.
The author's writing style is both eloquent and accessible, striking the perfect balance between lyrical beauty and straightforward storytelling. The descriptions are vivid, transporting readers to the atmospheric setting of Club Llitium and immersing them in its world.
Beyond its gripping plot and well-crafted characters, Club Llitium delves into profound themes that linger in the reader's mind long after the final chapter. Themes of identity, redemption, and the complexity of human relationships are explored with a sensitivity that elevates the novel to a thought-provoking work of art.
In conclusion, Club Llitium is a literary gem that deserves the highest praise. C.R. Allen has created a masterpiece that transcends genres, offering readers an unforgettable experience. If you're in search of a book that combines suspense, rich character development, and profound themes, Club Llitium is a must-read. It's a five-star journey into the depths of storytelling brilliance that has left me thirsty for a sequel.
As someone who usually steers clear of the horror genre, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I adored "Club Llithium." This book is an unexpected gem that not only captivated me but also kept me glued to its pages, especially during the exhilarating last third of the book. What makes "Club Llithium" so compelling is its unique blend of supernatural gothic elements and just the right touch of horror. It's not your typical horror story overloaded with gore; instead, it weaves a narrative that is as enchanting as it is thrilling. The author brilliantly crafts a setting that is both mesmerizing and eerie, making the club itself feel like a character. As Bea becomes more intwined with the club's owner Cam, I found myself equally entranced and anxious to uncover the truth. The changing themes of the club and the richly described atmosphere make for an immersive reading experience. One of the book's strengths is its pacing. The build-up is gradual, creating a sense of foreboding that is palpable but not overwhelming. And when the story hits its stride in the final 150 pages, it's impossible to put down. I was completely absorbed, eager to see how the pieces of the puzzle would fit together. The ending is another highlight. It's satisfying and well-crafted, tying up loose ends in a way that feels natural and rewarding. The author has done an exceptional job of concluding the story while leaving a lasting impression. "Club Llithium" is a testament to the author's skill in creating a gripping tale that appeals to both horror enthusiasts and those, like me, who are usually hesitant about the genre. It's a book that demonstrates how horror can be both enthralling and tasteful, making it a perfect read for almost anyone.
"Club Llithium" by CR Allen is a modern and captivating novel that skillfully blends a contemporary style with legends, lore, and supernatural elements. Allen strikes the perfect balance of relatable, believable, and the unknown, creating a unique and engaging reading experience.
The characters are rich in development and complexity, which fosters a connection with the reader with even the most high-class and untouchable personas.
CR Allen's writing style is smooth and sophisticated. He avoids cramming unnecessary vocabulary down the reader's throat, ensuring a seamless flow and unique charm that is accessible to a wide audience.
The story reads quickly; I was unable to put the book down. It is well-paced, keeping the momentum going and maintaining the reader's interest from start to finish.
The ending manages to address the concerns raised throughout the story without resorting to a cliché "happy ending" that ties everything up neatly with a bow. Instead, the conclusion is satisfying and well-crafted, offering resolution without sacrificing the authenticity of the novel.
In summary, "Club Llithium" by CR Allen is a modern and enchanting novel that seamlessly weaves together supernatural elements with relatable characters and modern-day struggles. With its smooth writing, emotional depth, quick pacing, and a satisfying yet non-cliché ending, this book is a compelling and enjoyable read for those seeking a blend of contemporary and supernatural fiction.
I picked this up on a whim because the cover caught my eye and the premise sounded like something I'd seen done a hundred times before mysterious nightclub, missing girls, girl gets pulled into dangerous world. I was ready to be underwhelmed.
I was NOT underwhelmed.
Bea is the kind of protagonist I actually root for. She's not trying to be a hero, she's just trying to survive grad school and a housing crisis, and somehow ends up in the middle of something so much bigger than herself. Her reluctance felt real. Her slowly losing herself to the allure of Club Llithium felt real. That's the thing about this book - Allen writes the seduction of that place so well that you almost understand why everyone keeps going back even when the warning signs are screaming at them.
And Cam. I have thoughts about Cam that I cannot put into words without spoiling everything so I'll just say... the slow burn of figuring out what exactly he is kept me reading past midnight three nights in a row.
The gothic atmosphere is thick in the best way. That abandoned church setting does something to you. It felt grimy and glamorous at the same time and I don't know how that's possible but here we are.
My only complaint? I wanted MORE. The ending left me genuinely shaken and I need people to read this so I have someone to talk to about it.
If you like your horror atmospheric and your mysteries layered, just read it.
In the book club lithium by CR Allen we learn about a club most should steer clear from although the summary gives a good idea of what the books about it in no way prepares you for the great read this book is. I love that the last man standing it’s not a man at all and it ended with the potential for another book. I thought the The book is a great one for anyone who loves vampire type paranormal stories when getting the book I just knew it was horror and I loved it not gonna lie though when the first girl the ballerina Aliana danced with Kam I didn’t feel so bad for her at all she really was a b****, I would’ve liked it better however had he danced with her date. Also B’s dissertation for Professor Mikkelson sounded like something I would read and I am so for real. I love this book and thought B and Mal were great characters I also thought Harper was a snake not as poisonous as Kam but still a snake mr. Allen has definitely gained a new fan in me and I cannot wait to see what else he’s written. This is a great book and one I definitely recommend if you love good horror with a solid plot you’ll definitely like this book I certainly did. I received this book from the author via Varacious reader‘s only but I am leaving this review totally voluntarily.
Did not see that coming.... When was the last time you read a book and thought, wow, I had a hunch but was still stunned! Club Llithium had a few dark turns that struck major chords. As a debut novel for CR Allen, what I found remarkable were the detailed descriptions, I often felt like I was in the location, sitting at the table, part of the story. He really treaded heavily on the suspension of disbelief and achieved it through his credible and likable lead characters. The star characters are interesting but mysterious; you devour the book trying to learn more. I honestly couldn't put the book down.
The horror genre isn’t usually my genre, but I was recommended this book and it did NOT disappoint! For me, the two most important things in a book are the characters and storyline. CR Allen beautifully built up the characters of Club Llithium, and at the end I felt like I wasn’t ready to leave them behind despite him wrapping up their story so well. When I wasn’t reading I was thinking of the characters and where their story would go. This book would make an amazing movie. I loved everything about this book, you will not be disappointed with this purchase!
"Club Lithium" is a rollercoaster ride through science fiction, horror, and history, offering a fast-paced and engaging read. Seamlessly blending genres, the author delivers a gripping narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. With its easy-to-digest prose and compelling storyline, "Club Lithium" is sure to satisfy fans of multiple genres. Whether you're a sci-fi enthusiast, a horror buff, or a history aficionado, this book has something to offer for everyone. Prepare to be captivated from start to finish, which was only 2 days for me!
Received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It’s not my traditional genre of book, I tend to avoid books that are too far into horror, but it was an enjoyable read. Took a little while to get into it, but once it picked up I was hooked. The references to mythology was a nice touch, though might have missed some context if you didn’t have knowledge of it. The pacing jumped around - there were some parts I wanted to move faster, and others where I wanted more details but it sped along. Overall, really enjoyable book!
Everything that Bea goes through is astounding. In addition, the character development, plot twists and pictures painted in my head will forever be glued inside my head. Excited to see what he does next! Absolutely spellbinding for a horror novel.
FANTASTIC READ!!the plot, the character development, the pacing, the suspense, the life or death danger?!?! It has it all and it's all done incredibly well!! And that's not even including the masterful depiction of the secret society!!! So so good!! You WILL NOT be able to put this book down!!
